- The South Seas Alliance modified the Goufs left behind by Zeon forces on the battlefield for their own use. A flight unit consisting of two fans are fitted on its back, increasing the mobile suit's jumping height and allowing it to stay afloat in the air. Aerial combat is also possible when utilized in conjunction with the Dodai sub flight system that the South Seas Alliance recovered. The mobile suit can also serve as a troop carrier as the flight unit has a container at the top for carrying soldiers. Twelve such units, onboard Dodai sub-flight systems, attempted to intercept the Pegasus-class assault carrier Spartan as it entered South Seas Alliance airspace, led by Claudia Peer. Due to the inexperience of the SSA pilots, most of these units were eventually destroyed by the Spartan and its mobile suit escorts.
This is my actual first time seeing GMs actually not being a cannon fodder and fight like a warmachine it was built for.
Helps they have a decent attention to background characters in Thunderbolt and played on parts of previous missions damaging the main suits of the protagonist and major characters
In this case both Io and season 2’s newest Fed Ace introduced Bianca’s assigned suits got massively damaged in the last battle so Bianca was assigned a GM to replace her Aqua Cannon
While Io nicked a GM to help while his Gundam was being repaired
To be fair this is because the pilots actually have decent experience now and Federation Mobile Suit Pilot training improved exceptionally by the end of the One Year War. Partially due to data gathered from the battles of Amuro Ray from the Gundam.

@@summer7034gundams you see in the vid are ground types. Their specs are much closer to the gms than the actual gundam amuro uses.
That one brilliant Gouf pilot who flies right in front of the beam canon at point blank range.
That Gouf was a kamikaze, it was supposed to do that.

@@devastater97 Really doesn't seem like it. Especially when the Gouf was carrying that bazooka. Seems more like the pilot didn't notice or expect the cannon to fire right after deploying the smokescreen/chaff. But it did.
And when you think about it, it's a serious waste for a pilot to kamikaze a Gouf with a weapon like that right after tossing a smokescreen. He also only took out a single turret. Barely damaged the entire ship.
Flying Goufs are terrifying.
The scene where the hole of a shield is utilized effectively was interesting.
Blocks spear with shield hole: "HA! HA! A perfect counter after years of simulation training!"
Sees beamsaber light up: "Oh please God no..."

not really, the gouf was designed for urban combat, exemplified by The 08th MS Team. It can be a terrifying machine, it should outperform GM's with little effort. but out in the open, it's little better than an upgraded High performance Zaku II

This isn't the SSA's military, this is the apocalyptic cult running the place from behind the scenes. Cultists tend not to make very good soldiers. Soldiering requires pragmatism, and that's anathema to fanatics.
Actually mission by the ssa to receive information from spy planted on the ship
If you read the manga, the SSA gets the last laugh and their revenge.

One of the Thunderbolt redesigns that I actually really like. The rotor-packs are a bit dumb (ducted fans of that size would NOT work to hold something this big in the air) but using the Gouf Custom arms rather than the silly hand cannons is definitely an improvement :P.
Neither would the silly thruster system on the Gouf Flight type, but we still loved those!
It feels like they dont really help with flight either in their depiction here haha. it looks like it just allows them to 'fall slower' and offers some mobility once they jump off their dodai

Well they couldn't ascend once they go down. It supposed to suck and they acknowledged it.
@@dirttales The Gouf Flight Type sort of jumps and hovers a few seconds. It can't really be accused of true flight...I think the engines start on fire when it tries to be a dedicated air unit which is why they didn't put them into full production.
I will be honest here. EVERYTHING from Thunderbolt is wonderful

For those who haven't read the manga, let me warn you not to underestimate the SSA or their mobile suits. They are a force that means business.
they are total fanatics and have no problem using Japanese style BANZAAIIII attacks.
Must not have meant that much business if they weren’t relevant enough to even be talked about later on in the UC timeline.

Where are you reading the manga? I can only seem to find the manga up to where the TV series ends.
@Dednian Terimikate U have to buy the manga. There were a couple of manga websites that you could read translated versions up to volume 20 but those got taken down sonetime ago.

In just about every appearance, even though they typically end up losing, the Gouf is just badass supreme
Doesn't matter how many times i see the Zaku-style mechas get whooped or tossed, its design is pure beauty in my eyes and i cannot stop loving it. I wanna call it utilitarian but every curve it has, from the glow of its eye, the way it encapsulates the visage of a soldier and its ability to be adaptable to different weaponry and equipment makes it so cool.

劇中ではスパルタンのMS達と交戦し、死を恐れずに突っ込んでいき最終的にほとんどの機体が撃破
された。

gundam thunderbolt is my favourite gundam series, and i love those redisigns like here with the gouf or with the dom
Seems like an interesting alternate way to get a Gouf in the -roll- role of a Flight Type, probably cheaper too if the Gouf is just the base design and not new from the ground up like the other Gouf Flight Types we've seen before this one
And I know it's probably not happening but I'd love this Gouf as an hg

That's not White Base, but it does look like a Pegasus Class based on it though. The White Base at this time had already been destroyed at A Baoa Qu.
It's probably what the White base would've been like, if most of the crew weren't killed on Side seven.
The lack of manpower in the canon was probably why there were only like 5-6 MS onboard.

Loved that in this gundam series the battleships are actually a threat that you cannot just walts in and blow up. it has enough armor and fire power to retaliate who ever gets close to it.
It is, and will continue to be a tradgedy that the best Gouf Custom we have is still from over a decade ago. With Thunderbolt 2 I was hoping we'd get a new model kit of thesee guys, but it still hasn't happened yet.
also not to be confused with the Gouf Flight Type from the original U.C. timeline because Thunderbolt's U.C. is its own universe.

一年戦争の名機グフのサンダーボルト世界での仕様。別名南洋同盟仕様。
フライトタイプを彷彿させる巨大なバックパックが特徴。ただし本家とは違い、ホバー移動と滑空精度の向上程度で、流石に自由飛行はできない。
その代わりに、歩兵輸送用のコンテナを搭載している。
劇中では南洋同盟が、スパルタン強襲時に複数機投入。目立った戦果こそないものの、陸戦型ガンダムとの一騎討ちは名勝負。
