    its the first time ever pogi loses a 1vs1 sprint, he even won against Mads Petersen 1vs1. this is insane

      Not insane at all, Pog put in a brutal attack with 30kms to go which in itself takes a huge amount out of the body, plus he then pushed alone right until Jonas came up to him. Jonas who did share the pulling with others for 20kms of his chasing 30kms.
      You have to look at the overall picture, not just the outcome.

      I know Jonas is coming back from serious injuries but more recently Pogi's bout with COVID no matter how mild is definitely playing a factor here. He had to sit multiple times on his sprint today. That is very unlike him.

    didnt think a break had much chance yesterday, not sure they do in the whole tour with those top 4 so close

    • @CyclingGuy
      @CyclingGuy  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You could also turn that argument around: bonification seconds aside, the big 4 can’t be bothered about any rider outside of these 4 teams and the fight amongst them can also happen in the background (agreed though that the break needs a buffer to be able to make it stick, which is unlikely to happen when UAE or Visma LAB decide to make the race hard)

    • @PazLeBon
      @PazLeBon 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CyclingGuy this tour has shown categorically that high clmbers have a big edge.. is that what we want the tour to be or do we add bigger bonuses on stages, like 30 seconds etc to give stage winners more chance? i think the tour is probabaly meant to remain the toughest climbing race so it should stay, but the way things go, with things like cobbles and gravel it feels they want to spice things up for the new younger viewers

    • @CyclingGuy
      @CyclingGuy  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PazLeBon IMO it will always be about the best climbers, which is OK, yet personally, I really like that they're mixing it up a bit - it would be interesting to see how bigger bonusses for stage winners would influence the racing, yet even then, it will remain a climbers' game. Talking about mixing it up, I would love to see a proper 1 week multisurface stage race (like you have gravel, tarmac and mixed surface stages in rallying), where you have pure road stages, combined with gravel stages and full on MTB stages

    • @PazLeBon
      @PazLeBon 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    • @CyclingGuy
      @CyclingGuy  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PazLeBon comparing to car racing, it would be like some kind of race of champions - personally, I'm the biggest fan of cyclists who can do it all, I have always been a massive MVDP fanboy, because he keeps on mixing up cyclocross, gravel, road and MTB and manages to be competitive in all disciplines, that in itself makes him the greatest active cyclist (not road cyclist, yet cyclist overall) in my book, nobody's even coming close - and they should be racing the appropriate bikes for the respective stages

    Why not Groenewegen at all on this stage? Not even 1 star? When he is third in odds

    • @CyclingGuy
      @CyclingGuy  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Hi Frederik, the odds are an indication, yet they don't always make sense, ... in my book, Groenewegen is by no means second favourite on this stage, nor do I expect Van Aert, given that he's been under X-rays following his crash today. For Jayco, I'm expecting Matthews on this stage over Groenewegen, which is why I didn't call him - unlike the earlier sprint stages, I am expecting a big fight for the break here and wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Cav, Groenewegen, Jakobsen ending up in a second peloton, which is why I didn't call them. As usual, I'd be more than happy to see him prove me wrong. Enjoy the stage

      I agree I’d like to see fewer flat stages, yet in all, even though one stage lay be more boring than the other, I always love watching cycling - on top, we’re 12 days in and it’s still a 4 man race, which I wouldn’t particularly call boring
