    I was finally diagnosed at 71 with both ADHD and dyslexia. It was and is a huge relief to start understanding my learning / comprehension of whatever it is I'm reading, writing, or watching. Thank you so much. I also appreciate the length of the videos you present.

    This is my biggest problem since I was a child every time that my teacher or someone is telling something I'm really focusing on it. But yes it's not really sinking in my mind. Or sometimes it takes time for me to process it. Then I'm missing other information that is being told to me or what is being discussed. I ended up not being able to finish college now I'm having difficulties finding a job. Still having difficulties on what interview on training. It takes time for me to master my job . Most of the people are laughing at me. I hate it.

    As a dyslexic who was diagnosed from a young age I believe 7 I was never told that I would experience these things I was always told it was purely about my ability to read and stay focused in school. And now as a young adult 21 trying to explain to my parents all these issues that I’ve been having for my whole life and them rejecting it has been very hard. But it’s very helpful to me to remember times where all of these things have effected me even in the past year. Thank you for making a concise understandable list that I can give to people who don’t understand what it’s like having dyslexia as an adult (or even a kid)

      Same! I was diagnosed when I was 9. I also only got the explanation that it explained my difficulty in reading and writing and that was the only thing I got help with. Basically as soon as I was on a somewhat normal level (still struggle with little things but it is not that obvious anymore) it was kind of assumed that I had outgrown dyslexia. But I always had the feeling that something was off with me. I spacing out a lot, I confuse similar sounding words and names, and I struggle to work on things in a chronological order...But all this was just always dismissed as my "personality" and my parents and some friend have dismissed it when I tried to explain to them how much I struggle with this. It helps me a lot to finally be able to have the explanation why I'm like this and that it's not just personal flaws of mine.

    I have recently realized that my 8 year old son does not just have ADHD but has dyslexia too. All I can say is "it's not easy at all" for both of us.😢

    This is amazing. I’m 99% sure I am severely dyslexic. I just got into insurance industry and boy o boy was that a roller coaster. But the moment of brilliance and ability to be hyper focused is spot on. I am in day 5 of figuring out I am dyslexic, and everything just makes sense and I always thought I was terribly strange and my mind was so
    Different. I never knew dyslexia was about information processing. I was under the impression it was strictly about words jumbling. I am
    So excited to figure out my brain 🧠 better.

    the company I work for has a number of clients, some of whom allow me do do things in my own way and some of whom insist I follow there exact process. Its no exaduration to say I get 10 times more done in the same time and to a higher quality when allowed to do it my way.

    I'm looking for my daughter, ways to help her. I was 'hyperlexic' so didn't realise that I had a problem with stuff like this, until I was looking into helping her with her visual / reading comprehension! I didn't realise how poor my own listening comprehension was, as hers is phenomenal! I can read and spell - but its so dependent on how much stress I am under and how much time I have. I also can't get my ideas on paper - really hoping this could be a lens to deliver the results that I would love to be able to share - as well as the ideas.

    Genuinely shocked, I struggled with all of these, all of my life. I was diagnosed with dyslexia since around 10, but only really know that I would have difficulty reading, writing, etc, but no one explained that there may be other things on top of that.

And why my supervisor becomes frustrated with me especially with my grammar… thank you. I know this is an older video so I look forward to learning more…

    I can relate to all these, but no-one has suggested I am dyslexic. (Despite a couple of other quirks I won't bore you with). I just assume everyone has quirks, OK, some a lot more than others, but is it really helpful to have these labels? When you get to know people they are all a bit odd.

    I was equated back in 1992 and I hit 95% of the qualifiers but I trained my brain to learn like others. This vid explains a lot. Plus, throw addiction in the mix. Lol. I still struggle to under the purpose of things that come naturally to others.

    Recently I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was talking with a friend of mine who’s child also has ADHD..after a while she suggested I look into the possibility of being dyslexic. She must have recognized the signs because this is me to a T! It’s a shame the psychological examiner didn’t think to text for other commonly co-occurring disorders.

    • @TruthAboutDyslexia
      @TruthAboutDyslexia  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      40-50% of people who have ADHD also have Dyslexia so it is very common indeed. Unfortunately the medical professionals compartmentalise way too much usually.

    Ive always had a child like dreaming and I’m only 70. Nice to know that I’m not the only one with dyslexia, all the research that is happening. I’m loosing my thoughts what I want to say
    Just one sentence can take a while to type, then when I’m on a roll nothing stops me it just flows. For years I new that I was someone different to most of others, the main stream.
    Fortunately my good wife helps me out with spelling and grammar. We are chalk and cheese, may be that’s why we’ve still together for 52 years. I’ve written half a book on tramping but I get stuck and loose the plot what I’m trying to say
    I know I keep changing my thinking and sometime try and get back on track. I’m a builder and that is just s process that keeps me on track. I find if its someone else’s list I have no problems following it. If its mine I can find that I wonder and forget
    Cheers have a great day

      I’ve heard some horror stories about dyslexic people back in the day. Severe/moderate dyslexia and linked conditions run in my family and for that reason my father, my grandmother and her mother before her dropped ont of school. They essentially got hit every day over spelling and reading.
      I’m dyslexic too, as a kid I really struggled. I couldn’t read at all till I was 6, couldn’t speak more than 3 words till I was 4. Couldn’t spell my own name till I was 14, and I wasn’t hit in school but teachers did bully me and insult me every day. I have serious lack of trust for anyone who has been or is a teacher in my mind they are all cruel and judgmental. Almost fear them even at 34….

    How to ensure I won't take what you have to say seriously: speak as if our brains are literally split down the middle. As if the brain is not actually a complex organ with multiple different parts that must work together for everyday function.
    Next you'll be saying we only use 10% of our brains at any given time.

    Why is dyslexia now seeming like a mental disorder? I have it but no one ever explaines this to me, these are just my bpd qualities. Then i have adhd and maybe aspbergers? Mental health, as important as it is, it seems less and less real. I guess nothing can be so binary anymore. Its all just a cruch from fear

    • @brigittastone-johnson7683
      @brigittastone-johnson7683 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is because dyslexic is a way your brain is wired ( how you think is different than ‘typical’) sometimes this will come with other divergences, like you might also have ADHD, or You may be autistic and so on. It’s not a disorder but rather a neurological diversity. (Neurodivergent)
