Am getting back into fishing after 40 years away. On the Mississippi. Your video is educational and relaxing. You’re like the Bob Ross of fishing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am the guy you met at the boat ramp with the blue truck. Seemed like you couldn't get on them that day. Bummer, but a day out fishing is better than not going fishing lol Good luck to you and the gf on your next fishing trip. Hope to see you out their again.
Look into a kayak, this is my first full year with a boat and before this I kayak fished all the rivers. But a cheaper sit on top and install a trolling motor mount and you can go pretty much anywhere!
I appreciate how you showed the amount of work and time that went into hooking that giant. You were committed to that big bite and it’s not instant gratification. Many people including myself can learn perseverance from this! Also I would love to pick your brain on YT and how to grow my channel!
Go to my insta and send me a dm and I’ll give you my number, next time I’m gonna long drive to a fishing spot or trip we can talk over the phone about YT, sound good? Ans thanks haha, it takes a lot of time to find the big ones.
Congrats on the pike. I'm still after my 40 incher. I had to laugh when you said to picture you throwing a huge lure in-between all the walleye fishermen, because that's exactly what I do.
It sure is fun, people always call me crazy when I throw big baits. I pulled up to 20 boats up by the dam and chucked my 9 inch glide and let me tell you, every single one of those boats turned and looked at me after they heard the splash 😂😂😂
"No NET Nathan"! YIKES! You handled it well though. Wore her out first! What a monster for sure! I do the same thing when I catch a trophy. I totally worry about getting her back to the water asap instead of getting the girth. You did good!
@NASPELTZ i was just wondering, i just got into pike fishing and i have the right lures and even steel liters but i was just wondering do you think 30lb braid works for catching pike or maybe accidently musky, im just scared of my line snapping or something and losing some of my fav lures Edit: also i have a medium action bait caster. if that matters at all
Hey bro especially for a spinning reel the max I personally think you should be using for big pike is 15 you casting with get really grainy after that you just need your drag set, a net, and know how to properly fight a fish and your good your line won’t snap just don’t use 30lb line imo
With pike and musky letting them fight isn’t the best thing to do, especially musky letting them fight can kill them. I always run heavy gear to get the fish in fast and not tire them out
this advice is really good for me from you so I can keep the fish that I catch healthy and not even close to death thank you :) and also Naspeltz your my fav TH-camr I watch you every dya
I get looked at when people are fishing walleye in one of my spots, and I throw a musky bait😂. Those big predators follow the walleye. Nice pike, man! A beast!! Well done!
You know it, where there is walleye and smaller fish there will be aggressive pike, exspeically shallow or by a creek that runs into a river or lake. Thanks for watching
@NASPELTZ we have large pike here in the United Kingdom and that's a fish that's easily up there with them. Interesting fact is we weigh them rather than measure their length before release. Though I think your way gives a better indication. Tight lines.
@rabadabadoo491 I’m working on getting a tripped plan to go fish pike in the UK, it’s been on my bucket list for a very long time. I don’t like weighing them because I don’t want to hold them vertical, is there a way you guys do it that is safer for the fish? I also like to learn new things. What’s your pb pike? I’d love to know
@NASPELTZ so my pb is 25 pound which is a decent fish but not huge. We count anything over 20 as a good trophy. 30's are massive and a 35+ really is a mega pike! Fish welfare is really important to us as well. So we use unhooking mats and then a sling to weigh them. It's a bit like a hammock to support them horizontal. We have two main styles okpike fishing here. Bank fishing with dead baits, where we will fish several rods baited with dead fish and stay in the say swim for long periods, waiting it out. Lure fishing, similar to you guys but the boats generally aren't any where near as nice. Some people also use longer rods and fixed spool reels rather than baitcasting multipliers One other fun fact is we all use what you generally call left handed reels. That way we fish with the rod in our dominant hand and don't need to switch it.
Pikes are protacanthopterygian ray-finned fish that constitute the family Esocidae, they are the only extant family of the order Esociformes, there are over eight extant species under three genera and are native only to the Northern Hemisphere continents, the eight extant species of pike are the Redfin Pickerel (Luciella americana), the Grass Pickerel (Luciella vermiculata), the Chain Pickerel (Luciella nigra), the Northern Pike (Esox lucius), the Amur Pike (Esox reichertii), the Aquitanian Pike (Esox aquitanicus), the Cisalpine Pike (Esox cisalpinus), and the Muskellunge (Moschulongius masquinongy).
Hahah you guys were awesome, im happy you were there to celebrate with me. I decided just to grab by hand than risk hurting the fish with a walleye net.
i don't know how u do it Nathan i have been out for the past week on hard bodies just like those ones and haven't caught a single thing on either hard body or soft plastics. 😭😭😭😭😭😭Any way much love to u and ur videos.❤❤
I’m sure you’re going to get your big one, it’s not easy, I’m out there everyday and have lots of zero fish days. Just wait you’re gonna get the big one. Thanks for watching
hey bro, im a new fisherman, I really started getting into more last summer. Can i fish now before fishing opener? I only do catch and release. How does it work? I know pan fish are good to fish , but what about pike? Is it within guidelines to actively target them right now generally speaking. God bless
Hey man, I hope you get into some giants this summer. The season is not open for inland water yet so you can not target pike even if you plan to do catch and release. In this video I’m fishing border waters. It is the Mississippi River in between Minnesota and Wisconsin. This allows me to fish pike year round here. If you live in the southern half of Minnesota I’d recommend coming on down to pool four and targeting some pike. If you live in the top half of Minnesota I’d give the rainy river a try that borders Canada. Shoot me a reply and I can try to give you some spots I’d recommend based on where you live. I hope you catch a pike even bigger than the one I caught today :)
I’m out on the Mississippi river where it’s legal to target pike in Minnesota. It’s a border water with Wisconsin. I would never intentionally target a species out of season let alone post a video. Last thing I want is for kids to think It’s fine to not follow fish and game laws :( thanks for the heads up though. Have a great rest of your night man!!!
If you watch just one of Nathan’s videos you would know he’s never going to break rules while fishing. I believe some TH-cam fishermen follow the rules because they have to if they want to have a camera strapped to them. Nathan follows the rules because he respects EVERYTHING about fishing, with or without a camera.
Do you think fishing regulations just do not apply to you or something pike season is closed here in Mn this means no targeting or possessing of them. The season is closed so the fish can spawn and reproduce let them be.
Do you not know regulations, coming at me and not even knowing Minnesota regulations is wild. In the first 16 seconds of the video I said I was on the Mississippi River in Minnesota…
Haha I didn’t mean it that way, 41 is a giant for sure, exspecially for the Mississippi River, I was just meaning that it looks bigger that that but it wasn’t. Just a chunky fella
Wdym why would you eat that that is almost the worst thing you could do to a fish like that I bet you are inexperienced and that’s okay and in most states that is illegal but that is not a fish you eat
You can’t target big game fish during non big game fish season unless it’s different in Minnesota in Wisconsin we can catch and release bass but can’t target pike or Muskie

The cheap Plano case is awesome, great price and keeps the baits safe, even if they are all around $20-$50 I want them protected. Thanks for watching
