Hey, Jamaican subscriber here. Just so you know, it's meant to be flaky and the filling is meant to be minced meat so you wouldn't find chunks of meat inside a patty. And I have no idea why the vegetable patty looked like that lol. I don't know what kind of pastry that was 😐

The first one I tried, hated. For some reason I tried one again. Now I'm hooked. Didn't know there were other flavors, we are a selection limited bunch up here in the great white north.

the beef patties are actually pretty good to be honest i cook them in a toaster oven all the moisture in the bag kinda ruins them if you do it in the microwave in my opinion anyways

Jamaican beef patties are the only Dollar Tree items I trust. Being from NYC, it's nice to have these items available even in rural FL or AL, where I currently reside. In NYC you get these beef patties on every street corner frest, these frozen ones are not bad at all for not being fresh ONLY when you bake, not microwave it losers its quality when you microwave.
I don't know if you have ever had an authentic Jamaican patty because they are delicious. My family is from Jamaica, and the street vendors or my aunties know what they're doing
Jam Jam I went to an authentic Jamaican restaurant In VA beach last month and I loved the food! Had a patty, some sweet bread, jerk chicken, rice, and fresh collard greens was the best!! I'd eat those greens every day!

OMG.... I obviously don't have any taste, because I bought the "spicy beef" patties at the Dollar Tree just to try and I liked it (mine's was crispy, did not fall apart, & had plenty of meat inside).. I keep a couple in the freezer for a quickie snack...I'm sorry 😔

Just found this test. I used to buy a different brand of Jamaica Beef Patty at Publix grocery store. Spicyness varied from tingly to pretty hot. Pastry shell was less flaky. I generally liked them.

Every Jamaican restaurant around me (Upstate NY) sells the same ones; no different than those in the video. They"re faintly disgusting. It's so disappointing, because I'm sure I've never had an authentic beef patty, not even when I try going to the "experts".

U haven’t lived till u taste Jamaican tastee patties straight from Jamaica. Heat ur over at 350 for 15 min and cook till the ends are brownish and crispy and the top is flaky. And u, my good man, have got yourself heaven. (P.s.-Always eat the middle then the crust)

Golden Krust is actually a chain bakery with franchises all over the East Coast.
Brand new Dollar Tree opened near my house. Tried the beef one tonight and it was really good. 3 times the filling of the one you tried. And the crust was all intact and very crispy/crunch from the microwave.
The Jamaican beef patties at Costco are actually pretty good. Around 10 bucks for a box of ten-so about the same price as the Dollar Tree ones, but with much more filling and better crust. I microwave them.
Those Golden Krust patties made up the majority of my diet for about 2 years straight. They were cheap, easy, I doused them in hot sauce, and I didn't give a shit about myself or what I ate, so needless to say that was a dark time in my life.

Im at 8:18 of vid and trust me, the beef ones taste so good if you put them in the oven versus the microwave! I just cooked one in the oven on 350 degrees for about 30 minutes and I am eating it right now! It is so delicious! It's super crunchy and flaky!
I've seen a few other "Jamaicans" post a comment on this. Most likely, that's the diaspora. I.e Americans/Canadians with Jamaican parents. I AM jamaican and I'm typing this from my bed in KINGSTON, JAMAICA. I don't eat patties anymore cuz..well they are unhealthy but they taste damnnnnn good, but I used to eat these a lot in High school. So I think I am qualified to tell you how these are supposed to look and taste.
Vegetable Patty: The crust is always wheat based and made without all the fat of the regular crust. They are never crunchy..and shouldn't be flaky. The filling should be mixed,
shredded vegetables. What you ate would get thrown away as spoiled here.
Chicken Patty: The crust should be the same as a normal beef patty, moderately flaky and crunchy. The crust that they gave you isn't up to par, but I'd probably be ok with it If I bought a frozen patty that was intended for microwave. Now, the filling. Totally wrong. -10/10. A chicken patty is really a chicken CURRY patty with shredded/ground chicken depending on where you buy it. It should be spicy and aromatic. You didn't get anything close.
Spicy Beef Patty: Crust should be same as above. Filling- First off...there is no such thing as a "Spicy" Beef patty, it's just a Beef Patty. It's supposed to be moderately spicy and made with ground beef, so you wouldn't see any pieces. 0/10 based on looks and your description as bland.

RIP to the founder/CEO, he passed away not to long ago. I found out about this brand from watching Undercover Boss.
These things are my guilty pleasure, I get the jerk chicken cause it has the most "spice". I wrap 3 in foil with a few holes punched and let them warm slowly on the lowest heat my oven has (around or just below 200) then dip in a mixture of hotsauce called pickapeppa with some sriracha. Its more than enough calories for a day and just over 3 bucks with tax and the dip. At the time it helped make it to the next pay check and these along with potatos, beans, rice, ramen and cabbage got me through a fun two years and I still go back to them without fail. Also you can't let them steam in the foil or they will fall apart and if your feeling fancy, just before they're done heating through pop them into a cast iron pan with just a bit of high temp oil to get a bit of crisp on them.
Or save yourself alot of trouble,and just get an airfryer

I work at Dollar Tree and everyone who bought these said that these are good. Tonight after 1 year of working there, I finally got around to pick a couple up. I got the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Spicy Beef. We didn't have Veggie. I shared a little bit with my stepdad and we thought they're better than we expected and like the beef one more. I'd definitely see myself picking up a bunch for a snack or lunch at work

I'm Jamaican and I would never eat this crap. By the way Jamaican party crusts are meant to be flaky. But these are horrible and do look like shit and vomit. It's sad because for around $1.25 in Jamaica u can get real hot freshly baked patties
I honestly like these, they're good with salsa/Sriracha. You have to make it in an airfryer or oven. You also have to feel each packet before buying for cracks because sometimes they get crushed or cracked in transport.

My local grocery sells 20 decent quality patties for $10 and my local jamacain restaurant sells 1 patty for around $1-$1.25
do yourself a favor some time and go get some beef patties from the Jamaican grocery store in the shady part of town... they don't cost much more, and half the time they're home made... a properly made Jamaican spicy beef patty is one of the greatest things you'll ever eat...

Those look really weird, even for golden krust. My parents hail from Haiti, so growing up in florida we had all sorts of snacks - including cheap central/south american snacks. I've only had the beef patties, and the "crust" never looked that flaky. That looks like it was dropped or something.
With that being said, those are NOTHING compared to the authentic stuff, and the authentic Jamaican patty has nothing on the HAITIAN patty ;-)

I decided to get one of these tonight during a quick trip to get some milk. Since watching this years ago I always wondered if I’d like them.
All they had were the chicken ones but I got one anyway. I’m happy to report the TVP is gone. The crust was thick and flaky, plenty of filling and a mild spice, but it’s there. Interestingly the cooking directions are slightly different in that you just open one end of the package. I think letting more steam out helps the crust. Not bad, I’d think they’re worth another try when you feel up for it Larry. Get well soon ❤️🩹

There used to be the spicy beef ones at my local Dollar General. I loved those and was disappointed they stopped carrying them.
The ones I get are a different brand that come in a box of multiple and bake with a golden crust. They're delicious and very spicy.
I think the vegetable one was so flakey because it got beaten around beforehand... you have to be very gentle with them. If Dollar Tree is rough with the boxes, this can happen.

I put a little coconut oil (also in dollar tree) in the pan, and use a meat press on top to fry. The beef are GOOOOD.

No No No microwave is wrong buddy. I've had these. Fully defrost first. Heat oven to 300 to 325 to brown it's up to you. Mine always come out good. Do the same to the Swanson Hungry man dinners no microwave will ya.

Hey I'm from New York and golden crusts legendary here. You can find them in the Bronx,Brooklyn, and Queens, and those don't look anything like Golden Krust Patty. They are supposed to be flaky the meat should be minced it's basically a Jamaican mincemeat pie but the color and texture is completely off but then again I've never seen one microwaved.
Golden Krust is a real brand. Dollar Tree probably bought the ones that were closer to expiration wholesale. The veggie one you had looked like it was freezer burned because the ones I get from anywhere else are much nicer looking and more intact. These were my go-to for lunch after they stopped carrying the steamed pork buns.

FatelessWarrior ZFG Veggie patties usually have a whole wheat crust as opposed to the orangey crust of the beef patties, it's not an empanada. There are quite a few Golden Krust stores where I live and I don't buy the veggie patties from them anymore because I can't stand the whole wheat crust. I go to Finger Lickin' (I live in South Florida) where the veggie patties are made with that delicious orangery, flakey crust. Their patties are so much better than Golden Krust's.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found these at our Family Dollar. OMG I used to get these at the MN State Fair for breakfast (much better version, of course) every year, then I moved to WY and so sad. Then this year the FD got the chix and beef ones and YAYAYAY-yuh these are not bad. Nicely spicy, even. MUCH better sticking them in the oven for 20 mins. I give them a 10 for just existing so I don't have to make my own pastry and make a mess pulverizing meat.
I love the vegetable ones. No matter what you say. Just heat them out of the bag. Simply on a plate for 2 minutes.

Ii get the $2.60 2PKS at Walmart made by Caribbean Food Delight . Founded: 1978 on Dyre Avenue in the Bronx, NY which is currently the frozen food affiliate of Royal Caribbean Bakery by Vincent & Jeanette HoSang - both from the beautiful island of Jamaica. I get the Jamaican Style beef and beefy cheese. Has lots of beef 9oz. They are a great little snack. Flaky crust, I love them. Your S Tree brand is only 5OZ, Get them at Walmart.

i microwave my for 1 min and 30 sec then i open it up add good yellow cheese then put butter on the frying pan then 2 mints each side taste great
I microwave for 2 minutes, open patty, add cheese and hot sauce, then 375 degree oven for 5 minutes, then add an egg. Decent (high sodium) quick breakfast.

i refuse to buy foods from dollar stores unless they are non perishables..
I always walked passed on these at my local 99cent store until I watched this video. So, I bought a couple. Now I wished I bought the rest of the case. The spicy beef patties are absolutely delicious. Now I buy as much as I can, which is usually what they have in the freezer, i.e. not very many.
Walmart sometimes has them for 97 cents.
How the hell this man sleep on Dollar Tree for so long?? Maaaaan my sisters and I would get 5 dollars from our mom once a month from our chores as little kids. We would have a FIELD DAY! And it hasnt stopped yet. Dollar Store patron for LIFE!!!!!

as an introduction, I actually really like these for what they are. I stock up on them (i'm a truck driver) and put them in my fridge. its a decent 2 minute to go snack if I'm planning on cooking a dinner in my rice cooker later anyways
