- I've had my Dewalt table saw for a year now , I've been told a cross cut sled is the best thing you can add on to the table saw , so I decided to make one. It's only a small sled , but perfect for my little projects.
Let me know what you think bellow in the comments section (good or bad)...and I will get back to you , thanks
Great job I love seeing you tubers that use tools the majority of us have and can afford.
I hear you Brother 👍 , thanks for watching 🙏 .
Nice piece of work. Simpler than a lot of other sleds I have seen. Great work!
Thanks Mate ! glad you like it - cheers ! ,,, Wally
I had absolutely no clue about what you were constructing until you completed it, and I must say, it's incredibly impressive! Well done, sir!
Thanks for the compliment young man ! Yeah sometimes I have no clue as well & I tend to ''Wing it'' it takes a lot of brain power & creativity !.....it's hard work to wing it well 😁😁
Did you not read the title of the video? It gives you a pretty good clue!
@@kimmytuna5180 nope sure didn’t 🤔😂🤦♂️

So, you consider yourself wise and label me a fool simply because I failed to read the title of a video before responding and acknowledged my mistake? You should be following the advice of Philippians 2:3 Or Mattew 7 NIV
Wally, Just purchased a DWE 7485. This will be my first project. Excellent video.
BTW... can you give a cut list? Thanks again.
@@ramonaguirre1496 Congratulations on your purchase ! the sled will be an excellent acquisition to your new saw . Cheers - Wally .
I clicked on the like button and I wasn’t going to click the subscribe button because I didn’t want to add anymore channels to my list and then I heard that music and you had me Hook. Good video thanks and love that 🎼🎼
@@ronniekotler9265 Thank you Sir , I know the feeling (too many channels) .. much appreciated 🙏🏻
Great work, Looks perfect for those of us with the smaller table saw. Will be attempting to make one of these (after a fair number of years away from doing any woodworking projects). Wish me luck. LOL
Great stuff mate ! my introduction into table saws was a cheap ALDI supermarket model ! The transition to a Dewalt is (night & day)..... let me know how you go mate , cheers !
Ive ordered the exact same saw for Christmas and ill be making one soon after, brill video 👍
@@geraldrees7846 Thanks. , suggestion , upgrade to 40 tooth blade ! much more smooth/clean cuts !
Thank you Sir! Simple yet very functional tool
You're very welcome , thanks for watching friend 🙏
Great video. I am thinking about buying the dewalt table saw but wasn't sure about the rip capacity. Using a sled like this is a game changer. Thanks for the knowledge.
Thanks ! Yep can't go wrong with any Dewalt table saw ! I now rarely use my drop saw , opting for my favourite sled instead
XLNT video! I fairly new to woodworking and bookmarked this for the future when I am ready to build a sled. I'm in the USA and can easily convert to Imperial but maybe I'll just use metric, my rulers have both. Thanks again my friend
I'm glad you enjoyed my sled build ! I'm sure you''ll build an excellent sled ,,,,, let me know how you go ,,, cheers Wally !
I enjoyed your video. Thanks. I'm about to get started on one myself. Liked yours since I have almost the same saw.
Thanks very much , I'm glad you like it ,,,, cheers !!
I have watch this three times. Going to make mine, nice job!!
Thanks so much Fred ! let me know how you go mate ! ''cheers''

Grazie mille, sono felice che ti piaccia il mio video tutorial. Il mio prossimo progetto sarà una maschera rastremata da montare accanto alla sega Dewalt, saluti a tutti i miei cugini friulani !
I just made one for my saw. Love this sled, game changer for me in my shop. Thanks
Yup ! the sled has replaced my drop saw , Cheers mate...

Nice job! Just two questions. Why wax bottom of runners? They dont touch. Why go to the trouble of building the plexiglass guard. I would add a solid block of plywood and place a stop on the side of the sled that will hit a stop on the side of the saw preventing it from traveling too far. Also you can put a short extension on the back edge of the sled so it will hit the back of the saw table.
G'day William , In regards to your first question (Wax)... if you'll notice I didn't wax the bottom of the runners only the inner edges and sled base ! ...the fibre-glass (plexiglass guard) seems to have gotten me many favoirable responses , ,,,, at the end of the day , there are dozens of different versions on TH-cam platform , I've simply added my own style,,,thanks for your comment & watching .
Nice job, sir. That was a good watch.
Thanks Keith , I'm glad you enjoyed the video, cheers !
For your glueups try using a silicon kitchen spatula. It is a versatile spreader and nothing sticks to it so cleanups take moments.
Thanks for the Tip ! I'll keep that in mind next glue up ! '' cheers ''
The wife must LOOOOVE you ;)
Great tip! I'll definitely do that next time.
nice craftsmanship ! Thank you.
Thank you so much ! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙏
well done, my next sled
Nice Job Sir!!
Thanks ! I'm glad you like it , "cheers"
Look good well done
Thanks Bill , glad you like it 👍
I bought the same table saw and had the need for a sled as well, but mine will be centered over the runners. I swapped out the blade for the 40 tooth version right away. Working on the sled this weekend. Went with 1/2 inch plywood to cut down on weight. Still looking for some decent material for runners as I don't want to use wood. I spent a lot of time setting up my saw blade skew and zero angle adjustment. That was a pain to set the zero. I still don't understand how on earth anyone would be so careless as to put their thumbs in the path of the blade but there is a lot of other safety concerns that do worry me while working with tools like this. Probably will make a panel sled that has no back section and just one runner next.
@@michaelkrailo5725 wow ! it looks like you’ve done your home work ! I used a very dense hardwood (runners) , & so far no expansion/width issues , maybe because it’s stored in a cool place (garage) , I too upgraded to 40 tooth blade , did you have any issues with the upgrade blade & riving knife ?
@@wallytrinc9885 I haven't noticed any problem with the riving knife alignment, but all I did is check to make sure both blades were the same thickness and the cuts are working out well for my purposes. It visually looks good to me. I keep checking and rechecking alignment of everything just in case it moves on me, but so far it's been enjoyable to work on even without the sled. I just modified my push stick so it has a strip of grippy rubber on the edge so it grabs the wood better. The aluminum miter tracks came in today and I found that both channels in the DeWalt cast aluminum table had imperfections that needed to be filed down to enable the new tracks to run smoothly in each channel. Most of the problems were near the out feed portion of each channel. I'll finish up the sled soon and finally be able to work on some projects.
Un buon attrezzo congratulazioni
@@sv7588 Grazie mille 🙏
Nice job! Congrats!
Thank you , no need to use my drop saw anymore .
One suggestion. Use UHMW plastic for the runners instead of wood. Plastic unlike wood will not expand and contract due to humidity changes. 3/4 Baltic birch works great for the base too.
Great suggestion ! I took all of that (expansion of runners) into consideration , hence I chose a merbau species , it's natural oils & high density acts as barrier , with a very low/nil expansion/shrinkage rate . It is the go to choice for outdoor flooring/decking here in Aus . ''cheers''
Looks the goods there Mr Wal
Thanks mate 🙏
Perfect video....Thanks !
Glad you liked it Mark ..... Cheers Mate !
Grüße aus Deutschland! Schöne Arbeit👌
Vielen Dank, mein Freund. Ich wünschte nur, ich hätte (2) T/Schienen mit Klemmhaltern für kleine Schnitte hinzugefügt.
Das ist doch das schöne wenn man selber etwas entwirft, es hört nie auf 😂
Insane amount of glue sir and did the rear of the fence need to be so hefty? 😮
Great video, thank you
Thanks for the Compliment ! and thanks for watching 👍
I suppose you could do one of these at 45degrees blade angle joint?
@@andygillott6797 yup ! You sure could 👍
Since you're screwing the runners on anyway - use double-sided tape instead of glue. Much quicker and gives the possibility of changing the runners if needed...
Great suggestion !
Ive never seen the AEG brand of power tools. Looks like ridgid , a brand home Depot has in the USA. two questions... Do you have ridgid, now wondering if you have home Depot in your parts. God bless
Hi , correct , the Ridgid brand has been re-named AEG here in Australia & I'm more than happy with their products , we don't have a Home Depot , our biggest hardware chain is Bunnings.com.au , thanks for watching Casey 🙏
You seem to get a very clean cut. I was wondering what blade you are using?
Supplied Dewalt 210mm (8 1/4'' ) diameter blade with 24 teeth , great on the sled ,,,,not so great on heavy rip cuts , require upgrade to 40 or 60 teeth blade for clean cuts...

Questions for you, why do you have high part of the back and top fence offset to one side vs being in the middle ? Is there a reason for this or just personal preference.
I like to have the bulk of material on my right hand side as I favour my right hand , so I copied the other side fence just to match , thanks .
That is way too much wood for that little construction workbench table saw. You could’ve went with half inch plywood and that would’ve been perfect and then for your two stabilizers those are way too thick.. very nice job but way overkill
This is the second instance of a disparaging remark on my channel, the first being my dog kennel and now my sled build.
I have chosen not to delete or block your comments but rather address them directly. I must emphasize that I am neither an expert woodworker nor a builder, but rather an individual learning from others and making an earnest effort.
Creating quality content on my channel requires considerable time and effort, and I acknowledged from the outset that some viewers might offer negative feedback, potentially as a means of self-aggrandizement.
My question to you, given your apparent expertise and skill set, is whether you would consider establishing your own woodworking channel, thereby allowing us to provide constructive criticism of your work?
Regards, Wally

Que de colle !!!
trop de colle n'est jamais assez !
Great video. I'll definitely be incorporating some of these ideas into my sled so thank you.
How does the sled deal with supporting longer pieces? Say I had to put a dado slot into the end of a piece that was maybe a metre long. Would the sled support that?
Hi David ,
you make two interesting points ! you'll notice the sled is off/centre , allowing more material to rest on the r/h/side, 700mm length is do-able , I've not attempted a metre long length as of yet , I would imagine it would need (2) clamps to secure it along the front fence .
In regards to the dado (blade) honestly they're a grey area here in Aus , because the guard & riving knife have to be removed,,,, the fun Police have deliberately fitted short arbors to prevent their use , deeming the dodo blade unsafe. I believe this to be the case both in the UK (EU) table saws , obviously not the case in the USA ?
Thanks for replying. I'm from the UK and yes it's the same here. I wouldn't want to use the table saw without a riving knife, that's just asking for trouble. The dado example was just the first thing that came into my head.
700mm is still a decent size capacity.
@@davidhaydon4720 Thanks David Cheers mate 👍
why not use 2x4 instead of 3 layers of plywood?
Why is the back fence so thick?
Personal preference .

Quick question. Why did you use wood instead of UHMW or a similar polymer for the runners? Do you have plans for sale?
Hi , I used material that I had at my disposal , bee's wax works wonders underneath,,,,, sorry not for sale my friend .
nice sled but u kinda went over board with the screws(in my opinion)..lol
Thanks Buddy ,,,, I appreciate your feedback, cheers 🍻
why three layers of ply for the rear fence? That seems to be way overkill. One ply should have been sufficient for rear fence
Probably to allow for two rows of screws. Makes sense.
