Nice to hear this presentation. Glad to know a small part of this aircraft in made in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Home of the Bluenose and Bluenose crafts people. @@valko022 The F-35's blueprints have been hacked and its RCS isn't actually that optimal by design, the plane has been detected while not carrying anything on external pylons by amateur radars. If that is stealth, then idk man. Stealth is never a 100% thing, sure the F-35 has a nice TSD and EOTS (that is inacurrate though compared to a proper designation pod, ouch). The inherent problem of stealth jets is the fact that any external pylon will destroy the stealth capabilities and launching/opening bays also creates that problem while vastly decreasing the carrying capacity. Also France and the UK know a thing or two in this regard, especially France and by that I mean hyperfrequency engineering to detect objects. Stealth isn't as magical as you think and a rough estimation of where an F-35 is located if it turns on its radar (which means emitting radiations) can be detected and is more than enough for more modern BVR missiles such as the Meteor to track these signatures. The F-35 got opposed to the Rafale in many trials over the world recently and it turns out that the Rafale is actually the better fit for airforces and since americans and Lockheed-Martin are unhappy with this outcome, they resort to good old technique called "greasing palms" and promising that the F-35 is better and not that expensive to run because... Hey, at least you can fly it on simulators instead of real life until the critical problems are finally fixed, so your pilots will remain noobs dying in various unvoidable crashes. So yeah, I respect the philosophy of the F-35 trying to be a goold multirole jet with internal bays, but the current state of affairs is that there are too many problems and many of the initial objectiveshad to be abandonned so it's not as much of a fantastic plane as you think compared to the F-22 in its time, especially since the countries you mentionned are developping 6th gen fighters and 6th gen aim to do anything the F-35 tried to achieved (but failed because technology gets more and more complex and costly), but better and with more emphasis on remote carriers, drones, basically the data fusion and TSD thing but with a bigger scope (satellites, naval, air, ground assets and without the critical bugs of the F-35), so the time for multirole aircrafts is coming to an end. Or at least the multirole aspect of things will be diverted to remote carriers and other modern assets which proved to be much more effective in recent wars (like in Ukraine for instance, helicopters are also too exposed and not as effective anymore to engage ground targets).
@@valko022 It's okay. I mean I do shit a bit on the F-35B version specifically, but the plane opened the way to great ideas on the other and you can't deny that too. There is no reason to want to want a plane to not succeed though.
Since I'm not part of the Belgian Air Force I don't have any exact numbers on this. But the maintenance of the F35 will be more expensive than the F16 when we first got those. The dutch air force have also shown us already that foam (with chemicals to extinguish a fire) does a lot of damage to the stealth coating. This might be a sign that this coating is fragile, but don't take that as a fact yet. The stealth coating might require more regular maintenance than the "normal" maintenance required for our F16s today. But once again, I don't have any inside information on this

But the only air to air engagements Belgium has is interception of other jets during Baltic air policing. If the other jet(s) turn hostile, this requires close combat. The f-35 has all aspect stealth and has greater stealth than the raptor from all aspects except the very rear. The raptor also has no ability to carry out air-to-ground missions where as the F-35 is a true multipurpose fighter.
@@MyCommentsGetGhosted no the F35 is not more stealthy than the Raptor.
