My heart fell to my stomach when I saw the inside of that first pod. You guys did a great job. I do not think I'll ever forget the image of the inside of the pod.
In my 3rd mo of marriage, my wife took our infant son cross xtry fr Wisconsin to Fort Whidby (north of Seattle) but while she was gone for 1 wk, I enlisted the aide of her father to retrieve a premade HO RR layout! We installed it in an extra bedroom in our 3-level condo! It worked great but when she returned, she asked why the door to that bdrm was closed? I told her it was a surprise. Haha😂😅…she was NOT happy n could NOT believe her father helped me arrange that ‘madness’! I kept it for 2 yrs but as one could imagine…the nagging was relentless! So, 15yrs later, I divorced my non-believer! Haha😂😅🎉❤
Coming along nicely, Tom from LI also I model the old ACL and was shocked recently when I saw an old ACL switcher moving freight over by Republc airport keep up the good work
love the resurrection, at least some one saved it, didn't get thrown away. i had set up once, I was able to put it in crate form, it started out as a crate. From F/A 18 flap shipping crate. love to recycle. great way to relax in-between workloads, now I have no space to rebuild everything is in totes, I don't have crate anymore. Love the work .
This should be a wake-up call for all those older modelers! That dream layout that you've been working on for 25 years ends up sold for $500(if you're lucky) and gets cut up like a pizza pie! So many train empires end up in the landfill not sold like this one! Plan accordingly, y'all!
Yup. I agree. They do it with everything. House, Car, Life savings. My elderly mother in law has no Will or Living trust and 4 adult kids. She won't get anything setup for when she kicks off and we've tried to get her to write a Will.
I'm blown away that that mess actually got put back together some how. Although I hope they never have to replace that furnace until after the next time the layout is cut up and moved or discarded.
Things have definitely changed since I was a kid in the 70s and had my HO set, none of these electronic controllers we just had a dial and that was it.. I never was much for the scenery but this layout looks fantastic and you show us how you put it back together is fantastic. That first pod when you showed us I was like OMG.. wtf... why didn't they make shelves or something to hold it all much better... I wouldn't pay the people that put it into the pod that is for sure.
That heavy gun was sold separately my Walthers. Came with the gun and the combo flat/MOW/bunk car (railcar at the rear) I've been trying to find a complete one of those for years as I had it when I was young and dumb.
Very professional job! It looks great. I had to leave a 3x8 foot n scale layout at a house I moved from 5 years ago. Small enough so I could leave it behind. I wish I had the room for H.O. Awesome job!
I had 2 N Scale 4x8 layouts and never finished them. So now I live in an apartment and use snap track. I am not confined to one configuration when I get bored and can set it up different ways. I don't worry about tear down it's not permanent
Most likely a program track . But I would like to see an abandoned industry place there now. That could tell a story if an old siding no longer connected.
Dirty trick 101 on rail cleaning. Automatic Transmission Fluid immediately dissolves the grim on rails. In 20 years of use on my rails, I've never had it damage anything. Also works extremely well for wheel cleaning. Naturally, use sparingly. The quart I bought in 2002 is still mostly full.
You are lucky, we don't have basements like many of the North American homes. Many of us Brrits have to use loft space (cold in winter and too hot in summer) or a shed in the garden. Only more wealthy people have railway rooms.
Absolutely first rate Stephan. I was very scepitcal after seeing that pod. You NE guys kill me tho. As an LI native, no one lives in Long Island. They live on Long Island, lol.
As far as the amount of work, would it have been easier to copy the layout and lay new? Maybe salvage some of the scenery and even use as much of the old track as possible? Y ou guys did a phenomenal job and this is a dream layout.
Stephan, good job! That layout was a wreck when you opened the pod! I was shocked. I have worked on layouts and I know hope much work you put in. A colossal achievement. After all that, it might have been easier to have the pods shipped to your workshop. You could have modularized it and wired it off site, then spent a few days setting up on site. But, overall good job!
I don’t think Price is the Issue The Issue is this They Do it With Pride And that is the Best Tool Ever to Have when Model Railroading or Begining one.
i would like to know as well just for a reference for what i charge for my services. I was charging $28 per hour. if i bring in help they get the same rate. im in the Chicagoland area
Some years ago I had the unfortunate job of dismantling a layout for a friend and he had a guy that was going to use it, But the guy backed out and we ended up taking it to the landfill.
@Stephan Lamb : That wiring under the table reminds me when I was a teen, with all my big switch green boxes connected to points, signals, streets and houses... No programming at all (this was before home computers arrived). I even used to run a 6V 0-4-0 on my 12V layout, and ofc it was running twice as fast as the 12V same model 0-4-0 when using the same section of track... A good way to learn basic electricity :) Rebuilding of your layout was a good time to make it modular, why didn't you (or did you) ? Are you not interested in taking part to a couple of exhibitions at least to show what can be done to save a vintage layout from dump ? Greetings from Europe and "bon courage" !
Thank you for your comments, you should’ve seen the design the former Layout builder gave us there was no way you can get access to the HVAC. Now our new plan gave access to the HVAC with enough room even if they need to remove it.
@@StephanLambAssociates that's great to hear! You guys did a great job adapting it to a more challenging space. I hope there's a Part II in the future!
One needs to plan for a move cause it could happen. My anticipated move should involve a rich young widow. I have to be prepared to move into her mansion ND that means my trains need to move.
I guess the butcher that took down the layout knew he wasn’t putting it back together or he would have done a much better job. The layout is looking good and the owner will be very happy. Not looking for an address, but what town on Long Island is it?
the guys who dismantled the railroad seemed to have had no idea what they were doing and just cut it up and threw it in. damn shame it was like this. But you took it on
My heart fell to my stomach when I saw the inside of that first pod. You guys did a great job. I do not think I'll ever forget the image of the inside of the pod.
I might have been inclined to walk away when I opened that first pod😳 You guys took on a challenge and did an amazing job!👍🇨🇦
I definitely think it was well worth it.
To be honest, once they took it out of the pod and laid it on the ground, it didn't look so bad.
@Modelrailroad Yep @ 2 mins 13secs l to woulda been gone 😳😆
HO our family R xR scale since 1953 in Japan. We are all now in USA❤ and retired. You go man!

I watched this while working on repairs to my own HO scale layout. Thanks for keeping me company.
Coming along nicely, Tom from LI also I model the old ACL and was shocked recently when I saw an old ACL switcher moving freight over by Republc airport keep up the good work
Really enjoyed watching you rebuild this layout. When is part #2 coming? Cannot wait to see finished landscapes and scenery!!
So nice it found a new home that appreciates the workmanship. Advice to live by: Do your basement/large layouts in modulars!
that first pod wouldve made me scream and send a very heart felt message to the old owner.

already did everything is modularso it can be moved easily :P
Whoever built it originally, had some excellent skills.
It looks good.

But you can't put a price on all the hours of pleasure That the original Owner got from his train. Life isn't all about money you know.
Great job. Fascinating to see what can be done! Glad I won’t be the guy that has to take out that HVAC/furnace one day when it needs replacing!😳😂
Great job on the re-construction…..thanks for sharing a great display …and of your patience and persistence! Love it!! Cheers from Australia 👍🇦🇺🦘

What a beautiful job on the refit adjustments! You did a great job with the final product.
Thanks for sharing.
Amazing job saving this nice railroad.
Man, this layout is DIRTY, l love it!
All so relaxing for me to watch all this. Very interesting. Thanks,( someone in the U.K. with 00 gauge ).
This video was awesome. Great layout and great job putting it back together.
The structures are great along the wall.
Wonderful labor of LOVE. I will follow, many family and others will enjoy your labors!😊
Interesting how you started with a disaster, and ended up with something very cool! Bravo!
…looks good! Hell of a job!
Never very good at Rubic's cube.
Great work gentlemen!!!
Eine super schöne Anlage
Danke für's zeigen

my heart sunk when you opened that pod door..Yikes!..hope not too much was damaged...Great layout design btw!
Thumbs Up and happy weekend.
That is a stunning railroad. I would love to have something like it one day.

Amazing job! Liked and subscribed. Hope future videos are in 1080 or at least 720. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
Well done lads ,great layout 👍🏻
I'd be needin more than a case of beer to put that nightmare in long island back together again...
The Way It Is Is This Pride Passion TLC And A lot Of Time Never Rush Resurection. IT IS ALIVE!!!!!!
Beautyful lay-out and music 🙂
Nice capture 👍 my thumb goes up
You shame me, and inspire me! 🚂👍
Super! Very good job! Stéph.
It's hard to tell with my old eyes, but is that a New England Central GP-38? I ran those old Geeps for years....
All I can say is WOW! Great job!
That was an incredible resurrection. Very nice work!
The shrubbery in this model is great! Really realistic.

I sure hope you never have to replace that furnace
Wow . . . Bravo Ladies & Gentlemen. Not an easy assignment. The layout looks well worth saving for sure. Great job! Cheers ~ Boomer.😁
Thanks so much for your comments. We’ll be going back in August to continue to finish the railroad. Part #2
@@StephanLambAssociates Sounds like fun!😁
Take some junk from two containers and build a masterpiece !! . ❤ Thanks all . Dave

Good jobs guys great work!
Amazing how you puzzel it together! Wow wow wow ! Greetings from germany
Wow, great job. Quite an undertaking...
Yes thanks so much for your comments. We still need to go back to finish the job.
Good gravy! I could’ve produced that mess! 😂😅🎉❤
21:19…I suspect that the “track that goes nowhere” is actually a DCC programming track.
Yes it could be a programming track, because the power supplies were under that area originally.
Most likely a program track . But I would like to see an abandoned industry place there now. That could tell a story if an old siding no longer connected.
Beautiful, I envy the space you have👌🏾

Despite its poor condition in the Pod the railroad was still a whole lot better than building it from scratch.
fyi a furnace requires 24" of clearance in front of it.

Thank you for sharing. Fantastic job.
It would be nice to have a background painted on the side walls.
Nice Job Guys.
I can’t believe the owner PAID to have it “dismantled”!
huge layout 👍
WOW!!! That's some good work. What do you guys roughly charge to do something like this??
I don’t think Price is the Issue The Issue is this They Do it With Pride And that is the Best Tool Ever to Have when Model Railroading or Begining one.

I think you only got one answer cuz the wives might be reading this
[thank, you for youre great video]👍
The company that took the train apart made your job very hard!!!!
outstanding video
What a Challenge But it is Gonna Look Good when done you have your hands Full Guys.
Hey that looks amazing!
Thanks we’re going back this summer to finish!
Fore as bad as it was it looks good.!!!!
LOL I feel sorry for the technician that has to eventually replace the furnace
A very nice video and layout. I have plans to expand my own HO scale layout, but I don't think it will be quite as big as this.
Beautiful! May need to ask you to rebuild my layout here in NJ. Just gotta get the tracks laid out.
How much you guys charge
Safety first is the key to everything, 4:04
it looks it was "prepared" to go to the landfill
Some years ago I had the unfortunate job of dismantling a layout for a friend and he had a guy that was going to use it, But the guy backed out and we ended up taking it to the landfill.
God I wish I could but a layout like that

Was this railroad originally owned by a club? I only ask because it looks very familiar like one that I seen at trainfest in Milwaukee WI.
How much does it cost to make this type of in house railroad project, any one can advise!
Did they tell the loaders the destination was the new home not the dump?? Literally thrown in there!
May I suggest: 2x3 legs add weight and stability to low side, good weight low, maby for future?
good work
I can only imagine the difficulty of replacing the HVAC unit in the future. Such an odd placement for one too.

waiting for part 2
I wonder what part of Long Island?
Unless the owner wants to be secretive.
Al i can Say it's WOW!!!
One needs to plan for a move cause it could happen. My anticipated move should involve a rich young widow. I have to be prepared to move into her mansion ND that means my trains need to move.
i know he would say be extremely careful with everything, 4:04
I would return it to the seller if they were responsible for the packing, storing (in pod) and shipping. Thats heart breaking to see.
I guess the butcher that took down the layout knew he wasn’t putting it back together or he would have done a much better job. The layout is looking good and the owner will be very happy. Not looking for an address, but what town on Long Island is it?
It’s on the hamptons side of things

What a challenge
what kind of cost is involved here . just the re assembly part? or is it hourly charge per person?
