    Wow, omg, I’m so so grateful I happed upon your tutorial this am, I had just decided to not do the open mic today with my melodica and my Ireal Pro “band” (iPhone/external speaker) and hold off, and boy it was kismet! Being very bad at going exploring on apps, not a good quality to have, I watched and am now so excited. Duh 🙄 I didn’t know I could edit my charts I’ve downloaded, you’d think the pencil would’ve been a clue. Doing a jazz tune that wasn’t like chart I have or jazz artist’s rendition, now I can do both. Really excited, I came to your channel to look at CK61 review again, to get depressed again that speakers are on bottom and no music desk (duh yamaha) -glad I saw this review first!-and went exploring and found this. I’ve had Ireal pro for over a decade and love it, but now love it even more. THANK YOU!

    Hi Tony … thanks for a very useful video. A couple of things I can add … first on the issue of the one page limit, I have seen some people break up their songs into Part 1 and Part 2 etc. Another thing I have found is if you go up to the font symbol (Aa) .. one of the “fonts” that you can pick is the Nashville Numbering System.

      Thanks Bill! I never knew scale degrees for chords had an official name (I'd never heard of the "Nashville Numbering System" even though I've been using it since the 80's lol).

    A great concise video! Thank you! I need backtracks for my ukulele performances and you showed me how I can create them. 👍

      Thanks so much glad you found it helpful! That app is great value! You should also check out my review on songbook pro it’s another great app; once you compile your IReal pro track you can use songbook pro to scroll by chords and lyrics while the track plays (and you can import lyrics and chords straight from Ultimate guitar)

    Great video - have to admit I've had the app on my music dedicated iPad since about 2016, but never got around to using it much. Now that I've finally built a new home studio a (keyboard focused), and have vowed not to get distracted as much by 'real life' - this will be very helpful. Right off the bat, I did not realize the styles you chose meant it would play whatever tune you picked in that style. I thought they were for looking for songs in that style, huge misconception, lol! Also didn't know how easy it was to edit the files. I had seen a few of your vids recently, but this made me hit subscribe :-)

    I've used iReal Pro for several years now. Its biggest shortcoming, in my opinion, is the lack of a strumming or bass-strum rhythm guitar. All the guitar sounds are constantly picked or arpeggiated. For my bluegrass backing tracks, I select nylon string guitar to make the constant picking less annoying. In some other styles, I mute the guitar. Band in the Box would be better, but costs a lot.
    As said in the video, the chord charts are written by members of the user community. Most of the ones I've used are accurate. The users may have copied them out of published books. Only one or two I've come across were bad. For one bluegrass song, for example, the chart maker got the timing wrong and gave every chord only half the duration it needed. Changing the time signature did not help. I had to edit the chart. No big deal.

      Totally agree, would love to get strumming guitars as well (I also often mute those or change them to other instruments). I also have BIAB, it does have better sounds and options, but yes it is quite expensive; and to be honest it has a much larger learning curve. For a fast track I often lean towards IReal Pro. I’ve also exported IReal pro as MIDI into GarageBand and then added my own guitar track in there instead.

    Hi! How does it fair in different time signature and/or changing time signatures??

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! I’ve used 3/4,4/4 and 6/8 and it is fine (there are many other time sigs to choose from). I just tried switching from 3/4 to 4/4 mid song and it works great! Looks like you can specify new time sig at the start of each measure.

    Do you happen to know if it works as smoothly for Windows 10 as on an iPad? Thanks Great tutorial.

      Hi there! They don't actually have a Windows 10 version of iReal Pro, it's just iPhone/iPad. Mac or Android. They do apparently have a workaround where you can run the android version in a 3rd party android emulator if you want to look into that:

      @@PianoTone Thank you. The path of least resistance seems to be to buy a used iPad for a couple of hundred $. It's the same story with the Yamaha Smart Pianist App so after two decades, I've finally been "broken" to buy an Apple iPad! 😮‍💨

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol not an Apple fan I see ;). I must say though for music apps they often seem to be a bit better than the android counterparts, and there are also often apps made for iOS that android doesn’t have.

      @@PianoTone I'll just buy a used 10.2 iPad Gen. 7 for a couple hundred bucks. If I only use it for iReal Pro and running the Yamaha Smart Pianist App, do I need more than 32 Gigs of storage? I see 32-164 Gigs for sale. Thanks very much!

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be completely honest I have no idea what the storage requirements would be, but I’m sure 32 would be fine. I don’t imagine the apps themselves take too much space. The song files for IReal pro will be small, they are like text files in a certain format that tell the app what to play. The only smart pianist files that would take up significant space would be any audio files you save on it (.wav files). The more memory the better (and with iPads you can’t add memory) but I’m sure 32 is prob ok

    Are charts you make printable?

    • @PianoTone

      You can print directly from the app or you can export to a PDF and email/save it somewhere else to print from.
