okay so the one with Luffy's mouth I agree that's dumb but I'm going to have to side with 4kids' decisions for the other two. for the intended audiance im sure the company was aiming their dubs at (7-10 years old) Hell would not be an appropriate word culturally in the west with it's connection to darker and religous themes potentially being to controversial. the character in the last one is dark skinned with big red lips which in Japan I'm sure they think nothing of it but in western culture that could easily be mistaken for blackface and I don't think I have to point out why that would be controversial . 4kids localized anime for a western child audience and while yes some of the changes they made were dumb and unnecessary, keeping in mind their audience's age group and how new anime was to the west during the 90's and 2000's I feel people need to cut the company some slack.

To be fair, japan has an entirely different view on black stereotypes.
