What do ya'll think? Stick to one niche, or make videos about whatever the hell you want? 🧐💅🏼 PS: check out my updated video on this topic: th-cam.com/video/v8ebsr8jZ3w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HOi3Rm2yqxd-i0uD
I just shared my views on your previous video on same topic... I would like to make videos about various things on my single channel only... I feel a lot like how u described urself on TH-cam... My personality is my niche... Please guide me... I sometimes start feeling very sad when my videos don't get good views... I can observe that even ur videos have very less views... If I compare ur views with no. of subscribers, mathematically ur this video got only 1℅ of views of ur total subscribers in 1 week.. I feel that too is very low..... I think the same happens with me... I have 400 subscribers at present, and I feel that only 1℅ of them actually watch any of my video seriously... But isn't this percent too low?
One tactic you could try is seeing which videos seem to be performing better than others, and doing more of that kind of content. You could also try making different style of thumbnails, something simple and eye catching with a clean design that sticks out. The simpler the better! Not every video will perform the same. I also find that many of my older videos which didn’t do well initially will get many more views from searches as time goes by. Be patient and consistent with your video quality! I have some videos posted years ago which still receive a good amount of views!
Actually I'm very confuse to select the correct niche for my channel because I love Technology, Movies and Web Shows, Anime, Cosmos, Facts, Gaming. Please help me🙏
Sticking to a niche helps the algorithm like you mentioned, but I don't think it helps the creator as much in the long run. My music reactions are the only videos the algorithm picks up, but I get insanely bored sticking to that niche and I don't believe it would lead to massive "success" either. The most popular TH-camrs are watched for personality, people usually could care less what PewDiePie is playing or watching. So in my opinion, if you're a creator who believes you have a strong personality, you should leverage that to branch outside your niche. Though I do suspect it'll take a much longer time to catch on haha
i ended up making two channels: one for gaming and one for more personal topics. idk, it just feels right to me. and they're both fairly new, but i dont care. it makes me feel good and realistic to me 🤷♀️
I have two channels. One with a niche and one without one, just me. The niche channel is a side project, teaching people a language. The other one is my passion project. The niche channel is growing like crazy even though I'm almost never uploading, cause two videos went semi viral. The other one is on a plateau, because people don't like a mix of things. But I do. So yeah, I'm going to keep this up. Because I hate niches and I seen how bad niches are creatively on my other channel. It feels almost like a job!
Don't worry about having a niche, but do worry about having a clear value proposition that your audience can expect to get from your content. If you go too willy nilly with what value your delivering, people won't stick and you won't grow.
@@b3naqua I heard different nich content sufferd for monitization .. is it true ??? Then How can u do it ??? Is you face any prolem in monitize ??????
I started out posting random videos I thought could help people as I worked on my house and cars. I'm now up to 200 videos combined in both niches, and growth has been very slow and steady; based on limited responses to a poll, most people are not interested in both niches. Granted, I finally made significant changes last year, including appearing on camera, posting to social media, improving thumbnails, and using more effective tags. Upload consistency could be better, but some videos still get very few views while others do well; I believe it's because the subscriber base is split between the two niches. Playlists and color coordinated thumbnails to differentiate between the two niches haven't seemed to matter much. I've wrestled recently with whether I should create a second channel or focus on just one niche. TH-cam is a great creative outlet, but the reality is that most people, unless you have a very charismatic personality or a unique hook, are best served to stick to one niche for strong, consistent growth. It may work to have more than one niche if they are closely related, but I would strongly and honestly consider the viewer if growth is important.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Lots of interesting points. I agree - sticking a consistent and clearly defined niche will probably increase growth faster. I still wonder how far I can stretch my channel sometimes topics-wise.
I'm really struggling with this right now. It actually stopped me from starting a channel for ever cause I just don't want to only make videos about only one thing. I'm doing this cause I love making stuff and the thought of only making vids about a single thing depresses me. I think I would start to feel like a salesmen if I was just making reviews, and I want to make content about my van, but i don't want to have a "vanlife" channel. I think I have no choice but to just make a "me" channel and hope it resonates with folks. I'm trying not to focus on the numbers at the start and just focus on making stuff. Love your channel.
Thanks Nolan! The dilemma is real, but it sounds like you're leaning towards creating a "me" channel and putting all your different types of content on there. Go for it! Experiment with it as much as possible, and you'll see what you're naturally drawn to as you make each video.
Man, we are the same human. I haven't went all in on TH-cam because I generally love so many things but have been so worried that a channel with multiple niches, or atleast no specific niche, would completely flop. My brain can not just settle into 1. A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often time better than a master of 1. Here's to the future.
I can totally relate! What it comes down to for me is: what feels exciting and interesting, how can I make the content unique & memorable, and how can barriers to creation be minimized? Enjoy the process as much as possible and experiment!
Digging this approach to creating. I'm also a musician and photographer, but also like to make random things that don't really "fit" anywhere. You've helped me confirm to go with the "make videos about whatever the hell I want" model!
Thank you so much for sharing this Ben! The main reason I've been procrastinating with starting my YT channel is that I have many interests and things that I like to learn and talk about. And I felt that if I started my channel I needed to chose a topic that I could be consistent with. But also being a creative my mind doesn't fixate on one topic. It's all over the place, like you said. However, a buddy of mine said my niche is travel. I agree but I'm also passionate about other things as well. But this video definitely gave me some clarity. I like that you statement authenticity = "success". That's what I'm all about authenticity! I don't want to create content just to get a silver play button. I want to create content to express my creativity, inform/make people smarter, and just genuinely help them. Like what you're video did for me. Now it's just time to start pumping out content. I feel like it's been long over due. Excellent video! Subscribed!
Totally agree with you Ben. I think what you're going for the is "personality", "celebrity" brand. In my mind I had a hunch that this is what the TH-camrs who advocate one channel would say, and you've just confirmed it after multiple other videos I just watched about having multiple channels. So here's what I've found including the content from your video: - People who want to SELL something (maybe even 1 thing or 1 family of products), have multiple channels, one for each of these things or families. - People who want to SELL/showcase themselves and their viewpoints on different things, basically have 1 channel to market the person/style of opinions. Here are my own thoughts after reading the above two points I typed. Perhaps if we start with the 2nd, and then we find that one of our playlists is blowing up, like my music for example, or my videos on mental health, or even my book reviews, maybe double down on that type of content to grow the channel faster (if the aim is to grow the channel fast that is). Thanks so much man, I'm glad to know there are more people out there like me hahahaha.
As someone who has fallen into the photography niche and doesn't want to just do photography topics, this video resonates. And seeing you've still had growth is comforting
So glad the video resonated with you! Yah the growth is kind of slow, but steady. I think it's more important to create what we really are interested in, be consistent, and the crowd will follow.
Great video! I often think that having a really strict niche on TH-cam feels kinda weird. We all naturally have varied interests so why not share everything that we're passionate about as individuals
Channel 8 your channel is awesome! I’ve been a sub for a while 👏🏼👏🏼 but yah I feel you. I forgot to mention this in my video, but another pro of not having a niche is you can basically do whatever you want and not feel as confined to just do one thing to exhaustion. But the potential downside of that is it can feel overwhelming sometimes to come up with good content when the subjects are TOO broad and undefined, if that makes sense. I’d say maybe experiment with other types of content on your channel and see what sticks for you 👍🏼
I appreciate this video so much! Thank you for your authenticity. I'm a brand new TH-camr (buildingeverafter) and my channel is about building our family homestead and a slower way of living...but every video I watch on how to grow a channel talks about being trendy and flashy and all kinds of things that just aren't me...but I want to be successful! I've been feeling the struggle of finding that balance. So thank you. This gives me hope!
I had severe indecision with this for a long time. I think I seen your other video on this and subbed back then. I’m all over the place myself. I am a music creator, filmmaker and screenwriter. I still haven’t put much of my film stuff on there yet but plan to. Like Gary Vee says, You and your personality are the Niche
Ah thanks for subbing for so long! Agreed with the Gary Vee sentiment. His personality is so much of his niche, cuz he can really talk about anything and apply his knowledge to any subject. It’s always in his style.
This is me- musician, but now uploading music production tutorials to my music channel. Not sure if it'll be counterproductive in the long run, but I get way more views on my tutorials than my music videos 😁 Constantly debating a second channel hmm.. should i just keep it on one?
@@ryanreach3710 If they are both about music definitely keep one. You can always make playlists. Also you can show parts of your life or document your day as a musician. All that is your personal brand
@@jacksp8de Thanks that really makes sense. I just get worried if the average listener comes to hear me, then they'd get be like "what is an 1176 tutorial i don't care 😂" but I get it, I know an artist called Ramzoid that does that, like he documents how he makes songs, has some mixing tuts, and posts his original music. Still getting my head around this marketing thing. Appreciate the insight 🙏
@@b3naqua Agreed. I guess I'm just going to have to embrace myself, and I was back on this video 6 months later, just last night. Somehow didn't get a notification about your reply earlier, sorry about that!
Yea this is me, I was thinking it might be bad that my channel has different types of content, but at the same time I think it is a good thing in the long run
Yah I feel that. Keep pumping out and experimenting with different types of content and I think you'll naturally figure out what works/doesn't work for your process.
I’ve always wondered about this. I have many different things that I like, so I was like man do I ONLY have to talk about one thing on my TH-cam channel? Great video!
Just the video i was looking for. I am travel vlogger + a professional dj & music producer too + i have this urge to speak a lot of things out there to speak my mind out. Now i know what ill do. As you said i myself will be my own niche and brand . Under one channel only
I'm just starting out and really needed to hear this. 27 videos in, my channel feels pretty broad and I have tried to niche down in certain moments but a huge plus of making videos is that I don't feel trapped as I do at times working a 9-5 job. I'm going to keep following my heart at least until I gain enough subscribers to really know what brings the most value to my audience.
Hey Chris, I love how you worded this. That trapped feeling is one of the worst feelings we can have, especially on a diverse and expansive platform like TH-cam. Keep experimenting with different types of content and I think naturally you'll see what you really enjoy doing, and the most efficient/high quality/authentic way to make it happen. Keep it up!
Same. First time viewing Ben Aqua, subscribed and hit the 🔔 Still in the channel naming phase, have struggled w/ wanting to choose a name that addresses the multiple topics I hope to Cover, but love Ben’s idea of keeping name simple, easy to remember, easy to explain, and staying focused on a niche (at least to start), as long as the topics are things I’m genuinely interested in and are authentic to me, that’s the place to start…authenticity, my “personality is my niche”! 🔥👏🏻 Thank you, Ben!
Thank you for this video. I want to start a TH-cam channel for a really long time but I am interested in way too many things, and my interests changes around pretty fast. A lot of top TH-camrs are saying things like "You need to find your niche and stick to it!" and I've been kind of lost and discouraged. I think I will start my TH-cam channel when I move out from my family. Thank you so much for this advice, I can tell you're a really nice and genuine person. You have my subscription! Loving the M1 Mini series as well haha. Best of luck to you, Ben!
Ah thank you for the wonderful comment and for subbing to my channel! I think there is some truth to the "sticking to a niche" approach, but I think I'd burn out pretty quickly if I only did videos about one topic. If finding a niche is making you feel discouraged, I'd suggest creating content about whatever interests you, and I think over time you'll find your groove! Good luck!
I admire people who stick to only one very specific niche and be very consistent about it. One girl has a channel only about hair and shampoo. But her content reflects her personality
Also, i think staying to one ‘niche’ would only grow your subscribers fast but at the end of the day if you have somehow monetized the channel, the only things which would matter now is ‘views’. Just bring audience to your channel and videos that’s it. If they wanna subscribe your work would speak for that. So if you’re not really obsessed with the subscription number then it’s all good ☺️
this is the video for me. I can’t really stick to one thing so i wanted to find something to do everything that i’m interested in. though it will be the same style. and a whole category CREATIVITY period. so thank you. you gave me reassurance that i can do anything.
Great vid. Agree with everything. No-niche TH-cam channels are the way forward. All the biggest TH-camrs have no-niche channels. The audience is watching the brand of these TH-camrs. I have a no-niche channel but I don't think I have the personality or popularity necessary to blow up. But...I can still use TH-cam as a creative outlet for therapeutic reasons. Self-awareness, spirituality, growth, etc.
Ah thanks for saying that and validating my youtube journey lol. Keep up the good work on your channel - I like seeing your new uploads pop up in my feed!
Thank you for this video, Ben. I’m so glad to read the comments that share the same sentiments. I’m a handbag lover and watch tons of YT videos every day on handbags. So, since I retired and now have free time, I decided to start my own channel about handbags. It’s growing very slowly. After 2 months I gained only 40 subs. One day I thot I’d throw in a clip of me trying on some sneakers. I mean bags, sneakers, they’re all part of styling, right? I lost 2 subs immediately. I mean, when you have only 40. Going down by 2 is a lot. I panicked and removed that post. So stressful. I also feel there’s a lot of competition and I know I will not be able to match up because I can’t afford to unbox a new bag every other week. That’s why I’m starting to reconsider if I want to just have fun and also post about other stuff that interests me, like fashion, or cooking diabetic-friendly foods since I’m a diabetic myself or even doing walking tours to show my country to the rest of the world.
Hello, Ben. I subscribed to your channel because you inspired me to be myself and not worry much about having a niche. I am interested in a lot of things, and I have different hobbies. For example, I like to make stickers and sell them on Etsy, but also I love selling random stuff on eBay. Plus, my boyfriend and I run a trucking company together, and I love talking about the trucking industry and how we run our business. See, I am all over the place. I am new to TH-cam. For now, I think I will continue uploading videos about everything that I am passionate about, even if it means being all over the place and confusing my very small audience LOL.
Agreed with that bro! sticking with one niche is kinda boring, and why would i limit myself if i can do more that one content? like me, i want to share my music because i’m a muscian, i want to share my cooking because i’m a cook, and i do really love eating as well like any foods and i wanna share that to the people. i do fishing, making short videos and more.. it’s kinda stupid if you make 5+ channels just to show what you can do. just be yourself on one channel and enjoy your life.
Thank you Ben, I am 65 and want to pass my interests along to others and was wondering about a channel with different content. I'm not real interested in making lots of money, but to share my interests.. I have about 25 different HOBBIES because my mind is like yours , all over the place. I like being creative so thanks again for your advice.
I would suggest starting out with one channel and trying out different types of content, then see what feels right content-wise. Over time, I think you might naturally figure out what you're drawn to creating. Experiment and see what sticks!
I'm REALLY struggling with this as well. I have a family and a puppy and I'd like to show those things that we do around home and places we go that are interesting, but i REALLY want to do travel. BUT.... we can't travel every week! Lol or even every month! It's good to see your channel IS still growing! Binge listening on this topic while at work today! Thank you!
It sounds like you may be organically defining your niche already! Family/home/puppy life + occasional travel videos sounds like a fun grouping of videos. Don’t worry about sticking to a niche and trust your gut! Simply create about things that excite you, and the niche will develop on its own.
I have been struggling with this question for a while now, thank you for uploading this, it gave me time to consider this more. My final take is: If the subjects can be identified clearly and you plan on making a lot of content about that one subject, make a channel for it, and have a catch all channel for everything else. Here is my reasoning: it feels right to only have one channel, because I am many things, but all one person. But being honest with myself, I typically only watch people for the specific content they have I am interested in; I love people as people, but very rarely do I ever check out their branching topic "second channel" / "blog channel" etc, and this is true even for people I watch very regularly. If it so happened that the person were to be a total match for my interests, then I probably would watch all of their content. I think the main issue is, if I want anyone to see my very specific content at all, I don't want it to never be recommended to those who would watch it, because youtube thinks other channels about the same content have better interaction because half my videos aren't about that topic and don't get interacted with by my subscribers. I want to make content on three major topics: spirituality, gaming, vlogging. I've been struggling with this issue for a while now, and it seems like those topics are so very specific and different that just separating the videos into three channels would just be beneficial. I think they would grow disproportionately, and maybe it would be a hassle to manage 3 channels, I don't know. I certainly would rather have 3 channels where the one I put the most effort into ends up being the most successful one, and they can cross pollenate each other if those people are either really interested in me as person or genuinely in the specific subjects. Pretty much everything else in this world has been built into narrow focused functions, it's what people are very comfortable with. People created separate companies for each specific service. When a major artist breaks into another genre or art form, people generally lose their minds. And the youtube algorithm rewards this narrow focus, right now. Maybe we can change it, and it feels somehow right to want to change it, but until then I think it's best to play with the algorithmic hand we are dealt. Best of luck Ben Aqua. XD
Very introspective and resonant thoughts! There may be ways to experiment with some crossover of those 3 subjects you're narrowing your channel(s) down into. For example, a vlog where you're gaming and also talking about spirituality. I really like creators who have a main topic for the video, but also will include other random thoughts or observations outside of it that are connected to a bigger picture or concept. My videos are usually about a particular topic across many niches, but sometimes I'll sprinkle in some talk about mental health, self-care, or a random line about something completely unrelated just for fun. idk how much that stuff resonates, but it feels authentic to my process. Good luck with your channel! Experiment.
@@b3naqua Agreed. I actually do the same with all of my videos. I know my divine mission is to help others awaken (let's skip that as it's a 2 hour topic LOL), and so I add hints of that sauce on all my videos whether I'm vlogging or talking about pushups or mental health or what we can learn from will smith vs. chris rock.
Thanks so much for the advice. I love and do many things but was afraid incorporating them into my channel would work against me. Now I know better. Thanks a bunch
You just spoke my mind. I put a variety of videos on my channel and still slowly growing. It's true - Algorithm and subscriber rates are slower, but I am Ok with that.
Yes... That also what i wanted. Because if I need to make another video about what I am interested is very hard to do. So i decided to have mix vlog about me and what I am interested. Yes! I thought I am the only one thinking about that. Wonderful word. I love this video and i just ring that bell. Thank you so much.
Wow, thanks for making this, I'm really struggling to not upload videos on my channel that doesn't stick to one niche. I'm glad that people think it's fine since I really wanted to try out different kinds of videos while also benefiting my channel.
My biggest thing I struggle with is that my channel is mainly based around my favorite band. But I’m also a huge horror fan that wants to talk about horror. I’m trying to think of ways to mix it.
This totally resonated with me. I create videos on my bucket list that includes adding new experiences and learning new skills. I have seen slow growth however, what I do gives me satisfaction and makes me feel authentic ❤️
Hi Ben, I also create videos based on my current interests however they don't perform compared to when I was sticking to a single topic. Sadly people don't really appreciate who you're but only on what they can get... anyway my channel my way right? lol
lol yes exactly! Not everyone will like our content, no matter how hard we try to stick to a niche or not. It's part of the game. Might as well have fun with it!
This resonates ALOT with me. I don’t have a nisch yet because it’s so many things I want to do, I have more than one passion and I can se myself doing most of them on my channel. I’m thinking of ideas all the time. So I’ve goon from just wanted to be a rockstar to more of a creator of many things. I have 112 subs now and it feels really good, now it’s just to get back to business. Main thing is that I want to have fun, get really good at filmmaking, inspire people to actually move and to be able to create my dream life. Thank you for this video, great. I subscribe! 😃🙏🏼
Glad I came across this video I struggle with finding my way I’ve been doing gaming content because I truly love gaming but I enjoy fitness, food and motivation, I three of those thing can mix but the gaming part is what’s frustrating
There are ways you could integrate gaming content into the other themes as well. For example, a "day in the life" style vlog where you do multiple activities all in one video. Your personality and aesthetic style can tie all the different subjects together in one. Experiment and see what sticks!
Yes, experiment as much as possible! I'm 4 years into my TH-cam channel and I'm still experimenting. Some stuff works, other stuff doesn't. Enjoy the process as much as possible!
my problem right now is, I'm revamping a channel I unfortunately abandoned after doing sketch videos and what not back in high school. TH-cam is different than it was back in 2005 to 2010 so it's not what I'm used to. I want to make vlogs and game streams but enjoy making other types of videos. it's a tough one
Yeah it’s a different game, and it changes so frequently too. I’d suggest doing what you want with your vids, experimenting with different formats and styles and see what sticks.
I so love, love this video. I was happy I came across your video. I feel so much better about this TH-cam thing. Now I understand there are others who think like me. At first I was thinking 🤔 “why do I switch up so much”? I tried my best to stay with one idea in mind. I don’t even tell people I’m posting. Puts me in a box; and my brain just do not work like that. Thank you so much. I understand the concept for myself at least and who I am. ☺️I’m in Nutrition school. It may be that creative side you said you did music. I have a degree in Theatre I have a feeling most Artist feel the same way you do regarding a niche. Keep up the good work. Nice video.
I'm so happy my video resonated with you! You said it so well - why put ourselves in a box? There are so many external forces already trying to do that. Focus on what makes us truly happy and excited to be alive. Just b u!
@@b3naqua I think the use of playlists should come in handy. Because at the moment, I am covering 3 topics on one channel. All that I am passionate about. I hate the idea of making 3 separate channels. It feels so artificial to me.
My issue is: if I'd create a niche channel for every single interest of mine, I'll end up with dozens and dozens of channels, I won't be able to keep up!! Your vid reassured me. Thanks!
My channel is about me, being a dad. One day I'm running my trucking company, next day I'm building an off grid cabin. Then another I might be building a goat pen for my daughters goats
Well done! It's nice to see that other people have taken a similar path that I have. One thing that you may have forgotten to mention is that the content should still have value to the viewers. If I were to have stuck with let's plays and made other random videos that people didn't care about, my channel wouldn't have grown to 1000 subscribers. What I've instead done is focused mainly on searchable content within different niches (mainly tutorials). Tutorials are perfect for a variety channel, because in general people who watch tutorials will leave once they receive the value that they had searched for, thus not subscribing and lowering ctr of the other types of content that they're uninterested in. I have also done some videos just for me, like my video about How Bad Can I Be but it's The Forest. Variety content gives me the freedom to post videos about several topics that I'm interested in, while at the same time still delivering that value that's needed to stand out on TH-cam.
That's a really excellent point about focusing on offering value to viewers! I try to be conscious of that with each video and will ask myself, yeah this is cool to me, but what would make it interesting/helpful/entertaining to someone else?
Hey Ben Aqua, now two years later, since you create your video, are there any updates you want to share with us, or do you have the absolutely same opinion about a multi-niche YT channel as then? Thanks, and I appreciate your answer!
If you have a personality that likes to focus on one topic, go ahead and have a niche. But if you are like myself and like to study and talk about different things, don't think it needs a niche. It also depends on your goals on TH-cam. Nice video.
Cool! I like dolphins and pizza burgers! Also this video is EXACTLY what I needed thanks man! I’m whittling down to about 3ish topics but didn’t want to get confined so much appreciated
Truly appreciate this video. Subscribed ! I also have mixed interests, and now that i have watched this, I'll keep going on my channel with a variety of topics. I was very hesitant.
Yes! 👏🏼 Glad it resonated w you! I'm still using the "create whatever the hell you want" method and my channel has slowly but surely grown over the last few years. Good luck!
Recently I created a second channel but haven't started posting on it yet. So a little about my current (main channel), i started posting things about everything Im interested in from skateboarding to swimming, workouts to general sports talk, but I feel like I just have so many different niches and topics that i make on this one channel it gets a bit messy and bad for the youtube algorithsm. I've seen some video do pretty well whilst the others not so much. So i wanted to make the second channel for ONLY my exercise and fitness stuff whilst my current one is just for life/vlog/skateboarding. But the issue is i dont have so much time to focus on both and I also feel too involved and dedicated to my current channel to be able to make that switch all of a sudden. Like it feels like I have to restart everything, not that I have a lot of subs on this channel anyawys but I worked quite hard on it and it has been growing slowly but consistently lately. So i'm quite troubled on what to do and how I should go about, maybe slowly cut down on the topics/niches that are not getting so many views? So just focus on like 2 instead of 5
Thanks so much for this! Just starting out YT properly and I’ve been stressing about sticking to one niche but it felt like I’d be boxing myself. But all you said resonates with me so much, so I’m just going to be myself. The growth may be slower, but I’d rather be my authentic, multi-faceted self. Cheers from London! 🥂
I have one channel that's focused on one topic, but later I started another one (this one) where I make videous on various topics. In terms of daily views number they are about the same, although one is 2.5 y.o., and this one is 3 months old. Bu I like working on both of them.
💯% agreed! I have a huge variety of Content! I used that Starting out to see what People like the most! So far it seems to be working and I know more about what people like from me which is OUTDOORS, Fishing, Hunting! But yet I have playlist that categorize tips and tricks for HVAC, electrical generators. I also have videos of sports such as basketball and cooking as well. What do you recommend I do as a working man who owns an HVAC company? How should I handle this stick to just outdoors hunting and fishing since it seems to be what's working the most or the second? Most viewed content is tips and tricks about HVAC, electrical, etc.? I find myself doing both a lot and it is my passion to show how blessed the family is even after the murder of my mother that you can pull through anything and we want to keep people laughing also. Maybe just have them learn something new they never knew before at the same time record all the great things we'll get to do as a family, which seems to be interesting to most of our viewers. .! I know this is a lot but what do you recommend?
I think one thing can stop subscribers from unsubscribing our channel in this scenario. We can simply put a few seconds disclaimer in the beginning of every video saying "that I put videos on different different helpful topics, you can't expect all videos on the same topic always, if you are okay with that, then you can subscribe to my channel" I guess a small clip in the beginning of every video will stop subscribers from unsubscribing and it will also give them an idea of what they can expect on the channel and all upcoming videos. How is that idea? It just striked in my mind.
Hmm I think that's an interesting idea. I would keep that message light and positive though, maybe saying something like "on this channel I talk about (short list of main topics here), but in this video I'm going to be covering (topic for the video)". That way, viewers will know you cover all types of subjects, but they'll also clearly know what each specific video is about before investing time into it.
So, I'm stuck between a dilemma, we already have a channel where we create DIY stuff especially movie props, is it a good idea to add art stuff like watercolor paintings or drawings on the same channel?
I think you could keep it all on one channel as long as you keep your branding, editing style, aesthetic, etc consistent across all your videos. Make sure the direction and intention of each video is clear towards the beginning of the video too!
Thanks for this video, I'm currently making whatever content I want until I figure it out and I'm having fun with it. It's very freeing. I think right now my goal is just learning to make better videos with better editing and make things for myself that other people would want to watch. My problem is that I want to make so much but there's only so much I can make 😅
You're an awesome speaker bro! This video gives so much reasons for many to use or to have one's personality or herself or himself or oneself as a niche. I also can't imagine keeping myself doing only one thing. I'm interested on how you started getting yourself in Spotify and what distribution company did you tapped in? You're a great story teller. You have the potential to become huge with storytelling as a niche. Good luck and more power to your channel. Thanks for this video and God bless.
Hey thanks for the the compliments! Glad my video resonated with you! I use Distrokid to get all my music on Spotify and other streaming apps - here’s a discount link if you want to try it out: distrokid.com/vip/seven/869020
I am just searching for like this video and i really am confused about what niche i need to do but now i think i know whag to do😊thanks for sharing this
Well said.... Thanks for sharing your point of views but kindly guide us that then how we select category for each niche or stick to one category but share multiples niche ... please guide... Thanks!
To select your niche category, think of the main themes of a majority of your videos - what are they mostly about? And who is the intended audience for the videos/what might they be searching for on TH-cam?
Man as a gaming channel who DOESN'T have a niche, I have been growing SLOWLY. I kinda feel like the algorithm doesn't favor me but at the same time, I could just experiment with other types of content
What do ya'll think? Stick to one niche, or make videos about whatever the hell you want? 🧐💅🏼
PS: check out my updated video on this topic: th-cam.com/video/v8ebsr8jZ3w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HOi3Rm2yqxd-i0uD
Though I do suspect it'll take a much longer time to catch on haha
i ended up making two channels: one for gaming and one for more personal topics. idk, it just feels right to me. and they're both fairly new, but i dont care. it makes me feel good and realistic to me 🤷♀️
Thanks for the authenticity.
Much appreciated 🤘🏼 thank you!!
For sanity, make whatever you want. For results, stick to niche.
facts 👌🏼
I have two channels. One with a niche and one without one, just me. The niche channel is a side project, teaching people a language. The other one is my passion project. The niche channel is growing like crazy even though I'm almost never uploading, cause two videos went semi viral. The other one is on a plateau, because people don't like a mix of things. But I do. So yeah, I'm going to keep this up. Because I hate niches and I seen how bad niches are creatively on my other channel. It feels almost like a job!
Thanks for sharing your experience! At the end of the day, we should do what makes us feel happy and fulfilled. Keep it up!
Don't worry about having a niche, but do worry about having a clear value proposition that your audience can expect to get from your content. If you go too willy nilly with what value your delivering, people won't stick and you won't grow.
Truth 👍🏼
I agree! We're in the same boat Matt!
Digging this approach to creating. I'm also a musician and photographer, but also like to make random things that don't really "fit" anywhere. You've helped me confirm to go with the "make videos about whatever the hell I want" model!
Yessss go for it! Keep experimenting and I think naturally you’ll figure out what you’re drawn to. And that can change too!
Make music videos, that kinda combines the 2 of them 🤷♂️
Thank you so much for sharing this Ben! Subscribed!
Hell yeah! Glad the video resonated with you. Authenticity/fun > chasing stats/numbers. Just b u!
Totally agree with you Ben. I think what you're going for the is "personality", "celebrity" brand. In my mind I had a hunch that this is what the TH-camrs who advocate one channel would say, and you've just confirmed it after multiple other videos I just watched about having multiple channels. So here's what I've found including the content from your video:
- People who want to SELL something (maybe even 1 thing or 1 family of products), have multiple channels, one for each of these things or families.
Yeah there are pros and cons to both approaches. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy and excited to be alive. The rest will follow 🤘🏼
@@b3naqua Word! Thank you :)
The audience will love a focused niche, the algorithm will follow.

Great video! I often think that having a really strict niche on TH-cam feels kinda weird. We all naturally have varied interests so why not share everything that we're passionate about as individuals
Agreed! Variety is spicy 🌶️
Great video, I'm kinda getting to that point where my content is starting to feel rather limited to be honest.
Glad it resonated with you! 👌🏼
im soo glad I'm not the only one who thinks like this about my channel!! love that your personality is your niche

yoooo thanks so much 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I had severe indecision with this for a long time.
Thanks Ben! Oh wow, I was here 6 months ago. Just rewatched this today. It helped!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for the great information!
No prob! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I agree with you on the subscribing bit. Telling people about your 6 channels is crazy LOL
Yeah no one wants to hear that lol
The dilemma is real. The way I see it, it’s your channel so talk about whatever what excites you and makes you happy. That energy will be infectious.
Just the video i was looking for. I am travel vlogger + a professional dj & music producer too + i have this urge to speak a lot of things out there to speak my mind out. Now i know what ill do. As you said i myself will be my own niche and brand . Under one channel only
Yes! Speak your mind. Experiment.
proper info!!!
TheHitBrainiac thanks! Glad it resonated!

So if you’re not really obsessed with the subscription number then it’s all good ☺️
Good point! Yeah sub count looks nice and all, but views and watch time are what brings in the monetization. 👌🏼
this is the video for me. I can’t really stick to one thing so i wanted to find something to do everything that i’m interested in. though it will be the same style. and a whole category CREATIVITY period. so thank you. you gave me reassurance that i can do anything.
Awesome! So glad my video resonated with you. Go for it!
I struggle with this a lot being a person that does and is into multiple things
I feel you. Try experimenting with different topics and styles and see what sticks.
@@b3naqua ❤️
One of the best videos I've watched about youtube niche. Thanks for the advice you gave. It encouraged me.
Awesome! So glad it resonated with you 👍🏼
Thank you Martha! Keep having fun and experimenting with your channel as much as possible. The audience will follow 👍🏼
Agreed! Variety is v spicy.
I do what ever I want. I totally agree with you.
Yes!
I agree with you. Do everything.
yessss
I know my divine mission is to help others awaken (let's skip that as it's a 2 hour topic LOL), and so I add hints of that sauce on all my videos whether I'm vlogging or talking about pushups or mental health or what we can learn from will smith vs. chris rock.
@@zephyrkhambatta awesome! Add some of that sauce in every video 👌🏼

Yes! Agreed. Glad my video resonated with you!
Yes... That also what i wanted. Because if I need to make another video about what I am interested is very hard to do. So i decided to have mix vlog about me and what I am interested. Yes! I thought I am the only one thinking about that. Wonderful word. I love this video and i just ring that bell. Thank you so much.
Awesome! Glad the video resonated with you. Make those mixed vlogs! 👏🏼
Wow, thanks for making this, I'm really struggling to not upload videos on my channel that doesn't stick to one niche. I'm glad that people think it's fine since I really wanted to try out different kinds of videos while also benefiting my channel.
Glad my video was helpful for you! Yes, I agree with you about trying out different types of content. Experiment and have fun!
My biggest thing I struggle with is that my channel is mainly based around my favorite band. But I’m also a huge horror fan that wants to talk about horror. I’m trying to think of ways to mix it.
There are def ways to mix the content styles and topics - experiment!
This totally resonated with me. I create videos on my bucket list that includes adding new experiences and learning new skills. I have seen slow growth however, what I do gives me satisfaction and makes me feel authentic ❤️
Well said!!!
Isha, checking out your channel!
Thanks for subscribing! 🙏🏼 Prioritize fun and experimentation and you'll find your stride.
Completely agree with some of these points. Don't get wrapped up in success, make content that speaks to your interests and your heart as a creator.
I feel that! Glad the video resonated with you 👍🏼
Glad I came across this video I struggle with finding my way I’ve been doing gaming content because I truly love gaming but I enjoy fitness, food and motivation, I three of those thing can mix but the gaming part is what’s frustrating
There are ways you could integrate gaming content into the other themes as well. For example, a "day in the life" style vlog where you do multiple activities all in one video. Your personality and aesthetic style can tie all the different subjects together in one. Experiment and see what sticks!
In this same boat bro! I am a type 7 personality and it is just not me to be “consistent” to one thing. I’m authentically all over the place.
Same! I feel consistently all over the place lol. The way I see it is like, own it and move forward!

It'd be hard for me to find one niche. As an artist / filmmaker, my mind is everywhere. Maybe I will just keep experimenting until something picks up.
Just b u!
Staying authentic and consistent. Yup, I feel the same
Yesss 👍🏼
@@b3naqua :)
I'm glad someone highlighted the importance of being yourself and realistic.
Gotta be honest with ourselves about it 👌🏼
@@b3naqua I think the use of playlists should come in handy. Because at the moment, I am covering 3 topics on one channel. All that I am passionate about.
I hate the idea of making 3 separate channels. It feels so artificial to me.
Thanks Ben
Thanks for watching!
You made a lot of really great points in this video! Thank you sir!
Thanks for watching! Glad it resonated with you 👏🏼
I have different niche combined in my channel. I can't stick to one niche.
Explore a bunch of different topics! Experiment with it. Have fun.
My issue is: if I'd create a niche channel for every single interest of mine, I'll end up with dozens and dozens of channels, I won't be able to keep up!! Your vid reassured me. Thanks!
Glad my video was helpful! Experiment with one channel and see how it goes!
My channel is about me, being a dad. One day I'm running my trucking company, next day I'm building an off grid cabin. Then another I might be building a goat pen for my daughters goats
You are your niche 👏🏼 keep up the good work!
Good for you
Nice video.
Thanks! You made some good points too. Agreed!
Also do you pronounce it “neesh” or “nitch”?? #important
Neesh
Lol nice! I said “nitch” for almost my entire life until I was corrected a couple years ago lol
According to Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster, it can be pronounced both ways: /niCH,nēSH/
@@batman9512 good to know!
Good luck!
Thanks for sharing your insight! 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Well said! Glad my video resonated with you. Good luck!
Love hearing your take on this & love your editing style. Thank you for sharing!! :)
Glad it resonated with you! Thanks for watching
Great video Ben, 🎉
@@DadLifeOfBrian thanks so much! Check out my more recent video about this topic as well: th-cam.com/video/v8ebsr8jZ3w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=If9RVgoazFt0J-6O
I have one channel that's focused on one topic, but later I started another one (this one) where I make videous on various topics. In terms of daily views number they are about the same, although one is 2.5 y.o., and this one is 3 months old. Bu I like working on both of them.
That’s an interesting approach! I like that you’ve given yourself some flexibility.
@@b3naqua Thank you! :)
Good ideas, Ben! I can relate.. keep making the stuff you want to :)
Ryan Thomas Dalton thanks Ryan! Glad it was relatable! Keep doing your content in your style as well 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I have same opinion. Just keep being yourself ❤
exactly 👏🏼
Thank you for this video, i think i know right now what i will do with my channel!
Glad it was helpful for you!
We can simply put a few seconds disclaimer in the beginning of every video saying "that I put videos on different different helpful topics, you can't expect all videos on the same topic always, if you are okay with that, then you can subscribe to my channel"
I guess a small clip in the beginning of every video will stop subscribers from unsubscribing and it will also give them an idea of what they can expect on the channel and all upcoming videos.
@@b3naqua yeah thats right bro
You're a polymath ... like me! ......perfect video thanks!
Yesss you’re welcome! Polymath gang let’s go 🙏🏼
Hey you should also make personal coaching or motivational videos haha. I really enjoyed this video! keep it up.
Haha glad you dug it! I made a follow up video that may also be helpful for you: th-cam.com/video/v8ebsr8jZ3w/w-d-xo.html
So, I'm stuck between a dilemma, we already have a channel where we create DIY stuff especially movie props, is it a good idea to add art stuff like watercolor paintings or drawings on the same channel?
I think keeping it to one channel would be good since they are both artistic creations
My problem is that I want to make so much but there's only so much I can make 😅
haha can def relate! Keep making stuff that speaks to you and excites you! The rest will follow 👌🏼
Thank you for this!!
Glad you dug it!
Thanks needed this advice

You deserve it bro. How long have you been using Distrokid? Are you satisfied with their performance?
Thanks! Yeah I’m really satisfied with them. I like that you can upload unlimited songs for a pretty tiny yearly fee. I might do a video about it!

Can't wait to see that. Thanks!
I am just searching for like this video and i really am confused about what niche i need to do but now i think i know whag to do😊thanks for sharing this
Glad it was helpful!
I also have different content because i like music, mukbang, unboxing shopping because i like editing.
yes!
Yes, experiment! Try different topics within gaming, different aesthetic styles, change up your thumbnails and titles, etc
Very very helpful! 👍🏻
Awesome! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
