    I always hate trying to cram a Strat pickup back in. There's always one wire that wants to pop out of its channel and push the pickguard up.

      Wayne Kramer of MC5, David Gilmour were both experimenting with HB Strats in the early '70's. Allan Holdsworth a bit later among others.
      Lots of us tried it during the '60's too, there's a picture somewhere of my Strat in 1970 with the angled HB in the bridge position. Couldn't play fershit though and still can't 😄

    That guitar has been Frankensteined several times in its life. It had a MIDI hex pickup (Roland, etc.) on it at some point. That explains the weird screw holes behind the bridge pickup and that extra hole near the bottom strap button. Nice repair as usual!

    Hey Dave, when you’re checking relief with the little flat gauge on the 7th or 8th fret, what kind of “feel” are you looking for? That it doesn’t touch or rub the fret at all,? It’s hard for me to tell when I have the right measurement. I can tell there’s space and it’s not getting heavy resistance but
    everything in between is questionable for me

    • @dickr9345
      @dickr9345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The way you worded it is pretty much what you're looking for. It shouldn't push the string up really, but it shouldn't feel super loose in the gap either.
      It's kinda hard to describe. Like Dave says, "that why they're called FEELer gauges, you gotta feel it"

    I dig the "Wayne Kramer "SHS mod, so you gotta customize guards, but WTF not replace the PG and the POS humbucker for $100? Hate to see an actual Fender torn up like this; correcting those couple things will at least give it some resale, - or is the intention to destroy it the rest of the way before he dies?
    I get it ain't vintage, but damn.
    There is a standard height at the nut, correct? It seems like I've been playing a lot of new guitars that are cut really low,- really better as high as possible, without ruining intonation.Could be wrong, but it works for me.
    Got a Squier( mostly for the body) from the local pawn ($35)that someone ghetto jacked just like this; humorously, the HB was a $200 , Custom Shop Antiquity.( with the worn gold plating)
