  • This furious caller rants to Shelagh about the "invasion" of immigrants in the UK.
John, who now lives south of London, said "the referendum was about immigration."
"We've always been used to immigration," he exclaimed, "but you haven't had it like an invasion like has come up the North."
John continued that he "did not welcome" the amount of foreign people in service roles, like in hotels and restaurants.
Shelagh asked if foreign people were removed from these roles and asked to leave the country, "do you accept that some businesses would fail because they didn't have enough staff? Some shops would close because they didn't have enough staff? That hospitals would have even fewer people working on busy nights in winter in A&E?"
John replied: "If you removed all them people like you said, there'd be nowhere near the population that needs to be served."

She was complaining today that the NHS was overwhelmed. We're having kids at below birth rate, the NHS funding is at record highs and life expectancy hasn't moved that much since the 70s. We can't import the number of people in Newcastle every year forever and expect to be able to keep up. No one is suggesting sending people home, but nice straw man. Slow immigration until we have enough houses built and the NHS can catch up. By the way, reducing the volume of unskilled workers increases wages for the low paid.

And a reduction in low skilled labour also means more training so that said person can carry more responsibility to cover the required tasks, it's a win/win.
As for birth rates, population goes up and down all the time, single child families pass on more inheritance and that one child can then afford a home to raise a family swings and round abouts.
Using the birth rate is just other strawman.

    • @andylewis7360
      @andylewis7360 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ZenosOsgorma Really don’t know what point you’re trying to make. We’re talking about Fertility Rate, which needs to be above 2.1 to replace current population and which, below 1.3 gives an irrecoverable downward trend. No population has ever recovered from a fertility rate below 1.3.
Your training win/win presupposes that the person in question is willing and able to benefit from training. If the average immigrant were skilled or at least intelligent then Britain might benefit from their presence but I fear that comparatively few immigrants from such countries as Somalia or Pakistan would make adequate training candidates. What’s more. it’s more likely that they would impede the training process, so their presence would actually make matters worse.

    • @ZenosOsgorma
      @ZenosOsgorma 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@andylewis7360 and you are assuming what if's, of course there will always be people that won't benifit from extra training.
And yes the fertility rate people don't need to worry, considering those that prosper will end up having more kids than their parents.
It is what wellbeing does, if you have the means to raise a family without government support they will have more kids, this includes the work life balance etc
Compared to now our work hours are inconsistent, low pay and job retention is at a all time low so of course people are not going to want kids in such a situation.
If you don't see my point about stability leading to higher birthrates.
As for the migration issue, people need to realise you can not control what goes on at a individual level, you must simply provide the policy that facilitates the opportunity, it will always be up to the individual to take advantage of that, that is their freedom to choose to accept extra training or not.
It is not up to a employer or company to dictate weather or not a person is suited for training because that defeats the purpose of training. (this attitude needs to change because it has brought around this requirement of 2 years experience even before getting the job position that the said person could very well be capable of carrying out)

ZenosOsgorma Are you using Google translate to make your comments? The words are English but the diction and punctuation are all over the place. Your only point that’s coherent is that people tend to have more children as their standard of living increases and I’m afraid that that isn’t true. People tend to have far more children if they’re in a position where they can’t really afford them. They tend to have fewer children as their income increases unless the income is considerably higher than average. Put simply, only the very rich and the very poor tend to have more than two children.

I don't care about where someone is coming from but how they behave to me, to others, to society, if they work diligently or just waste time if they are friendly or rude, selfless or egoistic, criminal or lawful, caring or ignorant.
UK's problems with work poverty and simple daily survival matters made them protective of themselves and their families, egoistic and uncaring for others to protect what little they have left in life and I can't blame anyone of them for that, but getting rid of immigrants is not solving the issues and neighter is getting rid of the EU, the problem is the impovering policies of the government and the distribution of wealth in the country. Anti-Immigrant behaviour would not be an issue if people would have less or no anxiety about their own future.

We (Western Europe, Americas etc.) are being transitioned into low-wage centrally governed economic blocs. Our elites no longer need large patriotic standing armies, and labour can simply be outsourced or brought in cheaply from poorer blocs. We were always peasants and serfs to these people, so consequences to local culture, civil cohesion and general safety are utterly irrelevant. Take a look for lord Green on the subject.

Immigrants like everybody else have basic needs - a place to live, a means of transport, bathroom privileges, food, places of recreation ..... and the list goes on. The employers want immigrants to fill jobs at rock bottom wages, with no employee benefits, so that they can maximize their profits, The same employers accept no responsibility for infrastructure costs knowing that they will be met by the public purse. These greedy employers make the point that native British don't want these jobs. - could that be because they simply won't work long hours in back-breaking jobs for chump change wages ? Immigration per se is fine - but it must be commensurate with the ability to provide the concomitant increases in infrastructure. This should be obvious.

I think some of the push for immigration is ideological as well as economic.
Labour insiders have pretty much admitted that part of why the party pushed mass-immigration so hard was to effectively rub multiculturalism in the far-right's noses (ironically in the process they made a lot of Brits who weren't right-wing or opposed to multiculturalism beforehand, a lot moreso after).
The leaders of the Green Party in Sweden (part of the coalition government) indulge a lot of performative weeping over how they should continue their moral duty to let in as many Third Worlders to their Welfare State as possible.
However, I do think inevitably having a consumerist society, there is always going to be the push for importing new consumers to create more demand. I have heard someone in Sweden say that also even when immigrants are brought in to live on welfare, by keeping the unemployment figures high, it apparently helps keep inflation levels low.
So it seems to be an alliance of the worst agendas pushing the destruction of Western societies.

I can relate to the feeling of being "invaded". It does feel like that more and more these days. It's hard when the numbers of foreigners are growing so fast. And I'm not convinced by the economic argument. Firstly, there are some things more important than money, and preserving our cultural heritage and maintaining a sense of community and national identity may well be among them. But secondly, if there were no foreigners and the native population is decreasing, then wouldn't that mean we'd have a surplus of stuff; empty houses and roads etc, which would mean the prices would drop. There'd be less demand on the NHS too.

The guys problem is he cannot properly understand or express his issue but he knows it is real.
The ISSUE is Britain's workers are being undercut by immigrants. There is no problem with businesses being able to afford to pay better. Germany can afford German waiters.
Spain can afford Spanish Bar staff. France can afford French hotel receptionists.
Thats the point he is near to expressing.
But those countries all use the euro.
East european workers come here because the £ buys them 29% more euro's and a house near sophia for e.g. costs 30K euros.
British biz owners say 'I CANT GET THE STAFF! translation; ...('for the money'..)
THEY WORK SO MUCH HARDER! Course they do, its 3 times the wage back home.
If a house here was 24K sterling there would be keen brits wanting to wait tables for £8 plus tips.
There are 4 indy restaurants from 50-250 seats in my local high street (as well as the chains) and mostly they are empty.Including a curry house next door to the wetherspoons!!
But I see the cars the owners drive, and some exotic sportsters among them I tell you.
If they had to pay decent wages one would close and the other 4 would put prices up.
The 'staff shortages' is a myth here. They would have to stop b/s ing the populace and pay up.
If the biz isnt viable with U.K. workers they should open it in Sophia.
Its an old old excuse same as farming.
Check out the price of a punnet and tell me why strawberry pickers get min wage for picking 2000 + an hour? Its supply line theft and old scam b/s.

The UK increases it's population by the size of the city of Birmingham every 3 years, are we building cities like Birmingham every 3 years to accommodade them - no, this is why infrastructure is being stretched to unnaceptable levels, for over a decade now 60% of the UK has concerns about immigration, every Question Time every week for over a decade there is always the "what are you going to do about immigration" question from the audience and it should be obvious by now that the answer is - nothing from either a Labour or a Tory government.
Gordon Browns active mic gaffe with Gillian Duffy sums it up perfectly - "some bigoted woman" - this is what anyone voicing concerns over immigration is smeared as and is the default attitude of most of the Westminster bubble, things might be different if it was hordes of third rate politicians that were being massed in.

Public services are stretched because of government cuts..(you've heard of austerity?) for the last 10 years you numpty. They're asking the care workers to come back, they are severe shortages in the NHS. There are shortages in the hospitality industry, seasonal farm workers, slaughterhouses. Where the people who were saying 'They're taking our job.
Why aren't the locals applying for this jobs
..because they'd rather draw the dole thats why
