A 13 year old little Mexican genius wrote, in my opinion (based on personal experience), one of the most hauntingly accurate songs about addiction. Ever.
Pau wrote Black Holes (Don’t Hold On) when she was just 13, inspired by the struggles of someone battling addiction and the weight of their inner demons. While the song isn’t written from personal experience-Pau wasn’t addicted to anything herself-she has an incredible ability to put herself in someone else’s shoes and channel their emotions. The song paints a haunting picture of a protagonist caught in a spiral of despair, recognizing their self-destruction and pushing others away to protect them. The metaphor of black holes captures the consuming darkness swallowing them whole, leaving them feeling empty, broken, and isolated. Lines like “I thought I’d won all my different battles” and “I got nothing left” show their painful realization that the damage runs deeper than they thought. With the repeated plea of “don’t hold on,” the song becomes a heart-wrenching cry for release, as the protagonist faces the unbearable pull of their own struggles and the harm they bring to those who try to stay close.
@ she wasn’t addicted to anything. Sorry,I should have made that more clear. This is not written from personal experience. Pau has an amazing ability to put herself into other’s shoes and channel their emotions. I think she had read an article,or maybe it was someone she knew? I’m not sure.

One of the wildest things about her is that duality of being so full of herself yet open and curious about imagining other people's lives and experiences. She really has both sides of the creative person's toolkit there. Dany can make you feel seen and engaged more than anyone, but Pau can tell you what it's like to be you. IE, Dany has a more mirroring presence, but Pau has more insight into what mirrors are all about.

I really enjoyed you restructuring the reaction to suit the ballad; Above all else I think your genuine respect for music and what it 'needs' for a compliment from a reactor is without equal.
This was the video I didn’t know I needed, this evening. Thanks, Phil. Pau is .. Wow.. all I can say. Breathe is a good next step. I’d suggest you extract it from the full concert, as the English captions are correct and a lot of the viewers won’t understand her opening, without them.
I totally agree. Please extract it from the whole-concert video, instead of the singly released video. It makes the whole video much more powerful to the average english speaker.
Breaks me every time thinking about all of those that we buried because they fell into their black holes. Our generation has too many sad stories and we have a new generation to tell them.
Writing this song at 13 is incredible. The maturity level of the lyrics is something that must have amazed everyone she showed it too. I don’t know what the article she read said, but she managed to write something from the perspective of the addict filled with self pity yet still compassionate enough to tell someone they care about to just forget about them. That level of talent is not something you usually see in someone of that age. It’s just one of those things that makes me think about how proud her parents her and her sisters
Oh hi Phil! I was a little bored this night and watched a bunch of your TW reactions and just in that moment a new one popped up! Great work, keep going! edit: speaking of song requests: ERROR, Consume would be great!
Great job, Phil! This is a song about addiction, written by Pau at 13 or so. She nailed it. It gets me every time. She so accurately portrays the desolation and destruction of the disease. Add piano and strings, and 8000 people cried. Bring tissues for *Breathe.* You will need them.

I'm glad you finally listened to this song 😊 I know you're not going to react to it again but do yourself a favor and watch the Dakota version of Black Holes, it has a much younger Pau standing behind a keyboard singing her heart out for a small crowd, her sisters join with their instruments and backing vocals. There are no violins or huge crowds it's just you and them. Far more intimate, watch that video for yourself and enjoy. Keep up the good work, truly appreciate it Phil 🤘 th-cam.com/video/lM8KeQ_tNQc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9H3R-PYn2vjJv2qI
It’s all good Phil. Pau can cause these emotions in any man or woman that has a ❤️ heart. Many of us have had the same type of experience that you just had. When the eyes begin to water 💦 , it shows how this young lady can really make your emotions flow forth.
I'm so glad you did a video on Black Holes. Pau's ability to express her deepest, most vulnerable self and emotions with music is simply amazing, especially for someone so young! 💖 💖 💖 I just read in the other comments here that this was written by Pau at 13 with love and empathy for a friend who was in the grips of addiction. I come from that experience with alcoholism and drugs (the drugs were a high school thing). I started drinking around 10 and was finally able to get sober at 28 (I'm 34 yrs sober now). This one makes me cry every time - no matter how many times I listen to it. The amount and depth of her empathy for the struggles of others is amazing and absolutely laid bare in this performance. Thank you Paulina! 💖💖💖
Phil, she got us all. Last time I had tears was when my children were born. Pau’s emotional and beautiful voice melted me even as I watched this today. You can actually feel her emotions. Now if you want a complete breakdown and sob for days watch the video after this one. To this day, I won’t watch it again, it’s that powerful.
@gregjetnikoff7124 The Warning grew up watching Queen, Elton John, and many great artists in concert. To them, this is how great concerts should be played: talent at its finest, as opposed to the current style, which is mostly pyrotechnics and big costumes. We are lucky to have people around today who put talent above all else. 👌
At first, I was a little concerned that you talked through, and looked away from, the video when Pau stopped singing... there is a look of surprise on her face at that moment, which, to me, was a moment of awe and internal recognition that she really is a bona fide rock star. You started the song over and did not disappoint. Thank you for your heartfelt feel-Zero reaction. Looking forward to Breathe.
She did this, then Breathe, then went back to the drum kit and cranked into "Enter Sandman." Genius isn't quite the right word. It's way more than that.
You nailed it Phil. One of their main criticisms is that their songs are too simple. Many song writers have said (including Pau), is that one of the hardest things to do is to write a simple song. Black Holes is a prime example of that. When you pull Black Holes apart, it's more complex than the average listener realizes. It's what makes TW songs so good because many of them start right here with Pau on the piano. When you add Dany and Ale's unique abilities to "rockify" on top of Pau's beginnings, and "Warnify" them, you get hooky songs that you find yourself humming for the rest of the day. Simple....I think not. I think unique and creative, with complex timing and melody additions throughout the songs that go unnoticed by the average listener. My guess is, there won't be many covers of TW songs that approach the impact of an original TW song. Always enjoy your breakdowns.....
Yesterday and today were very rough days to me (to say the least). But listening to Pau singing so beautifully, so passionately, instantly made me feel better. I dunno what it is. Is the way their build their music for sure, but it's something that goes beyond the music. Their voices? Indeed, but not only their voices. The lyrics? Yeah, but there's more than that. Their carisma? Certainly it's a good part of it. Whatever the reason(s), these girls lift me up everytime I feel down and defeated. And for that, I'll be forever grateful to them. ♥️ Gracias por compartir y analizar "Black Holes", Phil. No sabía lo mucho que necesitaba escuchar esa canción hasta que la comencé a oír. Saludos a la Sra. Zero desde el Golfo de México. 🤘🏻🇲🇽⚡
She is still and will remain my favorite Genius on this planet 🎯💖🔥💎 And her sisters are just as amazing 🤘😎👍 Oh yeah, Fantastic job as always Phil 🎉 ✌️💖🎼🎶
Pau gets all of us… she has that ability to express her empathy musically, and fill us with her emotions. I think that’s why The Warning works. Pau writes these incredible songs but it takes all 3 of them to express it musically.. 😎 Oh, BTW, I want pizza now, too!
If you are doing Breathe at the Pepsi Center next, just so you know Pau does a bit of an introduction in Spanish before she starts singing. If you want subtitles you'll have to turn on auto-generated and auto-translated ones, which are not the best. OR you could skip to Breathe in the Full Concert video, which has the subtitles embedded in the video itself.
This song is very special to me (aside from this with the string section being the best version): it was my introduction to The Warning when years ago I came across the Dakota Bar version. I was so blown away by that performance that I sat there awestruck. That same evening, I had bought and downloaded all their music available then from their website. I've never stopped listening since. I'm a metal head, but according to Spotify, im also in the top 0.05 percent of their listeners and they were my most streamed band in 2023 and 2024.
hi Phil, please react to Breath next, Pau plays it right after this song, and it was a gift to the people who attended the concert and to all of us who were able to see it on TH-cam since it is a song that she said she would never play live. Another interpretation that shows why these sisters are a world treasure that must be protected. ⚡🤘⚡🤘⚡🤘
*Black Holes* a song about addiction written by 13yo Pau (drums)... it was released on their 1st album, _"XXI Century Blood"_ back on Mar 27, 2017 when they were an independent band... this track/song hits very close to home for many listeners... especially if they have dealt with addiction of their own or that of someone close to them... This song was slow and simple rather than complex and wild like their other songs, so I really appreciated your approach to this one - more listening and enjoying the melody and lyrics rather than analyzing.
Do Breathe and then When I'm Alone for the Feeel Zero trifecta! And then work your way through the rest of the Pepsi Center concert - I learn something new from all of your breakdowns, even when I've heard the song dozens of times before.
Yes, do breathe next, but please stick with this format (at least for breathe) of listen all the way and then break it down. Also, you will NEED subtitles for Pau's most personal song, that she swore she would never play live.
Thank you, Phil, for just listening to the performance and absorbing it. I first saw her performance this live many years ago. It wrecked me then, and again this time. She is a force of nature. You just listening this time was 100% the right call.

this song has brought many a grown man to tears...or were they just cutting onions? But to think how she could write something so meaningful a such a young age. Look forward to Breathe... but be sure to have the CC on for the beginning atleast. anyways another good review Phil and have a good day/night cioa for now from another fellow BC(Victoria) Canadian 🤘🏾⚡
Phil -thank you for your thoughtful reaction to this beautiful song. It holds special meaning for me as I have lost family members and friends into the black hole of drugs and alcohol. I miss them dearly.
Almost all of their songs start out as ballads on a piano. Then all three of them "Warningfy" it with guitar, bass, and drums. But there are a few special exceptions where it is only Pau on piano or Dany on guitar. Although all three play piano very well, Pau seems to have maintained her skill on the instrument, if for no other reason than she uses a MIDI keyboard plugged into her computer or a piano to compose songs. Word of advice, have captions turned on for Breathe. Pau talks at bit before the actual song starts and what she says is important to understanding the emotional nature of the song.
The thing about The Warning is how they create such moments and truly feel them. It shines out from their beings - that they love SO MUCH what they are doing and they communicate it so beautifully and professionally.
Another great analysis for another great song. Can't wait to see you react to Breathe... And if you want to see the original version of Black Holes, Pau with her sisters, try the live @ Dakota Bar, another heartbreaking version.
Ufffff, this song and Breathe that comes after it completely break me every time I listen to them and it is impossible for me not to cry. Seeing Pau with that feeling, the string arrangements give it a much more epic touch. I guess personal situations make me feel those songs are a bit mine. Thanks Phil

What a gorgeous performance. Thanks for reacting to this.
Breaks me every time thinking about all of those that we buried because they fell into their black holes. Our generation has too many sad stories and we have a new generation to tell them.
Great way of putting it. Well said 🫶🤘
Always enjoy your reactions…. Breathe is heartbreaking…. Phil you are awesome!
Notificación de reacción de Phil, aquí estamos enseguida. Like inmediatamente también 😀
Thank you for letting us know that you plan to do Breathe next. That means we can all make sure we have tissues handy. If you think this song made you feel, wait until Breathe.
Two firsts, listen to a song all the way through and buckets of tears. This is only one of several awesome tearjerkers they have.
Always appreciate your analysis Phil!! I keep learning why I like certain things in music!!!
Duuuuuude! You went there! Awesome! Grats. I'm going to get a new box of tissues before I watch your reaction.
I'm glad you finally listened to this song 😊
I know you're not going to react to it again but do yourself a favor and watch the Dakota version of Black Holes, it has a much younger Pau standing behind a keyboard singing her heart out for a small crowd, her sisters join with their instruments and backing vocals. There are no violins or huge crowds it's just you and them. Far more intimate, watch that video for yourself and enjoy. Keep up the good work, truly appreciate it Phil 🤘

Yes! That was a great performance!
It’s all good Phil. Pau can cause these emotions in any man or woman that has a ❤️ heart. Many of us have had the same type of experience that you just had. When the eyes begin to water 💦 , it shows how this young lady can really make your emotions flow forth.
The way she kills that drum kit, I would never imagined this. What else can she do? I'm becoming more impressed with these girls by the minute.
I'm so glad you did a video on Black Holes.
Pau's ability to express her deepest, most vulnerable self and emotions with music is simply amazing, especially for someone so young!
💖 💖 💖
I just read in the other comments here that this was written by Pau at 13 with love and empathy for a friend who was in the grips of addiction.
Fecks sake, was finally going to bed then I saw this video drop...Damn you Phil I'm knackered. Wasn't she just perfect though! I melted
oh yes, and if you are tearful now, best get an emotional support animal in for Breathe, just sayin, prepare yourself
And this is what makes The Warning different from the rest of the new bands. ✌️😎
This is what makes TW different from almost every band ever....
@gregjetnikoff7124
The Warning grew up watching Queen, Elton John, and many great artists in concert.
A bad simple song is easy to make. A good simple song,.another matter. As Phil well said everything needs to be work and work well and sound good.
@@carlossaraiva8213 That's why they're hard to write.
I believe Pau wrote this song when she was 13, Pau is prodigy!
She's brilliant singer powerful.
Pau’s genius on full display.
Gracias por compartir y analizar "Black Holes", Phil. No sabía lo mucho que necesitaba escuchar esa canción hasta que la comencé a oír.
Saludos a la Sra. Zero desde el Golfo de México. 🤘🏻🇲🇽⚡
Dany also has a solo moment at this same concert when it's just her and her guitar for When I'm Alone. I absolutely love the lyrics for that song!!
Great reaction and breakdown of the song Phil. 👍👍
She is still and will remain my favorite Genius on this planet
🎯💖🔥💎
And her sisters are just as amazing 🤘😎👍
Oh yeah, Fantastic job as always Phil 🎉
✌️💖🎼🎶
Pau gets all of us… she has that ability to express her empathy musically, and fill us with her emotions. I think that’s why The Warning works. Pau writes these incredible songs but it takes all 3 of them to express it musically.. 😎
Oh, BTW, I want pizza now, too!
I was there, and I was bawling!!! It´s a beautiful song
I was really happy to see you put a new one this evening bud.
Yes, Breathe next please. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for reacting to “Black holes” .
I will be waiting for “Breathe” anxiously!! 🙌
⚡🤘⚡🤘⚡🤘
*Black Holes*
a song about addiction written by 13yo Pau (drums)... it was released on their 1st album, _"XXI Century Blood"_ back on Mar 27, 2017 when they were an independent band...
this track/song hits very close to home for many listeners... especially if they have dealt with addiction of their own or that of someone close to them...
TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
You are the only reactor that I watch the videos from start to finish, siempre el mejor análisis.. Breathe is a MUST! Next
IMO, one of the greatest songs of all time!
Great job as always Phil. I was just thinking I could rea lly use a Phil Zero The Warning reaction today and there you are! Thanks for posting this for me!
I was unfortunately one of the people she's talking about. This makes me cry every time. 😢
If you do Breath please do it from this concert. Make sure you have tissues! 😢
When Pau stops singing at the first chorus, she's overwhelmed by the crowd singing back to her.
Broo, if u did this song, really need to hear and make “Breathe” in a video 💔
He's not ready......
Si reaccionas a the warning tienes garantía de vistas por la infinidad de fans fieles que tienen estas chicas, tan talentosas y bien educadas. Yo las amo, las sigo desde sus inicios.🤟
The way Pau sings "throw" in the line "throw the phone away" is so much fun to sing along to and mimic. That is my non musician take on this song. Love hearing the more detailed analysis.
it feels weird seeing Phil not pause for the entire song 😂
Such a beautiful performance.
Great reaction!
Absolutely wonderful live performance!!
Paulina is a true artist who conveys many emotions!
She is a treasure for all humanity!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
this song has brought many a grown man to tears...or were they just cutting onions? But to think how she could write something so meaningful a such a young age. She is good at making us feel the songs she sings on piano or like Narcisista the energy she puts into them. Look forward to Breathe... but be sure to have the CC on for the beginning atleast. anyways another good review Phil and have a good day/night cioa for now from another fellow BC(Victoria) Canadian 🤘🏾⚡
Saw a Phil Zero reaction video of the Warning. Hit LIKE. Will watch shortly…
Phil -thank you for your thoughtful reaction to this beautiful song. It holds special meaning for me as I have lost family members and friends into the black hole of drugs and alcohol. I miss them dearly.
Please do REVENANT live from Teatro Metropolitan, one of the most beautiful songs from them.
Thanks Phil. I'll assume you already reacted to Breathe soon to be posted. No one makes it through that video without being changed.
Outstanding review of a magical performance. Thanks Phil.
I've heard this before but just looked up the lyrics. Unreal that her 13 yr old self wrote this. Soul crushing depth for a person that age.
Thanks Phil
Man, you're the person responsible for my addiction on The Warning!
Of course that I already knew the girls and their music, I already like it, but your videos makes me feel more attached to their songs... that's really really cool!
Thank you for those videos ;)
This song means a lot to me for personal reasons her performance was incredible especially knowing she was sick. The strings added to the emotion that last belt was amazing and the crowd reaction gave me chills. Great reaction thank you Phil. 🔥⚡
Soy como una pizza 😂😂. Aquí viendo el análisis de mi banda favorita con Filiberto y nada más! 🍕
