I never had a dog before, grew up around cats for thirty years of my life. We have had our rescue doxie for two years now, and she is the most awesome little girl, I can’t believe how much I love her, she is such a loving doggy. I have to say, the first time she started humping a blanket when she was excited after play...confused the hell out of me, I laughed and thought she was gender confused. My friend didn’t seem fazed at all, she told me ‘they do that’ laughing at me. I googled it as well as other behaviours I hadn’t seen yet. 🤣 I am grateful she does not eat poo though💩well, I haven’t seen it... Just randomly found your videos and SO happy I did, so helpful. Thank you! and happy new year.
Quite right about the pronunciation 👍🏻. The name is German origin, dachs = badger. hund = dog or hound. Pronounced ‘dax unt’. Thanks Lennie for your informative videos. We had dachsunds many many years ago, and now seriously thinking of getting a baby sausage again! I’m in southeast France and not many breeders around here. But I’m doing serious research 😉
Upon reading up on the poop eating problem I read a small bit about feeding your dog some pineapple. It seems pineapple has an enzyme that can stop the propensity for poop eating. Worked for my guy!
Really loving you're videos. Long or short, all very informative and entertaining. We now have 5 sausages so catching up with you. Lol. Perhaps our paths will cross one day as we live in Somerset and do the daxy walks now and again. ☺
You’re so cute 💜 I’ve never watched but I have a 5 month old mini doxie and was curious about what you had to say. Thank you so much! You covered a lot of things that nobody else has a video of.
Great information on the Doxi. I love your accent and especially the way you use words to describe something, you know what I mean and you term it in nice terms. I appreciate it myself LOL Thank you again. I am still researching mini long hair Doxi. I live in the USA
I dog sat a male and he would eat other dogs poo😱 I’m getting a female teacup dachshund and found both male and female videos of extremely useful. This breed has burrowed into my heart and watching your tiktok clips made me want one even more. So thank you for your videos that you put up, I never expected to laugh while being educated 🙏🏻
Thank you for your videos very helpful. I am a little obsessed with dachshunds lol like my mother was. Had them growing up and thinking of getting a female hopefully one day but I have no idea where to start of how to get one. A lot online I worry might not be reputable sellers and seem overpriced even though I believe dachshunds have risen in popularity over the years. I've heard you should always see the mother🐾
Hi Porsche! Yes always see the mother dog and try to get as much information on both mum and dad dogs as possible. I also always ask for photos of both parents living ‘normal’ lives x
Very helpful super informative video!! Nd yes I already decided I'd be getting a female one in the near future. btw truly love your accent! Love from India💕
So helpful. I have a 6 month old female and I’ve always had male dog so picking up on her season has been causing me so much anxiety. After watching your video I feel a lot more prepared thank you. Could you do a video on reacting as she barks at everyone and everything on walks sometimes I dread them. She pulls on her lead a lot too
I have 6 miniature dachshunds too...4 girls and 2 boys...all shorthairs as it's too hot where I live for longhairs. I have 4 chocolate and tans, 1 chocolate and tan dapple & 1 black and tan - she is the leader of the pack & yes gets grumpy big time before coming into season....my 3 chocolate girls are silent season girls with very little blood or none at all. My boys are big sooks and very submissive with the girls. Love your videos and being open about your dachshunds...it's a nice change to hear down to earth honest talk. Big fan from Australia
Well that made me laugh out loud! Not that I think you are short on ideas, but have you thought about a vid on health issues other than IVDD? early signs of PRA, dysplasia, pyo etc...that people can watch for?
Thanks! We think our puppy is going into season but she hasn’t bled! Wondering if she has a quiet season! She’s very grouchy and needy and smelly but no blood. She’s almost 8 months
Hi! I let Luna go through her first season. I was not prepared for it to last so long. I did have her in nappies. I am so happy I waited to have her spayed, going through a season was completely worth it.
You have some good info on Doxies. I might add that poop eating might decrease a lot if not disappear completely if you feed your dogs a raw diet. I am not talking about a BARF diet or adding any fruits or veggies just 100% raw meaty bones and organs. I have had Dachshunds all my life(I'm 50+) and currently I have three females and all three eat raw meat diets. I have only owned one male and that was 30+ years ago and though I adored that boy I would never own another male, especially an intact male. The poop eating can happen with male or female and might slightly favor the females because when puppies are born for the first few weeks the mother has to keep the "nest" clean so she eats the babies poop and sometimes they just keep doing that. I have a 3 year old black and tan smooth standard that would eat my two other Doxies poo but I had her spayed at 18 months and by the time she was 2 years old she didn't seem to care about eating any poop! Yay me! One other thing I did learn over the years is the more reputable the breeder the less health issues I have had. I had one sweet girl that was poorly bred and she was the only one that had any back issues(IVDD) and she didn't even get those issues until she was 12 or so and lived to be 14. You are absolutely right to keep their weight in check because I think breeding and weight are two of the biggest factors in IVDD. Check into raw feeding as it is the best thing I have ever done for any of my dogs and I have been feeding raw for almost 20 years. Picked it up from a very good breed on the west coast. A good starting point: Rawfed.com
yes lenny! don't worry about your videos being too long, we love your footage! i also watch vlogs from other creators and their contents like, 50 mins! now, being a first time soon to be dog owner, i am doing my homework. due to not wanting to breed my female, does she have to get spayed? does this alter their fur like males and getting them neutered? also how easy is it to travel with dogs, i know you have a few so i'd assume you don't go on trips in the UK much and sleep over night. does it take them a while to adjust to new surroundings? i wouldn't wana cause no extra anxiety etc! xxx
Hey! So actually we go on holidays all the time with all the dogs and usually introduce them to settling into new holiday homes as early as possible, Nemo went on his first holiday at 14 weeks old. We don’t ever go without them to be honest lol. We reach out to dog friendly Airbnb’s and because the dogs are small they almost always say yes :) we also have a great review section on Airbnb because we make an effort to be very tidy which I think helps! I’m going away end of August for my birthday and am definitely going to capture it so people see what it’s like with all 8. I personally don’t spay my dogs unless necessary, but it’s worth going to the breed council website and researching before the decision x sites.google.com/site/ukdachshundhealthreport/dachshund-health-resources/welfare/should-i-spay-or-neuter-my-dachshund.
It is a most natural things, and even it is not the appetising but is just natural thing and nothing disgusting, and thank you to informe us raw as it is. It is important that people knows the reality of what they going for. At least they warned. I thinking to have a Dachshund and I am very thankfull to you to not put little fluf and cloud about what is is as it is. Thank
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 🤣 this was so amusing. I do agree 100% girls are better 🤫 dont tell me 1 and only boy that . Its ok me and my dogs have the same thing just can't shut up
With the poop eating dogs, one reason it might happen is that the dogs who have done the poop are eating too quickly and not processing all the nutrients and therefore the smells they put off are still appealing to dogs! I’m not sure how it relates to being female specific so I could be wrong entirely, but I do know that fast eating can sometimes be a problem. Many have found that if you employ methods to slow down dogs as they eat food then the poop eating also stops. Hope this helps!
My dogs all eat slow! There’s a lot of wives tails over poop eating. I think because people are embarrassed by it :) a lot of the time it’s just because they like the flavour 🤣🤣
I would also add not to worry about the length of your videos. I follow a very diverse selection of topics/people on TH-cam, some of them regularly put out an hour or 2 hours of content, which I watch... If the subject matter is of interest to me (& I don't bother with any that isn't) then I don't consider the length of the videos but will watch it, bit by bit if necessary. I don't watch much TV because I rarely find anything that will hold my attention, turning instead to TH-cam as there are many hours of worthwhile material on here to watch & learn from. Regarding this video & having owned female dogs in the past I didn't learn anything to deter my quest for a girl, it just validated it... 😃 I would be very interested in the "Crate Training" video & would be happy to hear your tips on regular grooming/bathing (or not) even for the short-haired variety as well as the trimming of BLACK claws... I regularly trim my cats' nails, they have white claws so the quick is easily visible but I'm nervous about black claws so would be interested if you use a Dremal or just clippers, for example? And just one other thing... I am rather OCD with my house, I have the time to clean it & I do, I like it kept up-to-date as clutter & mess stresses me out - everything has a place & is in that place (most of the time)... And yet I'll happily encourage my grandchildren to play (I had my eldest 2 grandchildren actually live with me for 2 years) & don't mind their chaos, in fact, I often encourage it!! I'm the same with my animals. I would also use "season coverings" (this is sensible & practical) then just clean up after them. I tend to look at any "mess" my animals make as being ok because they're family. With a dog, I'd know my dog was healthy, that she had a good diet & that any mess was therefore just a natural part of owning that dog. It's always been my experience that the vast majority of animals have a good standard of cleanliness if encouraged to follow routines that allow for their natural behaviours in a place & time of your choosing... Like you, I love my animals unconditionally, they *are* my babies (although I don't baby them) & whatever comes with them I tend to accept as natural - just as they have to accept whatever comes with us!! Thanks again for an informative video. 😊
PaganღHeart lots of amazing questions there! I could definitely do a video on DIY grooming at home and what we use and also how we do black nails as all of mine minus one have black nails. Once again so grateful for your comment and extra topics!!! 💜
I have one female, luna, she doesn't eat much for days and then when the bleeding stops she eats like crazy, I call it dog pms, when she gets her cycle
Thank you for both amazing videos! I currently have one male chiweenie who is unaltered and I have been considering breeding him. I found both videos highly informative and I appreciate them very much.
Please do not breed a mutt dog. Breeding should only be done to advance pure breeds and only by professionals who know what they are doing. We do not need more mutts; there are too many in shelters being slaughtered every day.
@@beckyklepper315 Yes, I know that the US gave them a fancy name: "Designer" dogs...to sell mutt puppies for a lot of money and rip off people who buy into fancy titles. There are "designer" dogs in shelters (IE the offspring of a male this and a female that). None of them are recognised breeds. I am sorry you got lied to and swindled. Also not trying to be mean; but "designer" dogs are just mutts. And we have too many mutts being slaughtered in shelters.
Hi, I’m getting an mini female doxie this year, about how long (days, weeks, etc) does their season last? This video was SUPER helpful as this will be my first female dog and doxie. Thank you : )
Good day, we will be getting a new female puppy in the next 4 weeks. This will be our 2nd Dachshund. My question is at what age can we have her spayed. Thank you I enjoy you page very much.
Hey! Mind if I ask, I'm thinking of getting a dachshund in the future, and I was wondering does spaying a female get rid of periods and phantom pregnancies completely? Also, when is the right time to spay a dog? Thanks in advance :)
Hey! Yes it gets rid of phantoms and season completely 100%!! With dachshunds they don’t recommend spaying until after they’re 18 months old due to increased risk of IVDD. If you pop on my how to reduce the risk of IVDD video I explain more :) x
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 hey just wondering if you could share the link where it is stated that waiting until 18 months is recommend? Is it something breeders recommend or is it documented in veterinary literature? Typically waiting until after their first heat will lead to increased risk of cancer. No hate just wondering if it was written by someone in the veterinary field. :)
I had my female spayed at 6 mos. She developed a propensity to UTI’s and was on oestrogen for ten years. She used to have submissive urination problems (only first seeing someone) but this completely disappeared on oestrogen. She lived seventeen plus years. I would have spayed her later if I knew about the importance of oestrogen for the development of the urinary tract small muscles. She was a standard and I never let her jump off anything she couldn’t jump onto and I encouraged stairs and exercise. I never let her get overweight. IVDD is avoidable if you select genetically and encourage fitness.
Bicarbonate soda is really good for blood stains.. Worked a treat on my mattress when I had a huge blood patch......... Long story short. A girl I slept with. Failed to mention she was having/expecting a period 😂🤷🏻♂️🙈
Thank you for saying about the poo i thought mine was just doing it to pee me off or something I wasn’t too sure but there is one this i would like to ask your thoughts on, my dachshund has started pulling and chewing hair of other dogs as in i also have a long hair jack and she can often be seen chewing large chucks of hair off her or she will got up to my jack even if she is asleep or just sitting doing nothing and start pulling at her hair and she wont stop even if the jack moves she will follow her and still pull at her hair. Ive tried positive reinforcement and then my jack wants treats as well and if I don’t give my jack some she will make her self sick and then i have tried telling her off but then my jack runs and hide or sits in a corner shacking bec she thinks i have told her off. What can i do to stop this issue and has anyone else had this problem as i am coming to my wits end trying to work out should i carry on up setting my jack or make my jack over weight but i know with shouting they don’t learn but with being caring they do but my jack is done and I don’t want her piling on the weight and if there is no other dog in the room she doesn’t do it so how can i find the right way or any way of curbing this problem? Thanks for the video as well
Our dog Eva did this to any of our females when they were in season or when she was in season. Is your female spayed? We really struggled to stop it so I stress we put our females in tee shirts 😅 She then was spayed and it stopped ❤️
Hi thank you for the message my girl she is 8 months old miniature and no not as yet she has not been done, she seems to do the hair all over my jacks body from her mouth to ears to head to neck legs and back and she can be pretty aggressive some times about it and im looking after my mums Yorkshire who is a tea cup and she keeps on at her. Well at least she is not the only one that does it then lol why is she doing it tho? I thought from what i heard was about grooming each other but she is going to a whole new level with it and I don’t know if I should give her treats which will make the jack fat or tell her off which makes the jack over scared and shake and hide so im sorta stuck which root of way to ease it? Ive tired cloths on them but she will still do the ears and face and tail so without putting my jack in full armour lol i am not sure what to do lol
@@leewalters3547 definitely keep doing the tee shirt on. And a firm ‘leave it’ should do the job. To be honest with you we did the best we could with tee shirt and asking her off when needed, but of course sometimes it flew through the net so we just dealt with the bald patches until she was old enough to neuter and then it totally stopped :)
So I've got a boy and his breeder told us that when we want our next we should get a girl as they will get on better than 2 boys. What do you think about this? I'll be honest all the season stuff puts me off a bit especially considering I have to deal with all the gross boy stuff already 😂

This way we can start to monetise these videos which would help SO MUCH towards Nemo's ongoing costs. Also if you ever want to chat head here and message us facebook.com/nemotripawd/ Lots of love Lenny & Dachshunds
Thanks for this video Lenny, very helpful! This might be a dumb question, but I'm wondering if in general female dachshunds have seasons once or twice a year, or how often they go into season? Thanks again for these videos Lenny!
Hello. We have an 11yr old male mini and a one year old female. The male has always been very sweet and docile and we didn’t know how spoiled e were! The female puppy is obnoxious around our male. Pushes him around (body slams) pulls at his collar takes all his toys and treats and generally acts like a little domineering little b. We want to protect our old guy. Do u have some advice for us
Dogs set boundaries they’re happy with. If he isn’t growling or snapping he probably doesn’t mind. However your best bet is to read that as ‘shes bored’ and interferes by turning the play onto you guys rather than him :) don’t tell off as will just frustrate her. Maybe she just has more energy and smarts and needs more mind games and interaction :)
Hi Sydney! Dachshunds shouldn’t be spay before 2 years old because it doubles the chances of IVDD. If you watch my reducing risks of IVDD video I go into more details :) x
I got my girl doxie 2 years ago at 2 years old. Went through one season and a phantom pregnancy before she got spayed. This video would have been very helpful for me then lol. She also eats 💩 whenever she gets the chance
Yes they do but at fully grown age aka 2 years plus or not at all. There’s no really health benefits to spaying more decline in benefits in this breed x
Hi Stephanie. My two adult males are neutered :) we tried separating and also tried chemical castrations. But sadly that’s how we ended up with Nemo. So I will always recommend if you have An intact female not suitable for the male etc then to neuter the male x x
Use hydrogen peroxide on blood stains and will remove stains. Always had my female dachshunds neutered. I would end up all the puppies. Could not give up.
I have an 11 year old male and now have a 4 month female pup....she's been sneaking into the neighbours garden and stealing cat shit out his flower beds. Have to retrieve it out her mouth with my bare hands. So disgusting 😂
Don't you spay and neuter your dogs? I haven't heard of allowing any dog to retain their sex organs, unless they are official breeders or champion dogs for competition. Do you allow them to go to full maturity for a while before you spay and neuter your dogs?
The female eating poop is more the fact that they need to keep the den clean and that is what they do with their pups as well. That's most female dogs especially if not spayed.
it’s just my living room. Not something anyone has ever commented on before, but I don’t claim to be a professional TH-camr, so unfortunately I only have the sound the camera provides.
Because of the increased risk of IVDD in this breed and because of the possible imbalance in my ‘pack’ if I were to remove their hormones. Thanks for asking
Here in Germany, we give the poo-eating dogs Limburger cheese at breakfast. The bacteria in the cheese supports the gut and the poo-eating stops.
Wow that's amazing. Thank you for this knowledge.

Use the yellow elbow grease spray it removes blood amazing, completely takes it out xx
My female mini doxie is definitely the queen over my male Labrador and Pom. She is wee in size but HUGE in heart!
Maybe a video on losing you dachshunds, and morning them.
Hey! I recommend 18 months old at the earliest - this is what the breed council recommends to reduce risks of IVDD x
We are getting our first girl this weekend so this has been very helpful for the future 😅
Where is the link for the phantom pregnancy. My wh daxi is going through it at the moment x
Hi, love ur very informative clips. Thankyou. Just wondering if the females regulate with each other, or are they all on different cycles/seasons?
Mine are very very close together but I think it varies x
My females have always been the leaders of our groups and the males are kind of the silly backups for them 😆
@Jacquie Crawley I didn't say it did, the owner of the video replied to someone else saying it did. I was asking about the IVDD.
Is this typical for all female dog breeds or specific to dachshunds?
At what age is it safe for me to have my chiwennie puppy fixed?
Anytime after 18 months x
We really struggled to stop it so I stress we put our females in tee shirts 😅
She then was spayed and it stopped ❤️
Girls and boys do get on better. You reduce the risk of any chance of falling out when you have opposite sex. 🖤
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 ah thank you! 😊
You're an absolute gem, would you like to move in with me in Australia. I bought a mini 13 days and counting
Awwww! I’d love to come to aus 🤣

Thanks for this video Lenny, very helpful! This might be a dumb question, but I'm wondering if in general female dachshunds have seasons once or twice a year, or how often they go into season? Thanks again for these videos Lenny!
Usually twice per year but some only once :) x
Aww I see, thanks Lenny!
Is there a reason I should not spay my dachshund? I noticed you said you haven’t spayed yours. I might be a first time dog owner in a few weeks
Hi Sydney! Dachshunds shouldn’t be spay before 2 years old because it doubles the chances of IVDD. If you watch my reducing risks of IVDD video I go into more details :) x
LENNY & SIX DACHSHUNDS thanks for the response!
Any time! X
I got my girl doxie 2 years ago at 2 years old. Went through one season and a phantom pregnancy before she got spayed. This video would have been very helpful for me then lol. She also eats 💩 whenever she gets the chance
Oh bless you and her!! So many things about these sausages that shock us!! I bet you did an amazing job 💜❤️ xx
Do the seasons come every month ?
Every 6 months x
I wish I had seen the video on Males
Don't people spay and neuter in the UK, or do you breed them?
Yes they do but at fully grown age aka 2 years plus or not at all. There’s no really health benefits to spaying more decline in benefits in this breed x
Are your males neutered? If not, how do you keep them away from your females during heat? Tips would be great. Thank you.
Hi Stephanie. My two adult males are neutered :) we tried separating and also tried chemical castrations. But sadly that’s how we ended up with Nemo. So I will always recommend if you have An intact female not suitable for the male etc then to neuter the male x x
What do you mean in season?
You might call it ‘in heat’
Wait... Isn't this when they are ovulating and looking for a hookup buddy? Mine is fiesty and barky and...more everything, including taking more naps
My baby just got her periods yesterday.
Use hydrogen peroxide on blood stains and will remove stains. Always had my female dachshunds neutered. I would end up all the puppies. Could not give up.
Peroxide is like a magic marker for blood
Love your videos..wondering have you got an Instagram?
Yes! I’ve got two :)

Exactly! I allow them to reach full maturity before spaying as dachshunds need to grow their full growth plates to decrease chances of IVDD. X
The female eating poop is more the fact that they need to keep the den clean and that is what they do with their pups as well. That's most female dogs especially if not spayed.

Did you record the voice in your bath?
Sorry what?
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 There is so much echo.
it’s just my living room. Not something anyone has ever commented on before, but I don’t claim to be a professional TH-camr, so unfortunately I only have the sound the camera provides.
Get the female's fixed unless you are going to bred them.
The positives to keeping them in tact outweigh the negatives for me. Thanks anyway
Why then there is a reason to have a dog?
Me to 2weeks she stink a little bit to fish thé smell it to thé lik it al day clean
Hydrogen peroxide takes its right out
so get your dog spayed!!!
6 dogs yeah you're nuts.... I'm looking for advice from a normal person.
lol
My boy dachshund would always eat his own poop. So disgusting 🤮🤮🤮
🙈🙈🙈🙈
Y don’t u fix your animals????
Because of the increased risk of IVDD in this breed and because of the possible imbalance in my ‘pack’ if I were to remove their hormones. Thanks for asking
If not breeding, spay
Why?
Truly horrible woman.
Sorry what?
Wow.... how nasty. !!!!!!!!
