      Shisochin is my personal favourite, with Tensho running a close second. Well, it's my favourite kata, but not my favourite bunkai: Naifunchin has my favourite bunkai overall :)

    Recently got back into Goju Ryu after a 15 year hiatus and currently relearning the kata, which lead me to your channel. What are the odds I relearn Shisochin a few days ago and you release this video?
    Thanks for all the great content.

    Another wonderful presentation of Shisochin bunkai Sensei Che - really nice because you are really showing a very classical approach to Goju-Ryu Bunkai - the close quarters aspect is there, and the one or two steps quick counter-attack and finish the opponent quickly and decisively - none of the fancy, impractical bunkai.
    I think Goju-Ryu kicks followed by the elbow "strike" also presents the opportunity (apart from the excellent bunkai you have shown here) to use Chinkuchi, ramming the opponent with one's entire body weight, but, but focusing that power on the tip of the elbow, which is just so much more destructive. We see that a lot in Chinese MA, especially recently demonstrated by Tamotsu Miyahira Sensei (on the Kuro-obi channel) - whereby he fixes the elbow in position then allows his body weight to drop into a ramming action...we see some of the older Okinawan senseis do this -stomping with the kicking foot as they land into an
    elbow "strike". In any case, it's good to see lots of bunkai on the elbow attack- it's very Goju and very effective.

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, poor neglected Chinkuchi - we should do a video on it, because it is such a vital part of karate and explaining what kata is for, and it doesn't get enough time to shine. Thank you, as always, for the detailed and lovely comments, Matthew! And apologies for our late reply - working on the comment backlog >.

    Your videos contain many important and good ideas. If I may allow myself a comment. In my little karate world there are no blocks to block a punch to the head or face. Here I would react more like a boxer and try to avoid the punch(avade or commude). I think that the attacker often wants to grab the face or neck with one hand and then strike with the other hand. For this I would use the Kake-Uke to block or grab the first hold and then start the counterattack.

      You are 100% right that using taisu-baki and moving out the way and using alternative techniques to stop the grab and hook is the way! This is why we value the community we have built here in our comment section - sometimes we get clowns, but mostly, we get solid karate-ka who have meaningful insights to share. Thank you so much for commenting and watching 😁

      @@GojuRyuKarateCentre thanks for that comment. There are so many wrong things or explanations which you can see, also in videos of japanese. For example Kata Sanseru oder Suparinpei. These kata starts both with techniques looks like double block uchi-uke. And the explanations (Bunkai) ist explaned that there ist an attack to the wrists. In my opinion that is crap. Karate was made from men for men (fighters). I do not know any fighter, attack the wrists. In my opinion, that are attacks to the nack with both hands. And the defence is a double punch to the lungs. And may be after that a double block outside, it this is necessary.

    Sensei,
    We do the Kiso Kumite from Shoreikan and there is a set where the receiver does a down block, and then retaliates with an uppercut followed by a downward elbow to the chest. A crusher!

    What is difference between kakie uke and hikie uke please?

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hikiuke is more pulling or grasping
      Kakieuke is more pushing or sticking in nature
      Some schools use these names for the same technique but where the action of the block is subtly different
      Some schools show these “blocks “as two different blocks

    Instead of nukite, I'd rather stick my thumb into an eye socket and flip the wrist as in kata. Then another hand is actually controlling some brian with a forearm resting on his chest and while your palm is on his head, too. Then nukite helps to control that slide into the eye. Goju-ryu is a close-quarter combat, almost clinching. But what do I know (there are other two same but different in the sequence, right?). And Zoe, even known as a thug wife, shouldn't be teaching kids this, methinks. :o)
