I tried to determine the top 20 players for Smash Ultimate in 2024....so far. So join me as I attempt to make a cohesive top 20. Twitter: / eazyfreezie Twitch: / eazyfreezie_bw
1: I just moved and forgot about my pop filter on my mic. Tried my best to edit the audio to get around that. 2: I was right, I don't agree with my own ranking the next day LOL so take this with a grain of salt! Thanks for watching!
I love this video because it shows how much freaking work goes behind these rankings like this was a thing made for fun for the first 3 months of 2024 and it still took over an hour of discussion with no clear answer
@@nenez2016 I actually don't think that's accurate, at least not entirely. Miya still has moments of looking like he's in the matrix, like he's unbeatable. When he reaches that stage it seems impossible for the opponent. Whether he himself has counteradapted or just isn't reaching his highest level as much these days is, of course, up to debate.
@@nenez2016maister has definitely not been doing better, Miya has already won a supermajor this year, and also won a major at the end of 2023 that counts for this season
In my opinion this is one of the most intresting years in ult's lifespan so far. So many players neck and neck each capable of winning a major is just cool to me, each with their own story line and advantages/disadvantages. Reminds me of melee 2022
I honestly really am curious to see the results that Peabnut brings for his next majors. Megaman is such a slept on character it’s always cool to see someone pilot him at a top level and get great wins.
@@Trancerrr He doesn't have the consistency of players like acola and Sparg0 though. Sparg0's also got high attendance and he has taken less rough losses and has better consistency in placements. And acola's won everything without dropping a set.
Leo has been really good against most NA players this season, but has struggled against Japanese players. Golden week will give him exposure to Japanese players if nothing else.
I think his problem is both his struggles against players he hasn’t seen much of and getting consistently beaten by players like shinymark, gluto, and riddles
@@ryanrech107I would believe Leo is back if he could beat any of his problem players but he just keeps losing and the list of problem players keeps getting longer and longer
@@SeriousStriker I’m not just saying this season I’m saying he’s consistently lost to them the last few times they’ve played which is a huge issue of his.
Zomba is the absolute savior of smash. Tournaments have significantly improved in performance ever since he won Genesis for any tournament he's been in.
I think Toriguri was a little low balled here, I think with his attendance his wins and losses with Banjo are extremely impressive. I agree that he isn’t currently top 20 but I do feel like he was kinda looked over.
You may as well put Tea (and other players with 2 tournaments should get the same treatment; not sure why you viewed them more objectively) down there with Kameme if you aren’t even going to address him. He’s either 20 or 21 imo.
Tea barely had a Top 8 and a 9th. He’s def a contender but there’s so many contenders that unless you’re the 4 horsemen (Acola Sonix) who can get away with it cuz they’re grands guaranteed players, it’s hard to be considered for even top 20. Kameme only entered one event PERIOD
if he puts up the same calibre of results he'll be in the top 20, especially since those have been the two biggest tournaments of the year so far both being P tier
Onin will probably be top 25 for this season though. And ShinyMark is in a similar spot to DDee tbh where the loss isn't bad at all and it's just a lack of attendance.
the disparity between Tweek results based on Steve legality is evidence Steve banned events should not count for rankings. it's a completely different format & it affects more than just the Steves
tbh in a perfect world we’d just ban steve which is obviously the right thing to do but players have way too much pride, and i’m aware nintendo has made statements against steve-banned tourneys
@@Valentinesdayghost such a dumb argument, im completely fine with there being a best character in the game, but if you can’t tell the way steve invalidates skill in a very tangible way, then you just don’t understand the game, most pro players agree
@@armandperez711 Smash is a children’s party game, skill wasn’t naturally supposed to be built into its design. Steve forces both sides to play creatively, the Steve player to use blocks and TNT to design traps, help approach, and protect while mining, while the opponent has to think outside of the box in order to get around Steve’s setups. He has by far the most advanced techniques out of any character in the entire series, so Steve definitely doesn’t just invalidate skill. Is he somewhat easy to pick up? Yes. Does he have absurd damage output? Yes. But he still takes a whole lot of skill to pilot at top level, such as with acola (aka Tweek’s demon). If it genuinely pains you that much to play against Steve, pick up Cloud or Corrin: easy top tiers with good matchups against Steve. Stop crying because you keep getting destroyed by your local Steve player, and develop counter-play instead of going on the internet and whining about it. Because believe it or not, Steve counter-play exists. I rest my case.
Americans making any list should have an asterisk. Gross overstatement on their own players, minimal inclusion of objectively better ranked players (Neo, Yoshidora, Raflow) meme list.
There's obvious reasons why someone might not put the players you mentioned as top 20 and if you're not willing to acknowledge those reasons then that's on you. Just please keep the xenophobia to yourself.

One of my predictions at the end of 2023 was shadic making it into top 10 in 2024 but I was not expecting it to be this quickly
peabnut my goat
Fr, his run at cirque 3 was crazy
as a MM main he's so inspiring

Miya has the most potential if he could play at his highest level consistently IMO
Players have just adapt to his play style

Hopefully consistently for next few months. That is the goal!

Miya will soon remind everyone that he can contend for the #1 spot. people wrote him off early 2023 too
He just won another Major and a B+ last week. His high attendance means there are some outliers but he's #1 in my view

Acola is such an interesting personality!
Biggest takeaway from the vid is ur tag has to start with S if u wanna win
So does your character

Where would you place Marrs? Top 40? 100? 200? Unranked?
Probably top 50.
is there a world in which bloom makes the midyear bc rn iirc his only major loss is sparg0
Not true, he lost to Jakal at Genesis.
Why Maister is 20? He is like a top 15
