Drove one of those in Germany. I was a 63B20 that got the best job in the Army. Driving the last truck in the convoy. The 5ton Wrecker. "Lurch" B15 34SIG Krabenloch 71-74 SHORT

I have an M-62 with the ENDT 673 Mack too! What an incredible coincidence since they are rare as rare gets! Awesome truck, both that one and mine..,

From 1961-1984 when I retired. I operated all the 5 ton wreckers in the inventory at that time : M 62, M 543, M 543A1, M 543 A2, M 816. To include the 5 ton aircraft handling wreckers, not forgetting the two and a half ton wreckers ( two models) and I never ran into an M 62A1. Could have been prototype models. Besides been infantry prior: I was a 63B, 63C, 63F Instructor qualified. Great piece of equipment, with a properly trained after school operator!

@@fernandorondon4004 The M39 5 Ton Trucks that were A1's are not prototypes, they are just not easy to come by since the later M39's as A2's had Multi-Fuels in them for a very stupid reason. That Engine belongs in the Deuce no matter what. After they stopped using them with R602 Continental Gas Jobs, they had EDNT-673 Mack Engines.
Both my 1953 M52A1 and 1959 M54A1 have the 673 Mack,if you ever came across one with a Mack Engine,it was built by Mack.My M62A0 was Gasoline and so was my M51A0.Then I had two other M54A2's that were Multi-Fuel with a LDS-465-1A.

@@fernandorondon4004 Can you explain what that boom could do on the truck in this video? Could it swing 90 degrees in any direction? tHanks. Have a great weekend.

Wish you brought that M813 to my house! That's a nice wrecker, sounds very good!

Mack engines are the way to go in these trucks. The R602 gasser and multi-fuels suck in power compared to the 673 that the A1 had.

Yep. That ENDT-673 had quite a bit of grunt. Gave the 250 Cummins a run for its money, both in the performance and sound departments. Macks have a sound all their own, turbo or non-turbo, but you gotta love the sound of a high-compression, all-motor 855 cube Cummins.

@@yaboileeroy3038 The NHC-250 in the later five ton trucks had some torque,it would keep up with the Mack Thermodyne. The EDNT-673 was only 210 HP/685 TQ and the NHC-250 was 250 HP/745 TQ.The 14.0L's in the M812A1-M820A1 and M923-M943/M923A1-M945A1 however were all naturally aspirated.Another 14.0L/855 being the NTC-400 had 400 HP/1,200 TQ at that, which is what the M915-M920/M915A1-M920A1 all had.

The Army ordered these trucks with 3 powerplant options, the 6602 gas engine, the LDS muiltifuel (by far the most common out of the 3) and the Mack engine. My buddy that owned the truck made it his mission to collect a Mack powered version of almost each type- dump, cargo, wrecker.
