I am really surprised to read that you don't do this professionally... your work is stunning, and it's a joy to watch you creating. I just watched a short tutorial about holding flat brushes more vertically, and here you are producing much better work without doing that. Your vids are a big inspiration to me. Massive love and respect for your art man.
Joe Garcia Thank you very much. I do hold the brush vertically for certain strokes or styles. I tend to use the brush more like a pen. It works for me but may not work well for others. Thanks again!
Beautiful work! Watching your videos is very inspiring for me....I've decided to get back into calligraphy after a very long hiatus learning to master the airbrush. So I just got three of the Pilot parallel pens to start with, so far I find them far easier to use than the old dip pens with Speedball nibs. I also got a couple of glass pens (never had one of these before) and ordered some more ink colors--I gotta get some of that Dr. Ph. Martin's bleedproof white....I still have a bunch of Dr. Martin's radiant watercolors, maybe 30 years old and almost all are still good--I tried some in one of my glass pens and it worked great! And I got some Arches hot-pressed watercolor paper to do real projects with. I've watched a number of your videos and am subscribed. What strikes me most about your work is you seem to have a somewhat loose style, kind of less rigid or formal than most calligraphy....which I want to adapt because I think it would compliment my airbrushing work particularly on hand-painted greeting cards and envelopes. Combined with gold leaf and pearl pigment powders--I have some really cool color-shifting pearls that I haven't tried yet. My user pic above was airbrushed on a 5" x 7" envelope, just a minor example. Anyway, keep up the great work, I can't wait for the next inspirational video!
Wow! I love your videos! you are very talented. I learned some calligraphy in my coujntry some years ago and I never practice again. I never forget basics, but your letters and details are stunning. Very impressive! I am learning a lot watching your videos... Thank you!
Wow amazing work! How long does it take to be such a perfectionist? Are you writing this without a preparatory drawing and how often do you write the same word etc.?
+Lea Füglein Thank you. I don't use prep drawings but I do practice what I want to write quite a bit before I film it; trying different styles and techniques. Some styles work better for some words than others so there's a bit of experimentation that goes on to prepare.
Jenna Kenna I don't do it professionally, although I'd like to. At the moment it's just a hobby. I've use The Calligrapher's Bible. Some places to find good examples are Google images, Pinterest, Flikr, Behance.
