Musical genius indeed and what a character! He was and is not for sale to the corporate record companies.

I heard about Boston around 1978. And instantly loved their music. Today I’ve still got several Boston songs in my guitar playlist.

I don't care if everyone likes Eddie Van Halen---Tom Scholz is MY guitar hero! I like a guitar with such memorable melodic lines that you can whistle along to their solo---and Tom absolutely delivers every time! And his tone is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

I still love Boston as my favorite group to this day. It is sad that they did not become more popular. The legal issues that Scholz had unfortunately held them back and other issues with band members. They were never the same after Third Stage when Delp left. I did see them 95, 96 and 2017. They were fantastic. I was happy to see Delp in 95,96 as he was there for some of the songs. The 2017 was still good with their new vocalist Tommy DeCarlo. I know they are older but I do hope they tour again and will be glad to see them. Scholz is a genuis though and that cannot be overlooked!

Not only Tom Scholz is an immense guitar player...he is a great bass keyboard player as well as an engineer technician that have invented one of the most iconic guitar effect ever : The Rockman!

@user-du1yk7uk9v The Rockman most certainly is NOT a guitar effect. The Rockman was/is a guitar pre-amp with some signal processing onboard that could be plugged into a traditional guitar amp, plugged into the console as a pre-amp DI or used as a headphone practice amp.

@@neechee5150 hey I have one of these in good condition, do they worth anything these days?

@@GiantRock62 Yes-if they are in good shape and all original a Rockman can bring a decent price if you wanted to sell it. You might check e-bay to get an idea where that price is, but there is still a demand.

Scholz and Boston were amazing on those first two albums. They definitely changed the sound of rock. Delp's vocals were a huge part.

I put the headphones on in dark living room and dropped the needle on the first Boston album I was taken to another dimension as a young kid...that sound still takes young people to that dimension

One of the few albums that I can listen to without skipping a song. Led Zeppelin IV is another one.

on top of all that accomplishments Tom Scholz is one of those few artists that stood firm before the bullying of a record label. he engaged in a fight for his rights with CBS records and its aggressive president Walter Yetnikoff. after he successfully put the Rockman on the market he had the money to hire a top level attorney and he won the case against CBS. CBS had to pay him ten of millions ( rumored 70 mil ! ) and Scholz gave most of this money to various charities. that's who Tom Scholz is.

Missed opportunity. Polaroid should have gone into synthesizers and music equipment.
