OVERVIEW
Hey there guitar friends!!! On this week's episode of RIFFS+TONES+GEAR we're checkin' out Gary Richrath. Gary was the lead guitarist and co-founder of REO Speedwagon. He was a no-frills Les Paul/Marshall-man but don't let that fool ya. His guitar playing was simple yet effective. Like his other contemporaries, Gary's guitar parts served the song. Cool riffs, timeless solos, and some crispy tone!
For the tracks this week I'm running my Gibson Les Paul Futura through my Fractal Audio FM3. On the FM3 I'm using the Euro/Blue patch to get that cranked Marshall sound. Thanks for hangin’ out!

Who was Gary Richrath? Probably one of the best guitarist that ever laid hands on a Les Paul!
That was good, but nowhere close to Gary's sound! I guess that's what makes a Legend though!

Great video. You did a good job of emulating his sound. Better in my view than REO currently does. It would be interesting for you to take it a level further to show how his sounds were created with the basic scales you mentioned.

Dave will never be Gary, nor should he try to. Took me some time to come to terms with that statement. He plays the parts in his own style and, while I prefer the style Gary laid down, trying to copy would only draw more criticsms. Honestly I like the guitar than I do KCs older, more nasally voice, especially on the lighter songs & power ballads.
