- the MAN-03 Braw Bro, a mobile armor that was the size of a small battleship. It has the distinction of being the first mobile weapon to be equipped with the psychic communicator "Psycommu" system for piloting the MA and controlling the only weapons that the Braw Bro was equipped with: four wire-guided units mounting two barrel mega particle guns (top and bottom spars) or single mega particle guns (starboard and port spars). The Braw Bro was also designed to separate into different blocks, so that any test data could be preserved. Its pilot was Zeon Lieutenant Challia Bull, a Jupitris transport ship captain that had exhibited Newtype abilities. He piloted the unit in a field test against the White Base in the Corregidor Shoal Zone, but the unit was destroyed by the Gundam as well. Although designed for Newtypes, the Braw Bro is also capable of being operated by Oldtype pilots. Its cockpit has three seats for one pilot and two gunners; the pilot maneuvers the Braw Bro while the gunners manually controlled the wire-guided mega particle guns

You know I can’t tell if Kai and Hyato are just really good pilots or just incredibly lucky to survive all the shit Zeon threw at them. Now that I think about it it’s probably a combination of both.
If only Hayato retained that luck through the first Neo Zeon war
Kai is a coward forced to be brave, hayato is a loose Cannon that otherwise knows what he's doing. Between the two of them they managed to survive

Knew immediately it was from the game because of how the beams were animated. There was no anime back in 1979 that had such detailed beams/weapons fire.

How the heck does Zeon keep producing these behemoth Mobile Armors I mean they're cool but shouldn't they be focusing on developing their already existing suit
That's what the Japanese call "The Terror of Zeon" after said line came from an old Gundam toy commercial promoting toys of Zeons newest batch of suits. It's become a phrase for basically "How the hell did Zeon make all these different suits in one year!? and where is the money coming from?!".
This is pretty much what cost them the war
Zeon was so focused on trying to kill the white devil that they began to make increasingly different prototypes just to try and beat the gundam. And that's before we get into the mobile suit design arms races that Zeonic, Zimmad, and MIP had during the conflict on top of the lack of standardization that came from the differing companies (for instance, the dom of developed by Zimmad and the Zaku was developed by Zeonic. Completely different companies with different design specs and parts.) The united maintenance plan was a last ditch effort to standardize the mainline machines (Zaku, Dom, Gelgoog) but was too little, too damn late as the plan was implemented at the last month of the one year war.

Federation should've done the same, they just kept making more and more different Gundams instead of making a better main line suit than the GM

ジオン軍が初めて開発したNT専用MA。
上下と左右に装備されたメガ粒子砲を有線で飛ばしてオールレンジ攻撃することが可能となっているがまだ初期の機体である為、通常のパイロットなら3名程で運用も可能となっている他、機体サイズが艦艇クラスとなっている。
ちなみに緊急時には真ん中と左右で分離して脱出することが可能。
別時空だとガンダムとブラウブロが合体しているという...w
この戦闘シーン、緊張感あるなぁ。
Can the Gundam's shield block beams? It seems so inconsistent. Gelgoog and Zeong can shoot through the shield, but Braw Bro can't? Why not?
The gundam's shield can block beams. I'm not sure about the gelgoog but the zeong's beams were fired from mega particle guns. So not only did zeong shoot through the shield, it took the gundam's arm with it. The gundam didn't seem to block the beam as much as the shield held up for just long enough for the gundam to ditch it and dodge the beam. The shield still got destroyed.
It can thanks to the special paint used on coating the shield. But its has a limit to how strong it can block.
Not all beams are created equal. The Braw-Bro's beams, being one of the first miniaturized beam cannon designs Zeon managed to produce, were probably comparable in power to those on a GM's short beam gun. The Gelgoog had a gun on the level of the Gundam's rifle and the Zeong was basically firing battleship guns.
So we gonna ignore the fact that the entire top of the shield was blown off in the beginning and then was just gone by the end?
Gundam shields can block beams because they're anti-beam coated. However the coating only lasts for one shot, and stronger beams from mega particle cannons could punch through it. It's basically the equivalent of a ballistic shield blocking a .308 round, but not being able to protect from a .50bmg
Man am I happy we're finally getting UC Engage. This animation is just awesome.
Too bad about the pilot Challia Bull, an senior Newtype's perspective would've been nice. A contrast to Lalah or Amuro.
Hayato in another Guncannon is SO much better than the fucking Guntank flying in space.
The Guntank would realistically be a better space unit than a ground one, because in space its drawbacks (way too tall, too many unnecessary moving parts) wouldn't have as much effect as on the ground :P.
It's just terrible overall and I can understand why they wanted to retcon it out of existence. Too bad its very derpiness made it a fan favorite :D.
also there is a Gundam Evolve version of this battle where they redesigned all the MS including Amuro's Gundam and the Braw Bro looks like something out of Zone of The Enders.

Something I just noticed with the normal suits is that the visors always break when exposed to high heat/pressure. You’d figure that as something that would serve to protect the wearer in space, or presumably a fire, it would be a severe design flaw.

You can tell it's definitely not from the show because there's two Guncannons. The original series had the Guntank looking even more awkward than usual in the space episodes (although realistically speaking it'd be better as a space unit than a land one :P). The compilation movies and all subsequent versions of the OYW gave the White Base a second Guncannon instead and hoped everyone would just forget the Guntank ever existed (which obviously didn't happen :P).
