Everyone, did you do your waterchange? Don’t be afraid to get your hands wet! Also, today is an amazing day. I finally saw Hot dog my loach after like months without seeing him. Hurray.
Also, I have learned that if you set up a fish tank. And put some rotting plants in there, and over feed it. You have break outs like that. Another way is to get some plants from a super shady pet store and then boom. You got all sorts of things swimming around in there.

Mystery yawning "fish" is an amphibian--a Three-toed Amphiuma (_Amphiuma tridactylum_). Rarely seen (but not rare) from the southeastern US. They are occasionally found on land and can bite pretty hard!

scuds are amphipods, not copepods, very different niche. That copepod bloom is almost certainly a result of a big diatom bloom, which is a kind of algae that builds a shell out of silicates. Basically, glass coated unicellular algae. Often shows up as a brown speckled layer on your glass and hardscape. Copepods are pretty much the only thing that can eat them, and their niche has let them reach every body of water on earth. If they managed to produce that much WHILE being consumed by a betta, then it must have been one hell of a bloom.

    • @jazzkatt1919

Concrete block aquarium stands are great (if your floor can handle the extra weight).
Many years ago, I had one.
    Form and function 👌
Once I set it up, I clad it with stained plywood and trim using hot glue 😅 it work fantastic and looked sharp enough. I moved the tank about three months later for a relocation. Easy to take apart, and I just glued it back together👍 it lived there for a little over three years.

    • @jakewhitehead7414
      @jakewhitehead7414 ปีที่แล้ว

@StarEmpress30 I'm actually familiar with the video 👍 but if I were to tell you how it looked 🤔 I'd have to say that it mimicked the look of SerpaDesign (just a with a Grey stain) All the structure was in the blocks and boards. I then glued a prefabricated skin to the blocks. Now, I have much nicer custom furniture for my aquariums and terrariums(steel). The new pieces are a lot lighter but much stronger than my old setup that sat on a concrete slab at ground level (120 gallons)
The same tank is on the second floor of a wood frame house. I easily saved 400 lbs.
But thanks for the suggestion, would recommend to anyone who reads our comments 😎👌

They're probably scared of the white sand. From what I've read white substrate reflects light and makes them feel more exposed, and causes them to turn pale to try and blend in, while dark substrate (and a dark environment like a blackwater setup or a tank with floating plants) makes them feel more secure and also helps their colors to stand out a lot more
Plus having white sand is like having a white car or shirt: as pretty as it looks, it's gonna be a pain to keep it looking that pristine as any little speck of dirt sticks like a sore thumb XD
Very nice scape on the brackish!
And nah brackish isn't too difficult, the environments fluctuate constantly (unlike the ocean which is as stable as it comes) so you don't have to worry about getting the wrong amount of salt or anything :P
*Finding* brackish fish on the other hand... Not a lot of variety to choose from and not readily available, with the exception of mollies
Nice ten gallon but I'd prefer seeing black neons in a bigger tank
Beautiful 8 gallon 👏I think a bunch of cherry shrimp foraging around would look quite lovely in it
That long tank is just *mindblowing*...

I had a 10 gallon with a dwarf gourami in it that someone gave to me before they moved to another state. It must have been old because it only lived for about 6 months, he was a big boy. Anyway after he died I left the tank fishless for 2 months. The tank has snails and I sprinkled some algae pellets in once a week to keep it cycled. Did water changes as usual. One day was doing a WC and saw copepods EVERYWHERE. That’s how you do it. Take your fish out for two months and give the tank food, but not a lot of food. Also my outlet of my filter is blocked by some filter floss for less flow for the female betta I was buying to breed. I think the low flow really helps the copepod pop explode.

They come in many different patterns but google also shows alot of wrong pictures or Mastacembelus circumcinctus which is a way smaller species. The Python spiny eel grows very large similar to the fire spiny eel which as the name suggests has an awesome red marking to it and becomes a giant waterpet noodle.. saddly most overfeed them cause they are EXPERTS at begging for food. Easy way to get an explosion of micro prey is to use fine floating food for things like fry in a low flow tank - it sometimes never sinks and gets caught on any structures or floating plants.
I ended up with a tank i had to break down because I had a huge explosion of scuds in a 10gal and nothing in there wa big enough to eat them, as it just had chili rasboras and shrimp.

To answer the QOTW: a few years ago I went on a trip to Chile and Bolivia and saw alpacas… and baby alpacas. I tell you there is no derpier creature on this planet. Firstly, their fur is like a teddy bear. The babies do that giraffe thing where they forget how legs work, but they also do the puppy zoomies thing. So we would see groups of young alpacas chase each other around and then BIFF it! Also, their necks are very flexible. The first time we saw one we tried to slowly walk closer, and then this mfer, who was facing the other way eating grass, swung it’s head around to stare at us without moving it’s body an inch. We all choked on our laughter. So ya, baby alpacas are the cutest little idiots ever.

They look like a cute little grain of steamed rice, often in a much uglier lump of animal poo. Maybe it's just that they look better by comparison to what they live in. Or maybe it's because it looks nowhere as horrific as the creature it will become. All I can say is that even though it might look cute, definitely don't give in to the urge to reach down and tickle it (goochi goochi goo!).

Newer to the fish world, but am educating myself as much as possible. Currently just have one quite young female betta in a 5 gallon, but I've been looking for a tank mate possibilities. I was trying to find some info and one that really has sparked my interest is the Kuhli Loach. In one of your videos I saw just one, and I keep seeing you have to have multiples of them. What do you recommend? I don't want to make a bad decision since so much is so back and forth on info. I've read I could have 2 in a 5 gal but others saying you need a much larger tank so I really don't know what to do.

kuhlis are amazing!! i have 10 in a 40g breeder :) i would be cautious putting them in with a betta, even a female one as they can still be aggressive and territorial. when stocking its best to add the most aggressive fish last. as for your tank size i don't actually recommend getting kuhli's as they need at least a 10 gallon long tank to really thrive. although they aren't schooling fish they are very social and enjoy company! if you put 2 in your tank you would hardly ever see them as they feel safer in larger groups of 6 or more. some tank mates i would suggest for your betta in a 5 gallon are some blue mystery snails or some red cherry shrimp. mystery snails are good as they don't breed asexually and lay their eggs above the waterline so the population is easy to control :) hope this helps!

@@Sapphirejade0255 Thank you it really does. This female betta is really young and is extremely calm and chill as well. I know they still can get aggressive. I thought about putting cherry shrimp in there definitely, though I'm not a huge fan of the snails (it would have to be a really unique looking snail but even then idk). Would there be any other options you'd recommend? I'm also extremely limited in what I can even get my hands on as there aren't a lot of good fish places around here anymore and I know nothing about the online sellers to know who to buy from and who not to. I'm also trying to look up more and better info on getting the plants in the aquarium to grow and thrive better. Just sad I can't do Kuhli Loaches they are so adorable!

@@Lynn-qt9tv there's lots of different beautiful colourful shrimp around depending on what country you're in! Unfortunately I'm from New Zealand and customs don't allow aquarists to keep any type of shrimp. It's illegal to import them 😭. Snails would probably be your best bet as shrimp can be quite sensitive to water quality. I have a gorgeous little blue mystery snail in my tank. His name is spool (my partner named him haha) my Betta interacts with him but doesn't attack or try to nip his antenna at all! As for other options of what to keep it's a bit difficult because lots of fish require 10 gallons or more whereas with Bettas it's often the smaller the tank the better (not always though, but most of the time they're happier in smaller tanks especially if they've lived in one for a long time) since your Betta is young you might have a chance at being able to put her with another group of fish if you're careful and plan it out correctly. Although it might not work for you, the best thing I can think of doing (also what I ended up doing lol) is getting a new 10g tank and setting it up, cycle it, add some fish that can you can potentially pair with a Betta (neon/ember tetras or guppies are a good go-to) leave it for a bit, and then add the Betta. It worked really well for me but sometimes it can go haywire. Keep the 5g as a spare just in case it does and then you can move the Betta back. I have female guppies in the tank with my Betta but there are also MANY hiding places. Water spangle for the top section, decor and plants for the mid, and leaves/rocks for the bottom. Hiding spots are really key for keeping other fish with Bettas. Just make sure they don't get bored as they are prone to acting depressed if they do

Just cleaned my 9 gallon tank today & found 1 pond snail in the tank & another on the wall when the stand is 4" away & nothing else is touching the stand... 🤔
I also plucked 2 centipedes out. My nerite snail was sleeping on the job while the pond snail was going to town...

Need a trigger warning for mentioning Malaysian trumpet snails. I set up a 10-gallon tank for work. Some wood, some stone, some plants, nutrient black substrate and a few fish (betta and 3 corys). One day I see a cone shaped shell and think "wow, that's novel that a shell got in with the substrate. It looks pretty." A few weeks later that shell is on top of the wood and I'm concerned. Another week goes by and it is all Malaysian trumpet snails. No matter how many I culled, I couldn't stop the population explosion. I left that tank there when I left the job. I haven't had a fish tank since.

What is the cutest baby animal?
    A:
A baby seal, they are curious, playful, clumsy, they make the silliest noises, and when they are content, they sit in banana pose.
