  • Before finding out I'm dyslexic, I thought dyslexia just meant you write letters backwards.
Here is the study I found to make this video:
    www.dyslexiasupportservices.c...
    audio books?: amzn.to/4bCJmQe
Did you notice that the video part of question 10 looks very different? I completely skipped question 10 when recording, lol. I filmed it as I edited. 🤣🤣🤣
Also, while researching for this video, I came across a great ch "Arije-Aike de Haas" ( @ArijeAikedeHaas ). He did a video on the same test before I did.

I am 61 and have learnt to be with my strengths. I go into things knowing that it will take me longer than most. The stick I get for being clear about this. Iv'e just started collage to learn 'Spanish for absolute beginners'. I had no idea they would be into writing & reading out loud to the class. I write too slow to comprehend what is being said on top of trying to copy from the board 'especially with the teachers hand writing'. I said clearly that I would opt.-out of one task today only to be told that I couldn't. I don't know my months of the year & was in my late teens before I knew all the days of the week. I am a specialist at fault finding & am employed as both an emergency plumber & electrician. The boss knows my abilities. Clients are regally very smart people & many are even engineers. They are amazed to see how I work. I tell them if they are interested my process as I conduct a series of tests or solutions. Feel both blessed & cursed.

Was just evaluated for ADHD last month and will get the diagnosis this week. I'm starting ot realize she will probably diagnose m with Dyslexia, too. My mother did have me evaluated(30 minute interview) for Dyslexia at 5 yrs old, but the guy said I was normal and that I was right handed... I'm very Left handed. I'm 45 yrs old!

Buy some yerba mate tea. It will help you. I am a certified dyslexic. Yerba mate 🧉 will give you Lazer focus and calm your mind. I have 2 bags 4 pounds of yerba mate coming from Amazon. Yerba mate is harvest from the Amazon jungles of Latin America. Very popular in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. They are also very thin and healthy people. This tea is good for the body mind and brain. If you would like to keep in touch I can tell you more later. Via comments. A shame that very few people do not know of yerba mate and depriving themselves of this foundation of youth tea...

I’m 70 back when I was in school we were just called retards in fact at 12 years old my parents thought I should be institutionalized for fear of not being able to take care of myself. I work 57 years raised to children on my own without a dime of child support or any support from anyone. But if you look at failure as education I’ve had one hell of an education.. ADHD,SCT. Dyslexic. other than that I assure you I am quite normal whatever normal is. YOU WILL NEVER LOSE YOU EITHER WIN OR LEARN.

I'm in my 60s and I'm dyslexic. I scored 6. Now my brother, two years older than me, was too ill to start 1st grade so he missed the year. My mother wanted to teach him to read and ended up teaching me as well. I learned to read at 4, started reading adult level at 2nd grade, and became a speed reader. Years later I was talking to my Mom and realized she didn't read the way I did. She read the words, I read in blocks. I don't think I would have learned to read if my brother wasn't ill that year. My brother and I are speed readers, and my younger brother wasn't taught to read by my Mom, is a very slow reader who doesn't enjoy books. I know my younger brother and I are dyslexic and I think my older brother is as well. We can learn to read fast and we can learn to read well but we will always read differently. Thank you for the video.

I think i just realised i might have Dyslexia i have like 10 of those symptoms . Back then being a child the teacher just thought i was slow minded, dumb and stuff cuz i couldn't answer a simple maths question . The teacher used to say that i should be doing gardening because im not good at education and i spent my whole life thinking i was dumb and slow than the others. Now im 25 and figuring out i might actually be dyslexic and makes more sense why im also slow at writing and understanding anything to do with maths and reading ajd when i talk to people is like i confuse the words. i always had a teacher to help me read in school on exams and in class sometimes. And As im and adult now i forgot more often and confuse things when travelling on transport which triggers my anxiety and stuff.

The worst thing is I answered yes to 7 of these questions but am too broke to afford an official diagnosis so I just have to deal with it. I guess the things that affect me the most are my horrible time management + getting lost following written instructions + bad at memorizing and just being really bad talking. I often end up in embarrassing situations (like having to look at my phone number on my phone anytime someone asks it) and wish I could just pull up the dyslexia card so that I don’t have to get into the awkward conversation where I usually say something along the lines of “ah yes I’m bad at memorizing things, sorry about that”

    • @headd

I've heard from a few people including a consoler that you don't need an official diagnosis. Self diagnosing is valid in most cases.

I'm probably borderline. But I notice that when I'm tired that I tend to show more of these symptoms. Sometimes in a humourous way. One time while shopping, I misread "Giant Art Playset" as "Giant Rat Playset".
That said, I never memorised my multiplication table. But I also never saw the point. If you can do the math in your head, then why bother?

I’ve been diagnosed 3 times in my life, ages 12 at school, 19 at university and 34 at work. And the first one called me “textbook dyslexic” the middle one was kinda rude I didn’t even get the paperwork. But the last one before he even studied my results, at all, he said “well, you’re obviously dyslexic”. I’m an obvious textbook dyslexic.
That’s all to say, I said yeah and laughed at every single one of these 😂 it’s frustrating how people think it’s only reading though, or words moving around that’s my most hated myth.

I hit 10 out of 12, and I went to be tested twice, but both times, I was told that I wasn't dyslexic. I think I am twice exceptional. My coping mechanisms hide my difficulties. In the first test, I had below-average intelligence but had no diagnosis of dyslexia, and in the second one, I had above-average intelligence but no dyslexia. The tester said I must be lying about my abilities because I could do grade-level work. Good grief, which one is it?!

Hurray, I'm only barely dyslexic. I only get tripped by "county" and "country" pretty much all the time, but otherwise, word mismatch is only a small problem that I am able to correct later, when the sentence begins to make no sense.

I answered Yes to 9 of them! My mother discovered I was dyslexic before pre-school. My father had D too. When my mom saw that I had the same issues spelling/reading (visual) has my dad, she took steps to help me. If it weren't for her, I would have had a really hard time in school. I went to school long before testing was available.

I am a very slow reader, I cannot memorize anything, I cannot remember names of people, places, and things. I am 76 yro and it is getting worse. I am constantly misspelling words. I tend to do things backwards and have to correct myself. I was tested as borderline genius when I was in college, but not for dyslexia. Once I began taking advanced courses in college, I could not handle the workload. I was drafted into the US ARMY in 1968 after achieving 75 credit hours.

This video came up pretty random. I’ve been diagnosed with inattentive adhd. I’m not a good reader. Unless I read out loud, I forget everything and my eyes started focusing on the empty pathways that run through the words made by spaces. I have also had managers tell me, “I know it’s in there, you just have a hard time getting it out.” Which… I stammer and can’t get the right word. I also mix words and names up that I put in similar categories, like Nolan and Logan or Jennifer and Jessica. Should I be looking at dialects and would the techniques help me with stammers anyway?

    • @headd
      @headd  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I can say the months, but can't say which ones correspond to what numbers outside of January, February and December. October feels....nine-ish, or ten-ish, something around there. April is....sixish since it's kind of in the middle somewhere. If I fill in a date, and the sequence is day, month, year, I need to secretly count on my fingers for the days and months, and probably need to check the year 50% of the time. Days I can do so quick nobody notices, but months it's pretty obvious. Left and right for me are horrible. Tell me to go left, I will go right, every time. Reading I can do quite quickly, but it's really tiring and I never read for pleasure. Times tables - I remember sitting on the couch crying my eyes out as a kid, my poor mom drilling me with flash cards and I just couldn't remember them, no matter how much we practiced. Evens are ok up to maybe 6, but 6 x 7? No clue. 7x9? Nope, can't tell you. Bus thing for sure. And temporary passcodes for logging into apps, my own pin numbers for bank cards, my phone number, my kid's birthdays, my wife's birthday - thank god for my phone calendar. I remember doing math exams in high school and I'd look at the number written on the paper, say it to myself, and by the time I moved my pencil 1cm over to the side to do the working calculation, the number had floated away and scrambled itself. 3456 became 3546 and 6s and 8s are both even numbers with round shapes, like little snowmen, so now the number is 3548. 10 would become 01, 32 becomes 23 the moment I look away. That whole process would take less than a second, like a slot machine scrambling the numbers. Spellcheck, apps and careful notes keep me alive.
