This is awesome, exactly what I was looking for. Did a gig last week with a singer for the first time using iReal Pro. If only I had seen your video before! Thanks so much.
Very helpful Dan. I've owned iReal Pro for a long time but only recently started using it as one of my sources for jazz backing tracks. With the info in your videos, I finally feel like I have a pretty good handle on editing.
@@DanBakerMusic totally agree! I'm a student of piano as well as bass and it's a great practice guide and I would imagine for gigs too the way you showed it. Please keep up the content I really dig this channel and your work.
I found the no count in that comes in handy I use guitar pro 8 which now has audio tracks for transcribing learning jazz standards at the same time coming up with my own progressions this app is awesome
Thank you what would it the procedure to add a second page to a song and making sure will articulate 1st coda second coda and some back to the sign and to the end? Like in one of those chick corea and wine shorther tunes? Thanks
Hello, I thought about a way to slow down at the end of the tune, say 2 last bars for example. I never found! Do you have an idea? Thank you for this interesting video.
Thanks. This is really helpful. But I notice the help in the editor is quite skimpy. Is there full documentation any where? All I've been been able to find is on fragmented topics.
i am new with notes and theory.. but what i see on ireal pro, is that just the backing track, or is this what we should play in the tempo that ireal pro shows on the app?.. or is that not the case.. and we ought to just improvise? or is it a song and we need to follow and play those in the app? or is that only for backingtrack . because i dont understand those if i have to play them.. but if i dont have to bother that and its just for backing tracks then it will be more easie for me . but im not sure i also have that i see rhe chords or chord scale but i still dont know what is what in those things because its notes instead of tab only. but idk how or if i can use it at all right now .. only as backing track (hope my english is to follow)
I tried to creat a song, Arms of Mary by the Sutherland brothers. Got about 2/3 the way through and couldn’t add any more chords, seems there is a limit to the number of chords you can have on a page and you can only have one page per song. I was going to use it as a backing track, I played around with the styles instruments and mix. It sounded pretty good by the time I’d finished, shame I couldn’t complete the song !
If you put a time signature at the beginning, a bar need only be the length of a single beat, provided there’s only one chord in that bar. If you put two chords in one bar, one beat each, it’ll play two beats per bar. I realised this after trying to program an entire song. Just started again. Worth the hassle though! There’s also the “S” button which you use on the first chord that makes the writing smaller so it all fits, albeit tight!
@@DanBakerMusic Massive thanks...Ran out of space, as above, trying to input 'What's Going On'. There's a version uploaded by someone else which goes wrong, doesn't follow the progression after a bit over half way through... Now, with the time sig at 4/4 & just 2 spaces per bar I've got the whole tune down! The times in the past I'd given up due to lack of space are countless so, again, thank you! 👍😊
I love the app, but there’s really no reason the sounds can’t “knock us out”. They really need to work on the sound quality of the instruments. No excuses anymore for low quality sounds. There are plenty of freeware multi samples and sound fonts that could be used.
Yes totally. The app has been designed well and I’m sure slotting in new sounds of making a MIDI out that can then play GarageBand sounds would be a plus. I know you can export iReal as a MIDI file, but it would be nice to keep it within the app...
I’ve heard it and yes it is good. It’s a shame however that the “in app purchases” mean you have to buy the tunes. That is, in my view, pretty tight and unnecessary. At least with iReal pro, any tune is available via the forums. I think that’s why it’s still so popular as an app, a decade later...
From a copyright perspective, rhyhm and chords changes.don"t define a copyrighted "tune" - the melody and lyrics do. That's why iReal Pro doesn't have to pay licensing, but the Hal Leonard Real Books and other published lead sheets formats do. They contain the melodies and sometimes lyrics.
Understood, but what if there is a pandemic and only a solo musician permitted, as in my hospital gigs? Yes iReal Pro is far from ideal as a live tool, but as long as it is mixed lower than the solo, it can be good...

Excellent. Just what I was looking for. Even All of Me is the same song I was working on! Thanks Dan.
iLove iReal. It has been extremely helpful to me for many years. I run it on an old 1st gen iPad. Primo!
It certainly has stood the test of time!
Thank you very much, this helped me in my moment of need!
Best ireal tutorioal😀
I love this app. Best money spent.
Isn’t it just. I’ve had many gigs where this has proved invaluable...

If everyones drinking at the cocktail hour the five measures of e minor wont matter!!! :). great video and excellent playing too!!
Thank you very much...so useful.
Glad it helped!

Oh dude , i love your sense of humour 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤
Nice info by you, how to write half bar chord in this chart in 4/4 time
can you disable the count in when I export the wave I would like not to have count in on
Help please !!! I do not find the ABC area in my macbook. No problem on my phone.
Thanks. This is really helpful. But I notice the help in the editor is quite skimpy. Is there full documentation any where? All I've been been able to find is on fragmented topics.
I plan to do a full tutorial on this as it is very very good when all the features come out!
What I mean is in 4/4 time in song if comes half bar chord so how to write ???? In this chord chart

Thanks this has really helped go to the next level! Where is the “Break” button at?
Cheers Virgil. The break button is within the ABC button where you input chords. You should then find it under the drop down menu..
nice, thx!
Thank you so much !!!!!!
Hi Dan how do you change the colour for the A,B sections and the time signatures etc I see yours are in red thanking you in advance Harry
It’s possible to have up to 3 or 4 pages on the same song?
Hi there-no this isn’t possible. You have to get creative with repeat marks and codas, etc…

Ireal is good. Mapping tonal harmony is better.

Very cool!! What amp are you using for your guitar?
the editor is so confusing
It is at first but persevere: it’s actually excellent!
What’s easy on this? of gettin’ rid of a click? solving a Rubik’s Kube seems easier. c’mon bro.
It does take some getting used to, like any app or program, but when you know where everything is, it does become very flexible...
It’s a great practice tool, but I personally don’t want to hear anyone playing along with a machine. That’s not live music.
