Undoubtedly one of the greatest pop groups of all time and although their music might seem rather light and bubble gum oriented on the surface when you look a little deeper there's so much more to their music. I took a tremendous amount of heat from my contemporaries for liking this group 40 or 50 years ago but ABBA's music has certainly stood the test of time and they still get lots of airplay on the memory sticks I rock out to in the car. Absolute masters of their craft, Benny & Bjorn were excellent songwriters, Anni-frid (frida) & agnetha just had the most fantastic voices, but they way that Agnetha could belt out a note was just mesmersing, not to mention that growing up i had a crush on Agnetha despite her being 37 years older than me

I cannot believe how many reactors focus upon Agnetha's voice (which, is, yes, spectacular here) or worse, how attractive she is (again true, but not the point). For me, the point here is the lyrics working in contrast to the music. If you stripped the words away, much of this song is a fairly jaunty tune...if not upbeat, then certainly not sad. But the words should make anyone listening for the first time sit up and pay attention. This is a person who's at the acceptance stage of working through what's happened, and that acceptance...is devastating. All of the dreams she has carried for years are gone completely. And the fact that it's actually true is what gives Agnetha's words their power. She is in genuine pain as she sings them...and yet what courage she has to do so...

This was one of the first songs I cried to when I was 12/13 years old back in the early 80s ... and it still can make me cry. Sarah i just wanted to let you know when you teared up reviewing the American national anthem i teared up too!
