Congratulations. It's so unusual to see the 79 Series with that style of factory tub. 'Coz in Australia, the one officially offered by Toyota is a locally built aluminium tub with drop sides which can be removed (same as the rear) to turn it into a flat tray. This style is preferred by farmers and mining companies here. Besides, outside the farming and mining community, most people who buys the 79 Series don't even opt for a tub, buying them instead w/o one and immediately fitting a canopy setup.
No not aware but i don't believe bearings are .ment to carry loads that way .We have just finished designing and manufacturing a new traler axle. With hydraulic disc brake. When we moved the brake disk from the inside of the hub to the outside we moved the position of the hub to keep it centered on the bearings..
Hi Adrian, your comments on the LC brakes , suspension that needs upgrading is true but not unique to the Land Cruisers only. In preparing any vehicle for overlanding, the weight to Centre of Vehicle or weight to height changes dramatically with all the extras and add ons. Irrespective of the brand you support, you will require on all vehicles for the add on weight some form of upgrade to at least the suspension. The aerodynamics will cause drastic vehicle behavior changes on the road if you fit anything above the roofline to your destination and if you travel at 120km/h , if under hard braking from that speed the body roll or displacing of weight from the braking at 60/40 ratio can cause big issues. Remember no vehicle gets built in the factory to fit the application of every single end user hence it needs upgrades and changes from people specializing in certain areas of upgrades and for specific needs . I have done quite a few trips in Land Cruisers and Hilux bakkies in Mozambique and Namibia, Botswana and never had to upgrade the brakes as I absolutely keep to a safe speed even more so when towing my boat or caravan. But in saying that I have upgraded all vehicles suspensions and changed over to extended braided brake hoses. Thank you for the details on the upgrade of the LC79 posted thus far. The brake booster makes total sense and definitely to be considered.
Absolute Schalk! I have upgraded my brakes and suspension on the Hilux too; it’s necessary on any vehicle that gets taken out of factory spec in my opinion 👌🏻
What an awesome vehicle. Great setup. Would love to see a price list of the work being done. Most of these builds never show the price last time I saw a prices list was AS White when he did the 105. Thanks
I have the Jmax brake booster on my Troopy. It’s not quite what I expected as it feels a bit spongey, whereas I was expecting something a bit more responsive, but it makes a big difference.
I know a lot of people get that with the brake booster; but I think it’s due to not getting installation 100% there is a lot of measuring and checking to get right so the pedal feel is right 👌🏻
A few years ago I've thought read somewhere that the 70 Series Land Cruiser wasn't offered with the V8 diesel in Sth Africa - only the 6 cylinder. Or was that only with the Troopy (78 Series Troop Carrier)?
To answer a question not covered replace the rear drums with disc brakes since it is illegal to use spacers in australia as a whole you will need to correct wheel travel off road as the 70's different axle width Lower lief packs mean lesser weight over all terrian tamer know's this you need gvm upgrade not down grade your weight capacity your winch has a max capacity of 5.44 ton if going for a 6 ton pay load the winch rating will have to be double that so something to consider 12-15 ton load rating
Can you give us an indication of the retail pricing of each of the mods please. I am trying to do incremental changes so that would be super helpful. Thanks
Best thing to do is contact say Terrain Tamer and ask for a quote, because we have an international audience and each region has different pricing, so it’s best to contact your local branch and inquire there 👌🏻 you can use this video as a reference and they’ll give you the pricing of all the products 👍🏻
You need a 17” rim; you can always contact Powerbrake with your choice of rim and they can let you know if it would fit or not (they have most rims on their database)
@@RoamOverlanding OK that will work just be careful by moving the wheel you are no longer carrying the load on the wheel bearing where it. Needs to be .Especially as you intended to load the vehicle. What about an of set rims for rear and Carry a spacer for spair tyres
Are you aware if anyone has assessed the change in forces acting on the wheel bearings and stub axles and axle casing etc by adding spacers and thereby shifting the load further away from the bearings and bringing an element of leverage into play? (I'm making some assumptions here without adequate understanding of the subject.). Obviously practical experience with vehicles having this modification is of value here.
Taking ownership of my new mahindra karoo dusk 4x4 , I need to add on alot of mods for overlanding , traveling from south africa to Botswana 🇧🇼 and then to Namibia 🇳🇦 , will your partners in 4x4 field help me with quotes 😀
What are you doing to fix the front steering issue on the double cab when it’s loaded? Even with the suspension upgrades it still has a light feeling on the front and is fidgety and you have to drive it like a lorry
Lovely upgrades but the question is how does one derive any financial return on all the parts that are coming off a brand new vehicle? Enthusiasts would also appreciate a running account of how financially punitive the individual components are?
I don’t think you really can… Roelf had friends who could use some of the parts. He is chuffed with the end result. The pricing you can get from any of the suppliers.
Warranty’s on cruisers are pretty bad anyways; but essentially the warranty of stuff like suspension is taken over by terrain tamer; if Toyota want to say you broke the engine because of the suspension then they’re crazy 😂 everyone changes their suspension on a Toyota 😋
Why pay over a million Rand for a vehicle to rebuild most of it. Rather buy one for R200k and rebuild from there. This will never cost even close to R1 million. Then, why buy a Land Cruiser to start with if it needs so much modification.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea; but the vehicle we have built is an absolutely beauty. These cruisers are true Kalahari Ferrari’s. Why buy a Ferrari when you can buy a golf gti? It’s about the passion, and the feeling. Somethings just don’t make sense, and that’s also okay.
All the best 4x4 products come from Australia. Those guys know their shit.

Very nice....looking forward to more vids on Andy's build
Definitely going to be the hottest 79 around! Can’t wait for the next ep
You guys rock! Love from PNG! keep it coming!!
This is going to be an epic build
Love Terrain Tamer Products
How I love this channel
Wow really rally gr8 episode of modification... ur fan from pakistan.. 🙌
patiently waiting for episode 2 and more Isuzu content 💪🏾
Yeah, what happened to the Isuzu?
Game changer build coming up..
Always great content
Absolute beast of a vehicle. Love the 79 series, but it's a shame they cost so much.

just wow😍
Lekker…19:01… who supplied the leaf spring high clearance plates? Thanks
That’s available from Onca 👌🏻very nice kit that, protects the nuts on the ubolts too
Awesome!.....great build....love to see more about builds
drum brakes….good ole toyota. that being said that LC looks hot!

Such a sick build!
Supporting here.. I do some. Videos like this.. And I relate..
Number one should have been the rear axle upgrade for those heavy loads your carrying..
Congratulations, Are you going to upgrade tire and wheel size if so what size are going with ?
Yes I think it went to 295/75/17
A few years ago I've thought read somewhere that the 70 Series Land Cruiser wasn't offered with the V8 diesel in Sth Africa - only the 6 cylinder. Or was that only with the Troopy (78 Series Troop Carrier)?
Yup our troopy only comes in the 4.2D donkey motor
Very cool. I'll definitely be following this build. Would be great if you could let us know the costs as well 👍
Very expensive 😂😂 hahah!! Maybe I’ll get Roelf to say at the end what his vehicle is insured for 🤓
@@RoamOverlanding 😂 yeah, I don't doubt that. Also noticed Roelf's steering wheel has buttons on it. Was that from Toyota or an upgrade?
@@MovingPicturesAfrica an upgrade 👌🏻 we will cover the interior upgrades in a separate video 👍🏻
@@RoamOverlanding excellent. I have a 76 so I'm interested in what I might one day do when I have the cash 🙂.
To answer a question not covered

What do you guys do with the double cab portion of your bakkies
Pull out the seats, and put in a BushTech rear seat delete, you can put a fridge or whatever you want back there
Awesome Build, what headlights did he put in?
Land Cruiser heaven does a rebuild of the standard headlights using a Stedi light replacement 👌🏻
Bro what will be your solution for the rear axel track correction?
Spacers from Onca is what most people do
Can you give us an indication of the retail pricing of each of the mods please. I am trying to do incremental changes so that would be super helpful. Thanks

What rim size and make did you install, with offset to accommodate the powerbrakes?
You need a 17” rim; you can always contact Powerbrake with your choice of rim and they can let you know if it would fit or not (they have most rims on their database)
Hi Adrian, such a beautiful build also what happened to the Isuzu build?
The Isuzu is still happening; just had some set backs. Hoping to reveal it all soon 👌🏻
What about axle track correction
I was just about to ask this, too
Here we just do a 50mm spacer. A company called Onca do them out of high quality aluminium billet.

are you're guy's going to change the 2nd and 5th gear modification, is this modification really worth the cost
Yup we have; will have a video about all the performance mods!
Is Roelf Cruiser the 70th anniversary edition?
Nope Just the normal one
Nice one 🤙

Of course; pop BushTech Canopies a mail for help with a Canopy
How do you retrofit those headlights on?
Land Cruiser heaven do it as a custom mod.
How is the isuzu
We are almost ready to share more about the Isuzu
@@RoamOverlanding it's been long... 😭
What tire brand and size are those?
Maxxis Razr AT 295/70/17 or something like that
Hi is ur Hilux an auto or manual ? Thanks
What are you doing to fix the front steering issue on the double cab when it’s loaded? Even with the suspension upgrades it still has a light feeling on the front and is fidgety and you have to drive it like a lorry
The ONLY wat to fix that is to not buy a double cab 79 series.🤣
Any tourers dream, but good luck with that fuel bill. I suppose if you can kit it out like you did you can afford the fuel.
Surprisingly the consumption is not far behind a fully kitted Hilux....
My Hilux like Adrian’s I can’t seem to get better than 10km/1L.
I wish… mine is at like 11.5-14L/100km depending on the terrain/wind/average speed

Not yet, it’s abit pricey!
how much
steering wheel upgrade ?
Yup; will cover it in an interior video 👍🏻

Its called Afrikaans
you lost me when you said the shocks were unique... But thanks for the content anyway. cheers from oz
Hahah just with regards to the options we have in our market
No dmax news
still not unfortunately.. been fixing some issues
why do I never see these landcruisers on the road in real life or even on used car advertisment sites
You live under a rock
I actually laughed out loud! 😂
Cause they are on an overlanding trip😉😉
Thinking that a lot of these upgrades are sponsored. No way one can afford it to buy a vehicle new & then do all the upgrades out of your own pocket.
The only product that was sponsored was the Rear Antiroll Bar 👍🏻
