Björn originally denied it was about their marriage.. but later admitted he wrote this he had drunk, and emotional, and written the lyrics in an hour! And when he first showed it to Agnetha, she cried. It does make this performance all the more special. They were never a teenage pop group, but two married couples that wrote about the reality and pain of relationships. More background music to my teenage years. And they are back! I have enjoyed "I still have faith in You" and "Don't shut me down" as they are so much about them and their story.
Agnetha has an amazing talent for conveying emotion in her singing. Seriously, she would have been a fantastic actress. She has a natural talent for it.
I heard them the first time in the 80's half asleep in the back seat of the car traveling across country. I thought it was the greatest sound I had ever heard. I told my mom the next morning about what I heard. She says "Oh, Abba! Here's the tape!" I thought it was on the radio! I quickly put it in my Walkman and listened to it a billion times.
This song is amazing. It must have been really hard for her to perform this song because it was released not long after their marriage break up. Beautiful song but sad. Oh & I`m not ashamed to admit that I had a serious crush on her when I was a teenager. 🥰
You hit it right on the head ladies. The most beautiful breakup song sung by one of the top voices of all time. Agnetha always had the gift of the melancholy.
43 Years later...this song is beloved by so many people around the World ,New génération included ,because it s a masterpiece ,just a masterpiece Perhaps, for me ,just another song Can touch me deeply than The winner takes it all and it s once more an Abba song ...the Day Before You Came
Quite simply one of the best pop songs ever written. Typical abba with an upbeat tempo but with very sad lyrics. I can certainly relate to this song in my personal life…it’s very close to the bone. I still love the song even though it makes me very sad every time I hear it😢
I was 10 years old when ABBA became a world wide sensation . They made their first tour to Australia in 1977 and the fans went crazy . Agnetha has a great voice , but so does Anni Frid Lyngstad . Just listen to her singing Super Trouper and I have a dream, her Mezzo Soprano vocal range is glorious
@@derklavierspieler7491 Well hello little troll person. How are you today. Why don't you tell us who this person is and when they got the copyright for the lyrics? This is the best popgroup ever! Noone can sing a story better than Agneta, both through the emotions and her capacity in the voice. She grips the listener in her storytelling. Best female singer ever I would say in that point of view at least. I love all the members in this band! I absolutely love this song. One of my favorite ABBA songs of theirs. Loved both of you swaying to this. It's a very sad song. I appreciated that you pointed out the emotion and the difficulties in Agnetha singing a song the Bjorn wrote; their break-up song.
Another “winner”, Ladies! You guys are sooo good at this! A break-up, sad, personal song that brings appreciation for harmonies, musicality, and great writing from the fans. Always with a request with my comments, I would say, try Thank You For The Music, or The Way Old Friends Do are 2 other great choices. ❤
Brilliant song from one of the best groups in music history, ABBA, excellently written by the guys, and superbly delivered by Agnetha ..... ABBA are said to have sold up to 385 million records worldwide to date.
I remember back in the 70s when they were guests on one of the daytime talk shows and I believe it was Mike Douglas who asked them how they all got along being married and essentially business partners. And they replied that they had wonderful relationships and each couple were very much in love. So when they both got divorced I was a little surprised as I sure everybody was at that time.
Aww guys... another classic from the 80s. I've loved Abba since i was a kid so it's great to see you react to them. Both of those girls have great voices and when their voices are combined wow the sound is amazing. Also very true, even after all these years this song still pulls at the heartstrings.
Well saw my parents listening to this song (tears in their eyes) and so much anger... not very rosy. (thinking we would be safe there) And later as kids we made the same 'mistakes'. Very sad song. What a band (and I say this as a Slayer fan too)
ABBA! there is no other group that matches their success. NONE! React to one of their last songs together before they finally broke up. The song title is: "The Day Before You Came"
This is a different performance than ones I’ve watched in the past. The thing that jumped out at me about this performance is that her accent came through like never before. That implies she’s speaking more than singing, a result of the emotional impact of the song?
ABBA have got an avatar (or ABBAtar) show going on right now in a purpose built arena in East London, and it has been for months, apparently it's incredible ..... you feel like they are actually on stage, its digitally done ..... a full house of around 3,000 fans every night.
The backing musicians for the original four created a "tribute band" (ABBA The Show) in the 21st century. Mostly they toured in Europe, but in 2010 they made two stops in the US. I paid A LOT of money for a front row seat, because at that point I had been a fan of ABBA for 35 years and I considered it a once in a lifetime experience. Totally worth every penny (two hour show, no encores).
The first two persons I think of when it comes to be able to convey such emotions with empathy is Agnetha and Floor Jansen. Agnetha was my teenage crush I remember. You can drown in her eyes if you're not careful😊
Its kinda funny that youve heard enough ABBA to like them so much and NOT have heard this on. This is considered one of, probably THE, best song they ever made. Its arguably one of the best pop songs ever, period.

Sadly Agnetha tried marriage again 10 years after her divorce but it only lasted a few years. Then then became kind of a recluse on an island in Sweden. On a brighter note, Meryl Streep does an amazing version of this song for the movie Mama Mia. You gals should check it out. The movie too if you haven't seen it.

Evertime I hear this song I always get tears in my eyes. Fantastic group. The video clip is good to watch.
One of the best Pop bands ever
ABBA is one of the best bands in the history!
This is simply a magnificent performance. And a song is simply a masterpiece.
I saw an interview with her and she was asked which song was her favourite, Amazingly it was
The Winner Takes it all, which surprised me.
According to what Agnetha herself has said in interviews, this song is her favorite and means the most.

I'm so glad that you return with ABBA songs
"The winner takes it all" (1980)
is one of the Best Songs by ABBA
and the Most sad and emotional too
The best lyrics by the guitarist Björn and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of one of their lead singer, the blonde Agnetha Fältskog and her soprano voice
The lyrics is a fiction about a divorce,
it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce between Agnetha & Björn in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978
but as They said in interviews after their break up, it included the feelings of all four, because at the same time of these TV perfomance begins the split of the other couple, Benny and Frida
the Official Video, with more than 115 millions views in TH-cam, was filmed on July 12 (1980), is a Masterpiece as the song
(it shows the blonde singer Agnetha alone so sad and remembering happy times, and the others members so nice together, a perfect example of contrast feelings)
It's the first ABBA vídeo with images in black and white about Their previous history, to introduce us in the context; I think it's their best official video
but just as a great performance by Agnetha is seen in these video, almost like a dramatic actress, transmitting the sorrow, anguish and pain,
(there are also videos in the back room of the filming, which show the four cheerful and fun)
These is a TV perfomance of ABBA in Germany 1980
after these, ABBA performed two more songs; "Super Trouper", with the brunnette singer Frida in lead voice, and the last of the Show Express was a rock tune "On and on and on"
when you see the three perfomances in a row, you will understand that Agnetha was as an actress in these song, because in the nexts you could see her so happy
"The winner takes it all" return ABBA to the Top of the charts, gives ABBA their eighth #1 in UK after almost two years and half Also was the fourth and last Top10 to ABBA in U.S (pick at #8 in 1981) and #1 in US Adult Contemporary too
"The winner takes it all"
was voted the Best ABBA song by the British fans, and is the favourite ABBA song to the blonde singer Agnetha
