I have only recently found your channel and as an enthusiastic amateur who started off with a sponge and chamois leather 45 years ago cleaning (destroying) my dad’a car, I can honestly say that I have learned so much from you. What sets you apart is your willingness to try anything and everything, be completely objective and to think about it all not just from the point of view of a professional but what would work for an amateur or someone starting out as a detailer. I have yet to watch all of your content but have not yet seen any vacuum cleaner reviews, have I missed that or are you planning to do this in the future? I wish you every possible success and thanks for taking the time to share your skills and opinions with us.
Hello thank you so much for your kind words. Means a lot to me. I'm filming a few videos next week including a vacuum cleaner one. I really appreciate the positive comments.
I've got a van for mobile valeting, with a generator and water tank and all of that, but went out to a few jobs with my personal car instead. The bare minimum fitted perfectly in the boot (I drive an estate car, so the longer boot helped). To be honest, using a car instead of a van, sometimes feels better, as you don't have to go through the clutter just to use the necessary bits.
Keeping it simple is best. I run a setup out the back of my 2019 Mitsubishi Triton ute. 30L air compressor, vacuum, karcher high pressure, hose reels, chemical rack x12 bottles, 2 slider drawer systems, wash gear, polishing machine and microfiber tubs. I can get 99% of the work done with this setup without having to take anything else. Everything else stays on the garage shelves. No one has even batted an eye for me not taking my own power or water either (Australia based). The key is having a setup where it suits your style of detailing (maintenance / ceramic / heavy duty cleaning / full details) and spending the least amount of time mucking around finding and setting up / packing up equipment.
I used to love washing and paint correcting mine and friends cars from an Alfa Romeo forum. I had decided to give it a go as a business but after having a few bouts of severe back pain, sadly was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I found it immensely calming to see cars transformed and the expression on the owners faces.
God help us !!!! When I think back to how it was back in those early days, iam surprised we didn't just walk away from car valeting. It just goes to show how much you can learn as time goes by. Hopefully people starting out in this business can learn from this and not make our mistakes. This is actually a well put together video that has been well thought out. Good luck everyone. I've been cleaning cars 3 days a week out of a Tesla Model 3. Plenty of room for hoses in the front. Chemicals, gernie, polishing gear and George the vacuum/extractor in the boot. 👍
Great video Dave. It's honestly a really fair point about just doing it out of the car, because that's what I was looking at doing in a few months time when I come to start my own mobile valet. You can just use the customer's power and water if you are clear about it in advance. Yes, you may lose out on some people who expect you to use your own, but someone I spoke to recently said they're the sort of people that will give you all the grief anyways! Thanks for the video
You can counter any customer complaints by saying your cutting the co2 by carrying less weight, driving a better eco vehicle and not using fuel for a generator. So I see so many benefits of using a car
@@epicautomotivedetailing 100% mate. Not only that, it can be argued to them that you'd have to charge more because of the weight and fuel costs to cover your own back. It's a win for all parties. Looking forward to getting started with my company! Cheers!
I use a rolling metal cart with 3 levels that has mesh for the bottoms. So I just take out all the critical stuff like hoses, extension cords, pressure washer, etc.. to set up and then load the cart up with the chemicals, towels and tools I expect to use. Basically the same thing you're doing with the boxes but a little easier to move around together and I toss used towels or things that may be dripping on the lower levels of the cart so they can kinda dry before going back in the bins at the end.

Hi dave, im a carpenter by trade, and i just about make end meet by the end of the month. So i decided to become a mobile detailer on the side. I've got all the kit to an extent (chargeable handheld wetvac instead of a big one, and a bog standard pressure washer) but aside from that all my kit is professional quality. Do you just use then arbitrarily on the day regardless of size or color, and then chuck them in the washing machine ? Sorry for how many questions that is. Completely understand if you dont answer everything mate
I fit all my kit in the rear of an Evoque. I have 2 15lt jerrycan of water, a battery powered "pressure" washer for the more dirty cars, most of my customers (old colleagues at my previous employer) are only needing a waterless wash and then some sealants /waxes or coatings. I have a jackary power station for those that want the whole shebang for their paint and it can run my 700w DA for 2hrs and a fair bit of change. Plus the usual culprits a mobile valeting old man will need. If you know how small the evoque boot is, you know how cramped it is. Never had a complaint about not looking professional, if they whinge, not worth my time.
To be honest, I really want to start a car detailing business but I am so worried because of all the products I THINK I would need. I am concerned that I wont be able to do the job in the case a customer does say no. It would be ideal to have my own power and water in that case, but I simply am lost. Any advice for a beginner like me?
Could you shed some light on your approach to managing your business operations, particularly the valeting/detailing aspect, while effectively maintaining a work-life balance with your family? It's truly remarkable how you consistently create engaging TH-cam content while successfully running your business. I'm curious, do you handle all these responsibilities independently?
Yes I would love to. If I'm honest it's not easy. It sometimes tears apart my family life. I work all the time all day and night. I do the school runs too. It's unbearable 😔
@@epicautomotivedetailing I have experienced this today myself, two cars mini valet inside full exterior valet including decom. then full wax on both cars. took me from 9am till 6pm, it is sad, I haven't seen my kids all day. and now I'm here putting my lad to sleep while working on my business... but the work does pay of as I just earned a weeks wage in a day.... :)
Move on to the next. The probably if that happening in most cases is slim from my own experience but for beginners who are just practicing at this stage they can be picky and just find other potential customers

I use a small ROYBI 40v battery powered pressure washer to dispense my rinse-less water solution, it uses very little product.
@@DetailingSanctuary brilliant stuff well done. At least you could take the odd day off to rest now
Dave - just out of interest what payment system do you use for your clients? Thanks.
they pay me direct into bank mate. a company called sumup are quite good i heard
I do mine on a bike and trailer, i carry a cordless powerwasher and a vacuum
Amazing that's awesome. I started on a bike
Damnit Dave you're broadcasting all my advantages 😂
Lol 😁
What do you do if you have a client who doesn’t have an outside water tap and you don’t have any water?
Move on to the next. The probably if that happening in most cases is slim from my own experience but for beginners who are just practicing at this stage they can be picky and just find other potential customers
they won't get a car wash...
May I have link for the purchase of the boxes
Halfords and Amazon sell them mate
Have you ever had problems using your customers water and electricity supply? I always assumed I’d need a tank and generator to get custom
Never had any problems ever
Im thinking to start doing this from my little car nissan pulsar. Do you think that will be ok?
Im a bit scare to start the business.
How was you at beginning? Cheers
Yes it's fine. I started on a pedal bike. Yes I made many mistakes but I've learned so much about the job and myself as a person. You will develop skills over time and look back on where you started
@epicautomotivedetailing have you made any course so you can learn more or you just done it everyday and learn it from what you have done ?
