I have my grandfathers 1951 Esquire #1010!!!
mouth movements are legendary
No one can beat Jimi Hendrix for that skill.
Empty Spaces Jimi was flying on Heroin probably..
thats all line 6s are good for, sitting on...
This is what all the film guys said about Hasselblad digital cameras... Line 6 is catching up.
Line 6 amps are the bomb.......I love them !!!
Wick Beavers now it’s dslr vs mirrorless and mirrorless is winning haha.
Thanks for the demo, Mark. Lovely guitar and cool picking too.
I have a friend who has a '51 Nocaster. I get to play it from time to time. Really sweet!
I feel like a guitar with this much history and rarity should just go in a museum.
Dave Lemos do you also think that classic cars should just be hauled up into a museum?
The Road Runners, yes.
Dave Lemos I respect that. I can see it from both sides, but these things were built to be used. So long as they are used with the highest level of respect. A museum condemns an object to a life it was never intended for.
That said, I would rather see that guitar in a museum than in the hands of these fools who don't seem to have knowledge of or respect for the instrument.
I strongly disagree. My favourite guitar stories are ones of great guitars passed from one great player to another. I'd always rather see a great guitar in the hands of a player than in a glass case in a museum.
the funny thing is... Fender owns Gretsch Guitars now.
XD
I watch every day and have seen you play often like today. In the pocket. If I was asked who was playin', I couldn't tell if Vince was in the house... All I can say is - THANK YOU AND JEN cause the chickenpicken was worth the price of admission ! It's nice to see you shine on a variety of styles at a day job - that thousands of us guys dream of....you live it.
Thanks again
js
Great sounding guitar and super playing!!!
I'm happy to have a Telecaster,1984,mine is vintage too!
Lovely instrument, wonderful legacy. And the original case too. Wow.
FYI, the serial number has NOTHING to do with what order they were made in, and the fact that this one has #1011 absolutely does NOT mean that it was the "11th" Nocaster made. it could just as easily be the 423rd, 289th, or 651st. Back in '51, Fender bought their bridge plates about 500 or more at a time, threw them all in a big bucket of bridge plates, and pulled them out randomly, in no particular order, to put on each guitar.
Also, there was no lawsuit from Gretsch. There was a "cease and Desist" letter from Gretsch's lawyers only. Fender complied by clipping the decals, and so avoided any lawsuits.
And, the middle position isn't the "outtaphasic" position, lol. its the neck pickup, without the dark cap engaged, and with the option of blending in the bridge using the blend knob(the tone knob on modern telecasters)
You'd think that the guy from the rare guitar store should know all, or at least any, of that. Its a fairly famous story and unique guitar, for a guy in the "rare guitar" business to be so oblivious about. lol
Nice licks though :-)
yeah this guy is an idiot... and he's the manager?
Lighten up Francis. Just post your (equally unconfirmed) corrections and be done with it.
Hey, super cool information you gave here. I think it's not super cool to phrase things about people you don't know so negatively. You had something cool to share and I'll remember that, but it isn't cool to rag on someone else while showing us that you know something.
TheSnareguitar amen
I think Dave Gilmour has a 0001 serial stratocaster. But again, that doesn't mean its the first one that was made, and I'm sure David knows that. But I bet the 0001 stratocaster is great to pull out and show off when his buddies come by.
Awesome playing!
great playing!!
Great playing!
Great guitar and such a great player.
A friend of my brother have one of those, one hell of a guitar!
amazing and sweet!
Phemonenal clean sound from that Nocaster Really a "dream' guitar.
great playing man,
Lovely guitar. I want one :-)
Great job on the focus cameradude...
muy bueno! una guitarra exelente! muy buen solo! y me copo mucho las caras del chabon q la tocaba
In 8 years this guy hasn't aged a bit :O illuminati confirmed!
Yea he only went bald when he was 12 though
Norm did enough for Both of em
Mark ..can you do a vid with the 57 strat you have on ebay would like to see and here it..thanks Nick
yes please
Is that the Nocaster John 5 buys in the video shot about 3 weeks after this one?
The middle position is not "out of phase". In fact it was the the neck pickup without cap. The "bridge position" is a blender of middle and neck . Sorry to be pedantic but this is a work of art and an investment .
THIS is perfect guitar 'relicing' for me. I'm shopping for a Strat right now and I really want a new one to wear in myself and age it just like this '51.. I'm watching videos of 'how to relic your strat' etc and I hate it when they go too far or ding it and really rust up the hardware.. this 51 Fender here has no intentional relicing and it's beautiful, just natural wear and tear and that's how I want my Strat to look :) Might just get it resprayed in Nitro and let time do the rest!
HI please tell me what you think of a Occhineri guitars thank you
Brent Mason would indeed have a greaaaat time on this guitar :D good choice for the demo.
Finally someone that can play a Telecaster/Nocaster, etc.
fender was not sued -- they were asked and politely obliged to stop using the name -- no discussion of the blend control !! serial no.s were random.. c'mo guys !!!
If you’re a collector maybe but there are so many modern guitars (Fender’s own Nocaster reissue being just one of them) that sound and look great. This is more nostalgia and myth selling to a rapidly diminishing demographic. Each to their own I guess.
they make an excellent recording tool,,,line6 is perfect to put my lamp and picks on while I adjust the volume on my 57 tremolux, not to mention it holds my drink fairly well, lol
Is the bottom cutout horn shape less broad than on later Tele models? This looks identical to replica I put together a few years back. I used a Warmoth body but always hated the horn size as scratchplate looked too close to the edge of the body. I think I needn't have been so concerned as I think it was the correct size looking at this...hope this isn't my replica : )
Gotta appreciate the nod to Brent Mason... one of the greatest Tele pickers of all time..
I want one
sounds amazingly similar to my guitar that somebody assembled from the available parts in 2014 , I'm flabbergasted
man....that thing look so new to me.
I'd kill to have a nocaster!
The number on the plate does not necessarily mean that it´s the serial number of the guitar.
ahahah the best of the day !!!
And you're a hell of a nice guy!
mean sounding...wow, sweet!!
I know the two songs you played but do not know who is the guitarist, songwriter, can you tell me? Thanks... Great vídeo
I would have thought Norms Rare Guitars would know more about what they sell, especially serial numbers. When I win the lottery I'm going to Gruhns.
@searayus1 i just watched the video of his collection and i said that normans guitars would probly have a good one. did he actually buy it?
What is the average price for these because at my local shop they're selling it for 3000 but it's in kinda bad shape
I LIIIEEK!!! HOW MUSH?!?
TREBLE HEAVEN!
The camera man needs to work on his close ups, he won't let the camera refocus, he zooms in and out before it can focus. Also i don't know if it's the guitar and amp pairing that isn't working out well, it sounds harsh and very unpleasant, not a classic sound at all.
Why on earth using an amp like that for this demo??? There's just no point at all. Why not choose a quality old Fender amp so the guitar can really bloom?
+JonasSweden1 .... You're absolutely right there. I play my '52 USA re-issue Tele through a 20 year old Marshall JTM30. It has 5881 tubes and a Celestion Heritage speaker and blooms big style like real old school. That guy woulda sounded a lot better through a diffferent amp . Has he ever actually been told that much treble makes you sound cheap? !
Jazz Man an original princeton is great amp, the modern reissues don't do justice. They aren't terrible and have their place but it doesn't give an ideal representation of what this guitar is probably capable of. There's another vid where he plays a Broadcaster into a vintage tweed and it sounds like it should.
these guys don't mic their demos properly, it's always some cam mic.
What's the actual difference?
To me, the Nocaster is the purest sound of a Tele.
The custom shop did a good job with the reissue relics though.
i played an old tele like this at guitar center in hollywood, but i didn't like that the neck was so thick. it felt as if fender didn't even consider comfortability in those times
Ok the guitar sounds great, now for the rest of the pickups?
Great Nocaster! Amp is a little dry, but the wood side sure sings!
That's Authentic
John5 recently purchased this guitar from Norm
Comfort is subjective. The neck on my reissue Nocaster is very thick and very comfy, more so than the modern thin C-profiles.
@flavien1988 hot wired by brent mason, the second song is also by brent mason
I now consider my chicken to be picked! Nice playing!
I wonder how much the guitar sold for?
@flavien1988 everything he played is from Brent Masons "Hotwired" album. It's out of production on cd but you may be able to find it on iTunes. If not, contact me through here and I'll make you a cd.
Keith
how much pls ?? (gbp)
@Guitarist9992
Haha very very true!
Dang Mark you come alive on a Tele.
Is that a Campilongo Princeton?
#NRGFREEBOOK I'm nostalgic. Miss those days
I've got a video of Andy Summers and he does this weird thing with his mouth while playing that drove me crazy Then I saw a video of my band playing and I do the same thing. When you play, your trying attempting to make the guitar "talk" and you sometimes form the notes with your mouth at the same time your playing the notes on the guitar.
@superskwrl i have telecasters, i know the bridge, it sounds particularly clicky
Hah! Hot wired and Blowin' smoke!
whats the difference betwen a telecaster and nocaster and broad castter
+Adam Feher Very little, outside of the names and wiring. Broadcaster came first, in '50. The wiring was a three way switch and two knobs. There was no tone control. The second pot acted as a blend control to dial in shades of the neck pickup with the bridge when in the bridge position(1). It was non-functional in positions 2 and 3. Position 2 was just the neck pickup. Position 3 was the neck with that deep tone drop. The Nocaster('51) was identical, but for the name being dropped due to the cease and desist letter from Gretsch. There was no actual lawsuit. In '52, it was named Telecaster and the blend pot was changed to a tone pot, giving bridge with variable tone control, neck with variable tone control, and neck with the preset, deep tone. Around 66-67, CBS finally dropped Leo's "Deep Rhythm" circuit in position 3, bringing what we now think of as standrad tele wiring: neck/neck+bridge/bridge, using the 3- way switch, along with standard volume and tone.
thank
I though I was a dick... but I have absolutely nothing on the people who come on here and belittle some poor guy simply trying to tell us about a rare guitar and play a little bit for us. People are so hateful and judgmental.
Great demo Mark! Now keep that case closed! lol
Sorry for being a dumbass I wasn't reading the tag right and made a mistake it actually was a reissue I'm new to guitars and I really just started playing and researching and I've fallen in love with telecasters
Fancy
THE GREAT LEO FENDER SOUND
What brand of tobaki are you chewing?
I like the funny faces
kicks off with brent mason-- good job bud
Timing on these brent licks was not ok, but its really difficult to play that stuff.
There is a radio show in Seattle that plays "the Ah Um Game". A caller has to speak for 1 minute on a subject without saying ah or um. This guy would not win.
James Krys holy $h!t, I would fail miserably at such a game...I just tried to do it in my head just now and I am ridiculously stressed and anxious now as a result lol
Here is the history:
1. Initially Fender released the "esquire" series with only one pick-up.
2. The "broadcaster" series was next that featured two pick-ups.
3. Gretsch sued Fender over the "broadcaster" name that Gretsch owned.
4. The "noCaster" series was born due to the lack of name on the neck because of the lawsuit.
5. Fender introduces "telecaster" that has two pick-ups and a truss rod through the neck.
epic guitar face at 2:20
riff at 1:57
Lots of grown men do not have large hands. I don't and I figure I'm as grown as I'm gonna get. I'm happy for you that you have large hands but there are some fine guitarists who don't.
you will find that a lot of vintage guitars from the 50s had fat necks. too each his own, but i LOVE fat necks.
i played a 51 nocaster at Guitar Center Hollywood. oof, talk about a nice guitar!! didn't $45K on me though to buy it. LOl!
It was the Broadcaster they were asked to change the name of.
Twangy twang👍🏻
Pedant alert! Gretsch didn't sue Fender over the Broadkaster (drum set) name but came to an amicable agreement with them. The spelling-(with a 'k') was different so I really don't see what the gripe was. It ain't as if you could mistake the two!
Finding himself without his leather to ruin guitars, Mark opts for the closest zipper in sight to chew into this vintage guitar! 🤐
Hot Wired - Brent Mason
^ It's true! He has killed for nocasters before. More addictive than crack.
Yeah, ok Mark but can you play "Stairway"?
john 5 owns that guitar now :P
A thing is "to play" a guitar, another thing is "to film" a guitar. There is NOT a close up image IN FOCUS.
tttwwwwwaaaaaaannnnnnggggg
I like how he’s sitting on the line 6 amp. That’s the only thing they’re good for haha
I have small hands too and I actually like fat necks. I don't know what that's all about, but I feel your pain.
Did joe buy this one?
