@@gookieboo have had the car for a few months now around 6000km driven and all I’ve done is an oil change maintenance wise. The selling point for me was the fact it was one owner so i’m second, all of the work done to the car was done at bmw dealership, he fixed all issues with the turbos and the deal breaker for me was that he replaced the injectors with index 11s. Would never buy an n54 or n55 without having the injectors already fixed as that’s an $8k-$10k job. Also the manual in the 335is differs from a normal 335i as it has a different clutch and a much tighter, short throw shifting. Plus I prefer to drive manual so the dct wasn’t what I wanted. Only paid a few thousand more than a normal 335i with all of its maintenance, full body kit unique to the is, louder and better sounding exhaust so no use in buying a catback(saves $$), the extra cooling and oil cooler keeps engine temps low even with driving it hard for extended period of time, unique to the is M suspension etc. There’s lots of things that are much better than a 335i, not just the DCT. Plus my spec is 1 of 139 produced because most 335is models were the DCT convertible, so in the future the manuals will be the desired ones as there’s very little produced in contrast to dct. Plus manuals are becoming more and more rare in all cars, most car people I know prefer a manual transmission don’t care if it’s “slower” than a DCT shifting your own gears is the enjoyment and the DCT in the 335is models and e9x m3 do not shift as quick as a normal DCT I wasn’t blown away by how quick and sharp the shifts and downshifts were compared to other DCTs

Handles surprisingly well, has nice numbers when stock and the overboost function is extremely helpful when having to zip around some car(s) and when you launch the car, interior is very clean and luxurious plus the sound system is great. I could go on forever as I’ve totally fallen in love with the car and can’t wait til i’m done with this semester and have the time to start building the car. I have intake, downpipes, front lip, rear spoiler, mhd and a resonator delete needing to be installed. definitely recommend the car but personally I was only willing to buy any n54/n55 that had the injectors replaced already as that’s a very costly job
EXACTLY!!! I've owned a 2009 e93 335i for years now. The ONLY thing that's EVER made me yearn for the 335is is that DCT. I got the wheels long ago and my car was optioned with the sports suspension, sport seats, comfort access....everything but the navigation (prefer the single hump), and I've added M3 control arms. I've been running the Xhp transmission tune for years and it makes things MUCH better...but that DCT though.... As far as color combos go....I'm not sure what the actual options were for the 335is...but I don't think there's a better color then the space gray on the 335's...add the red guts and you're committing felony murder!!!
exactly, the IS is not a collectable for the manual at all. In fact I'm willing to bet a manual IS is worth less than the DCT. A regular n54 in manual is the better choice. Currently the 335is is worth almost as much as an M3. In 2023 I looked up on KBB a same year, same mileage (70,000), same spec, color. Yes I did all this comparison 2013 m3 Manual: $27.8k 2013 m3 DCT: $28.9k 2013 335is DCT: $22.7k 2013 335is Manual: $19.2k 2010 335i Manual (n54): $11.7k It's pretty clear the most valuable is the M3 obviously, but for the n54 manual the IS is not the best option. Instead find a 2010 with good options and mod/kit it out, you will be under the cost of buying a manual 335is from the get go.

I paid $19.5k for a 2011 335is manual with index 11 injectors one owner and all work done at bmw dealership. where with the 335i they’re mostly owned by high schoolers now and are super beat up but still selling for $15k+. I may have gotten lucky with the find but there certainly wasn’t a nearly $10k difference in price as you’re assuming. Also, in the future as this car gets older and there are fewer still around the manuals will be the valuable and desirable ones to collect as the production numbers of the manual are substantially lower than the DCT.

As a former owner of a Black Sapphire/Saddle Brown DCT, it was an absolute head turner. Even the Indy Shop Owner I took it to for service loved it, given that it was much RARER than an M3.
I have a 335is also. They are great cars for the value. It also has an additional radiator for cooling and a larger fan for the radiator. The coupes have a fog light delete while the verts dont and still have fog lights. The wheels funny enough were offered in 18in and 19in. It came with a particularly paint matched diffuser and the mirror caps were all painted in shadow line black. During launch control u will get for 7 seconds 370 ft of torque which is cool
I Have the IS 2011 black sapphire cream interior with the DCT. Went single turbo when the twins went out and a custom tune. Incredible vehicle, I'll keep it as long as possible
Nice also have 11 335is Lemans Blue/*cream interior (had cause I put in black M4 seats and black M3 rear seats) with a DCT. Went bottom mount 6466 single turbo with port injection on full e85. Almost sold it to get into a Supra, but the DCT kept me from selling it and will keep it as long as possible as well.
Don't forget the 370lb ft tq overboost that you'd get for 7 seconds. Paired with launch control, it was like a rocket. I owned an '11 Space Grey on black. Loved it. Sold it last year to buy a M340xi for my growing family. The girl who bought it, did a lot of work but a deer totalled it unfortunately. Definitely a lot fewer 335is' out there.
I ordered a 2013 335is brand new and it’s the only car I regret selling. I cross shopped it with the E92 M3, but the 335is was simply more fun. The torque and exhaust note was intoxicating. I’m a little bummed to see so many of these pretty trashed now, they’ve gotten to the price point where you’re seeing tons of eBay mods and clean cars are hard to find.
I drove my friend stock 09’ . I felt at home having E36 M mostly. Still I’d think the M3 would be better stock for stock but the 335 due to power upgrade. You run a 6466 on E85 at 30psi and no supercharger M3 is touching you.
the M3 of the time was a problematic V8 that had just come out. The 335is had the N54 engine to handle the extra boost, not the N55 which was in all the other 3's. The N54 has a stronger more forged bottom end and rotating gear in the engine. It also came with the twin clutch tranny only the M3 had otherwise. The only thing missing is an lsd, the electronic system just doesn't cut it. $3,500 USD installed I think. The new M3's are now this engine optimized with forged pistons and methanol. The 335is is the german version of a V8. Its hard to keep it from spinning up on the street and the dct is brilliant. This, is the car to have.
Crazy my friend got a is with the black exterior and red guts, insane. You dot. See them often, but as a dct. Anyway, yes it came with those sick wheels as well and that e92 silhouette is timeless.. I love it..

This is not correct. The 335is uses twin turbos, not a single turbo. It is the N54 motor and a quick google search would have answered this before you commented
What you meant to say was the 335is is what the e92 M3 *should have been* BMW should have bumped that N54 to 450ish or so. That would have been a sweet M3. I guess we got the 1M tho 🤷♂️

Transmission matters “most people” will tell you if you drive an automatic - grab the 335is bc you get the dual clutch transmission (which is better then the standard automatic in a regular e92 335)
Bought one new shipped from Germany in 2013 lemans blue. Now she has 80k miles on it in 2023 now the problems are occurring lol never buying a bmw again
I would like to own a 335 but just from watching youtube videos, you have to address a few issues. Crank hub, rod bearings, and carbon buildup. Not to mention the water pump is a PITA job and you have to plan on buying new turbos. These engines are very expensive and not rebuildable. I think you would be better off with a JZ engine that can potentially last a lifetime.
Not rebuildable? who told you that? and the N54 has a ton of after market support all the known issues have a solution. N54 rarely suffers from crank hub or rod bearings, thats the M cars. Carbon buildup is normal on all Direct Injection engines its not exclusive to the N54. Going port injection keeps the carbon away. And yes turbos wear out lol what makes you think they last forever? My stock twins went over 80k FBO tuned miles being pushed at 21-23psi before they developed the infamous rattle and I decided to go single turbo. Pushing more power from the 2JZ is going to cost more compared to the N54 just to be more "reliable" rather get a B58.
as with most modern engines, they don't have cylinder liners that are machinable. The only option is sleeving the engine which cost a lot of money and puts you at mercy of the machine shop. The block will also lose it's strenght integrity.@@james10165 N54, N55, and the B58 are awesome engine but can't compare to a JZ. Not to mention, Dart should be coming out with thier 2jz reproduction block that will be much stronger. I don't fault you for sticking the N54 as you already have one, but when it comes to dumping money into it, 2jz is a better option because the engine will most likely last as long as you need it to.
