I think the only time Pau really looks at her drums, is to admire them before she crushes them again. I love how all three of them jump on the timing in between beats all throughout this song. Very complex. Nice presentation Don....
I was lucky to be one of those in the audience just six feet from stage centre. Before the performance whispers quickly circulated that "Apologize" was going to be song six on the set list (I think someone took a picture of the set list taped to the floor so they could read it). High fives and shouts of joyful anticipation echoed through the hall. Later, as Dany was introducing the song, I noticed a sustained, seeming nervous glance between Ale and Pau which seemed to say, "Well, here goes nothing...!" Nice analysis of Dany's retrieving the slide from the mic stand. She was SO focused on the beginning of the song, it seemed that she needed to keep herself that tightly controlled in order not to fumble the retrieval of the slide. She did it SO well making the rest of us ecstatic at the result of her diligent practice (and all while on tour, for crying out loud!). I had been looking around for a keyboard since that is what is on the album, but I like the choice they made to stick with just Dany and the guitar for the coda at the end. Thank you for your excellent analysis. It brings back wonderful memories.
Fabulous breakdown, as always Don! Nice to see some of my footage sneak into the mix. It was a privilege to witness the live debut of this song from the third row in front of Dany - she did well on her first venture into playing the slide live! I'm not sure if it was caught in this video, but there was a quick look between Ale and Pau near the start of the song - as if to say, "Here goes nothing - I hope it goes well!" Looking forward to more videos Don - thanks for this one. 👍
In the little track by track videos for this whole album, Dany says, I stretched myself vocally and musically. It dawned on her during the first practice, “I have to learn to do them at the same time”.
Great job pointing out the nuances! Don, can you believe this is the live debut? This is such a challenging song to play and they nailed it. They must have practiced constantly. When we hear it again it’ll actually be even better. They are phenomenal.
There are so many things in this video/song. It takes some real huevos to even attempt this with only three people. Not sure why some still put Dany down for her guitar skills. That strum, hold, palm, grap, place, pick, strum again 2 seconds takes a lot of practice to have full confidence for sure. Isn't it great to have three competent vocalists who can mulit-task with their instruments. Dany playing the keyboard outro on guitar. Immediately after Ale's last note, you see her right hand turn her volume nob down in the same motion of her finger release. I have seen her do this a lot. I have never seen her use any type of mute pedal or other electronic signal stop. I can also tell that after more than half a dozen shows on the rail in front of Ale, there is no recording gear or home stereo system that can capture and replicate what it FEELS like to be at a The Warning show. I was about 2m in front of the subs aslt fall in Monterrey. It was almost discomforting at the beginning of the show how much my innards were feeling Ale's bass.
Thank you for this great reaction and analysis! Always appreciate detailed analysis from those who know what they're seeing and hearing at a technical level - helps break it down and make it clear for laypeople like me.
If you check out the video shot by Sesipro he concentrates almost exclusively on Ale and a lot on her hands. When Dany does the intro Ale is doing a dry run of her part on the bass. Pretty cool.
This was the second show I made it to and I am so happy I got to see this LIVE!! It was AWESOME!! another couple little details I noticed in the beginning when Dany starts singing Pau signals to someone at the sound board to turn up something, then gives them a thumbs up. In another video at a different angle, Ale looks back at Pau while Dany is starting to sing and gets a little smirk from Pau, not sure what was going on. Check out the video from Redog75, he was front and center on the rail...
I’ve seen Ale have trouble on the song Burn Out. When they first were doing it live there is cell phone footage of her trying to get it right. It’s in the middle of the song in one part. I’ve seen it twice. I think she has it down pat now.
Only good thing about them not coming to Texas lately is when they do we'll likely get Apologize now. Hasn't been announced yet but I can feel it for 2025.
It’s funny now thinking about it. People in the front row were straining to get pictures of the setlist & everyone on discord was analyzing the blurry images…. & if we’d just looked up, there was the slide on her mic stand proud as can be😂
Thanks for the fantastic reaction, Don! You picked up details I hadn't noticed. Did anyone else notice that just as Dany is reaching for the slide for the VERY FIRST TIME EVER on stage, the lyrics she's singing are "I don't mean to make you nervous". Isn't that ironic, don't you think? I know *I* was nervous for her, watching that slide grab!
Interesting thought! Always the perfectionist, and i think she won’t delay practicing if she is pissed that she missed something. Just the impression i get. Very interesting possibility, you brought up!
This kind of goes back to your analysis of the lyric video when you talked about Ale's hidden bass solo, but more often these days, when I tell people about the band I'll say that Dany is the guitar player and lead vocalist, Pau is the drummer and background vocalist and lead vocalist on a few songs, and Ale is the lead bassist and background vocalist. When some people look confused and say "Lead bassist? Are there two bass players?", I'll say that the rhythm bassist is Pau's right foot. I hope that in the future the band will write songs that let Ale go completely mental on the bass - maybe even 4 to 8 bars of an actual bass solo - one that's soloier (yes, I'm inventing a new word) than her opening bass lines on Disciple and Dust to Dust.
Brenda Martin of Eruca Sativa plays actual bass solos and Ale spent extra time with her way back during the Trio Tour. So hopefully yes. I'm positive that Ale is fully capable of ripping out some remarkable solos if she wants to. Especially given her finger stretch. When she was teaching Dany a bass part they held their hands up against each other and Ale has much more stretch than Dany.
Thanks Don, your analysis is my go to. Your musical knowledge pointing out the nuances of their performance makes the experience even better. This song is a masterpiece and it’s should be pushed by the label.
Did you see them last night on MTV EMA's from Manchester. They killed it in front of the biggest names in teh business. I don't think most of the audience was ready for real rock and roll. It's up on MTV's channel.
I staked out my spot early near the sound board like I usually do. I saw the set list taped to the side of the board and saw Apologize on the list... snapped a quick pic and texted it to Ashlena, but she must have already put her phone in airplane mode so didn't respond 'til long after the show. I was eagerly anticipating this all show! Thanks for this video.
They are still polishing their live treatment. Considering the challenges of this song - particularly Dany's use of a slide, which is something she only learned when they were recording this song - this is remarkably well done. We can only hope that Ale continues to expand her role as a vocalist, holding out hope that someday there will be a song on which she performs the lead vocal from studio to live.
Agreed, but this sounded pretty damn finished to me! Other than missing the bg vox in that one part, which might be by necessity, it was absolutely excellent!
Hi Don, thanks, great reaction and analysis. You picked my fav multicam. And I also noticed this Alejandras practicing at the end, she is amazing. There is even one better fancam recording to see it.
I did notice one thing on *"KMF".* According to the credits. Ale never sang backup on the album. Dany & Pau (plus other vocalists) were credited with backup. But Ale is backing up a lot live on *KMF* songs. Sooooooo it's clear what's going on for their live shows. *Pau is immortal after all.* Not some *Superhuman* we all want her to be.
I think that Pau wasn't feeling great this night. She seemed a bit more subdued during the performance yet fully professional. During her introduction of the final song ("Evolve" of course), she confessed how VERY tired they were. Perhaps that is why Ale was singing more of the backup.
When Dany does chords in the other songs she holds her middle finger way down near the bottom string I think is high E string (not a musician). So when she is wearing the guitar slide in this song, her finger must want to bend inside the slide. It might even hurt a bit. Do understand what I’m saying. Nice job, by you and of course TW.
I think Ale may be getting a little more confidence. I've thought she has had a great voice since hearing her small part in choke. and she has been talking a little more in their interviews, giving their back story. as an introvert myself I get not wanting to talk vs being afraid to talk, and understand not wanting to sing. I hated that the most in school music class. all 3 know how to get he greatest tones from their instruments, it seems for every song.
I think the only time Pau really looks at her drums, is to admire them before she crushes them again.
I love how all three of them jump on the timing in between beats all throughout this song. Very complex.
Nice presentation Don....
Thanks Don ! Great reaction and analysis as always. Greetings from France 🟦⬜🟥🤘😉

I also didn’t think she might have tuned her guitar differently than standard E. So good catch that definitely would make it easier.
As always Don, great analysis/breakdown of the song and the band. The song structure is fire.

Don’s “quick video” - 21:00 long. 🤣🤣🤣
I love love love Ale's fret work on this song. Some of best she's ever come up with!
Thanks for the fantastic reaction, Don! You picked up details I hadn't noticed.

Nice Alanis reference 😉
Great analysis, Don!
Absolutely awesome live performance!!
They did a superb job!
They are the Queens of the music scene!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
Thank you Don-Music. It is always interesting to hear your comments.
Ale practicing it at that time, makes me think she may have missed something, we didn’t know about.
Interesting thought! Always the perfectionist, and i think she won’t delay practicing if she is pissed that she missed something. Just the impression i get.
Very interesting possibility, you brought up!
Somebody said Ale is checking her tuning on her footboard for the next song. Enjoyed your analysis. 😎👍
it's always a pleasur to watch you reaction and analysis !!
Have you watch the cover of Alanis Morisette You oughta know ?
They kill it

Yes! I saw that video where Ale was teaching Dany the bass line from Z! Maybe she just needs to be more comfortable as the centre of attention.

Thanks Don for a great analysis. It was great live, and it'll only get better the more they play it. Keep Rockin' my TWA brother 🤘⚡🤘.
Great performance.

Why at 3:41 do you give us the middle finger Don, what have we done to deserve such disrespect. HEHE! 😜
🤘
The Warning math. 100% times three equals a 300% performance.
