so true my friend. i submitted that tank with the permission of the owner. The tank was a mess when i got to it and already heavily overstocked including all the tangs. Together the owner and I worked out a better maintenance plan and feeding schedule, refugium, wavemaker, and a few other changes that really helped turn the water chemistry around. It made the fish all so much less stressed and allowed corals to thrive. but the poor tangs are definitely not an apropriate stocking choice for the auarium size. The hippo tang especially really needs much more space. But the owner is very attached to the fish and is determined to keep them. I will admit i am shocked at how little stress the fish in this tank exibit but definitely this heavy stocking with the large fish is not good to emulate.
Correct me if I'm wrong as I just picked up a 40 gallon last night for my first reef tank, but one of the bigger channels I've been watching said on one of their videos that people will grow out yellow tangs in smaller tanks and use them as a utilitarian fish for algae control, and trade them out for smaller ones as they outgrow the tank. Can't say the same for Dory, as they've all been saying stay away from them unless you have a really big tank, and fish that are a little tougher because Dory is actually one of the bigger jerks in the saltwater world.
@@_Clayton.Bigsby_ you're not wrong, and you totally can do that, but moving fish from tank to tank can also be stressful experiences, so if you want a utilitarian fish like a tang that you don't have to get rid of, you could get an algae eating blenny
QOTW! Fun fact about me: I am told that the first word I learned to read was "Zoo" from the road signs on our way to frequently visit the Minnesota Zoo. And now I'm zookeeper!
Aquatic Sealife is my local fish store. I have been shopping there since I got into the hobby. The new owners have been working hard to get the business going again in a new location. I am so sorry to see the tank failure. It's also crazy that I learned about the incident from FTR. I met the current business owner who shared his story with me. He said that he wanted to buy a large fish tank and ended up buying the whole business from the previous owners.
I found a tape worm crawling out of my substrate after setting up a new dirted tank. I plucked it out with tweezers and luckily it seems to have been the only one. Everything used was store bought. I can only assume the sand or soil can have dormant eggs.
That's seriously gross! But yes, the eggs are pooped out by wildlife coming to drink from a stream or pond so if you did full nature dirted from a local water source you prob got some critter poop too.😉✌️
It especially sucks because owning a fish store is not like a normal business. The profit margins can be very tight, it's a ton of work and upkeep, and the property insurance for a place holding thousands of gallons of water is going to be ridiculously expensive. It's a business that people go into for the passion, so for that owner I'm sure it was emotionally devastating to walk in the next morning and see that :/
The scariest thing I've ever seen in my tank was my adult turtle pooping out a very long tapeworm. I don't have the funds to take him to an exotic vet and talked to my local fish and reptile store. Apparently turtles can be treated with the same type of dewormer as dogs but in a smaller dose. The reptile lady also said turtles live in the wild with all kinds of parasites and it's been months with no further developments. Always wash your plants before adding them to your tank! Learned that the hard way.
Everything Jumps. My Kholi Loach launched himself out of the tank through the feeding hold, thought he was a pile of poop on the ground. Found him probably minutes before he dried out, survived a 4 foot drop and being out of the water till he was sticky instead of wet. Still alive a year later.

"Could you not have showcased your container in anything other than a tictac container?" Brilliant. Gosh they even *show* you that's too ridiculously small for a goldfish Oh geez, read about that tank in the comment and it is *definitely* too small for tangs. They need at least a 6 ft tank You can tell the blue tang is too big, the little sailfin tang is gonna be getting huge, and even the yellow tang needs a minimum of a 4ft tank with bigger being better There's also a few damselfish in there and these guys get pretty aggressive, especially as they get older, pretty sure that striped damsel is one of the most aggressive... Panda garra on the leaf is so cute tho

I remember trying to breed platies and swordtails. All my swordtails disappeared in the afternoon. The tank was in my room. The swordtails jumped out in the back of the tank wen I was at school. Only some of the platies followed after
QOTW: Everything in my life is ghosts. I've always liked ghosts, a lot of my friends even call me Ghosty as a nickname. Where it gets weird is the number of things that should be unrelated that end up being actually ghost adjacent in the long run. My favorite animal? Ring-tailed lemur. The latin root of the word lemur means "ghost". Didn't know that til I was an adult, I've loved the little guys since I was like six years old. Several of my favorite flowers have ended up having ghost legends associated with them in their native ranges. Even my beautiful trans spouse is not immune. We just found out this week that the name they chose as their new middle name is also associated with ghosts/spirits. (Also yes, I do keep ghost shrimp why do you ask?)
The other day at work I looked at the fish tanks while stuck in register and saw a little blood parrot cichlid that was all white swimming around in one of the tanks. Little dude was really cute and it almost made me want to get him. I had to stop myself because I don’t have a tank big enough for him, nor do I have the space for what I would consider the bare minimum for a parrot cichlid (55 gallons minimum for a smaller one before tank upgrades). A girl can dream though lol Qotw: I was born with a rare genetic disease (luckily not bad enough to cause anything too detrimental) that causes my eyes to have harmless brown flecks of colour in them called lisch nodules.
I was trying to net a minnow from my tank about a month ago and homie jumped out and onto my counter, then when I tried to pick him up he flopped onto the floor...I did not feel like the best fish keeper that day, even though that tank has a lid and it was only off to get him out
Qotw. I don't go outdoors on new years eve anymore bc for *many* years the times I did, I had to dodge cars. Too many close calls, and some were just ridiculous! Even inside isn't always safe. Couple times I had cars narrowly avoid making my sitting room a drive in. 2023 ended safely. I stayed in cars stayed out.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳🥳🥳 Also question for anyone kind enough to give advice 🥹 I recently set up my first fish tank which is 10 gallons. I have 4-5 amano shrimp and 2 otocynclets. The shrimp and otos are thriving but i have 2 snails 🐌 that died when they ate, what i believe to be poop and waste at the bottom of the fish tank 😔 both snails were always fine on the walls of the tanks and surface but when they start eating the waste on the bottom they die and I don’t know how to prevent this 😞 if anyone could shed some light as to what I could do differently I would really appreciate it 😔
Happy new year 🎉 I am so sad rn I came back the 31 of December from vacation and my oranda goldfish was missing out of its tank all the fish was there and we realised it was a cat climbing threw the window .
Fun fact: Surprised my Dutch teacher by getting good grades at my VWO(Dutch A-levels) finals (making a comprehensive article excerpt and an essay) while all year my grades sucked because she didn't understand how I think and I didn't understand what she expected from me. But hey, that's often the life of neurodivergents. Besides, Dutch literature sucks because they still don't take fantasy and scifi seriously as legit genres! Btw, usually nearly every A-level candidate lands a failing grade on the comprehensive article excerpt but they usually compensate that with other grades.
QOTW: My fact is I'm missing one of my front top teeth, but you can't tell at first glance! I knocked the baby tooth loose on a table when I was very little and when I finally lost it, the adult tooth just never grew in. I don't have any gaps or anything, so it worked out! Also, the saltwater tank was gorgeous, but definitely too small for the Hippo and Sailfin Tang (i thought I saw it?). There were a lot of fish in it for a reef tank. The corals were stunning though! I wish the owner luck with the bubble tip anemones because the display tank at the store I work at is being taken over by them 😅 (but I love it and they're so fun to feed when our clarkii clown decides she doesn't need to attack me when i put my hand in the tank.)
Lol not Chris thinking "explosion-proof" meant it was promising to protect against grenades and not just stating they're elminating the possiblity of the tank exploding (usually the result of weak silicone seams, weak glass, uneven surfaces etc)
My mom once put a betta in a vase when I was younger, even I thought it looked wrong, but that thing lived for 1 year. It never ate fish food, it just ate plants. When I turned 12 and got a 9 gallon for my betta, it only lived 10 months. Just..WHY????? I had a filter, I always changed the water, I regularly tested the water. Does it make sense that my fish freaking DROPPED DEAD?
We had a betta live a few years in vases (surviving multiple breaks due to cats who liked to drink his water). Tho we did feed him and regularly changed his water (I was a kid and my mom didn’t know better, we did do our best to take care of him with the knowledge we did have, keeping him in larger vases and whatnot). When I got a betta later, 5 gallon tank with a heater and a filter and some plants and semi-regular water changes, he only lived six months. Really don’t get it.
the only thing the break proof explosion proof dinosaur egg seems maybe good for is transporting fish? maybe? if its that spillproof and everything, itll probably survive me disobeying the laws of the road because free bird came up on the radio and its the guitar solo and my high rollover risk honda winds up overturned in a ditch. and then explodes. itd be good to know my fish would be okay :)
Maybe that first fish tank is for if you want to get those crazy shrimp (pistol shrimp)that can break glass by sending shockwaves as loud as a gunshot.
I know next to nothing about saltwater tanks and even I know that it was over stocked and some of the fish (specifically the blue tang aka Dory fish) need a far bigger tank than that.
Reefer here. Nice corals and fish but a Sailfin, dory, and a yellow tang is too much! Dory needs like a 5ft tank. Yellow tang can stay but dory and Sailfin need to go. 2.5/5 for fish but 4.5/5 Scape

We all just pray Evil Fish-Fairy doesnt visit us next.
I have the tiny 3 in 1 filter - I use it for my endler and white cloud fry rearing tanks, and my daphnia rearing tank. with plants etc... and both are only about 7 litres
I was gonna say, it looks like the one the sea monkey channel uses for aerating his tanks.
"Could you not have showcased your container in anything other than a tictac container?"
Brilliant.
Gosh they even *show* you that's too ridiculously small for a goldfish
Oh geez, read about that tank in the comment and it is *definitely* too small for tangs. They need at least a 6 ft tank
You can tell the blue tang is too big, the little sailfin tang is gonna be getting huge, and even the yellow tang needs a minimum of a 4ft tank with bigger being better
There's also a few damselfish in there and these guys get pretty aggressive, especially as they get older, pretty sure that striped damsel is one of the most aggressive...
Panda garra on the leaf is so cute tho
Temu going wild with these fish tanks💀 I love having my fish tanks explosion proof!
it is very important to have in a fish tank, explosion proof...
@@FishForThought indeed, especially breaking the floor with a tiny tank made from plastic
If it’s explosion proof then the Arabs can get it 😂
🤣
Don't forget to get your elbows wet!!! Omg Chirs I just spent the afternoon hacking at my jungle in the big aquarium so YES I did get my elbows wet and now I'm TIReD! and watching this cheered me up. Fun fact: I got towed by a fish (pike) when fishing from a kayak once!
I put the biggest tank I could fit in the corner with the slanted ceiling. Can't open the lid flap all the way and have to take it all off to work on stuff. Yes, think about clearance if you don't exactly know what to expect yet.
Happy New Year to my favorite fish tuber! Here’s to a year of amazing content and fish tank reviews.
HAPPY NEW YEARRR
finally set up my 5 gallon tank got my fish 4 days ago the tank is cycled his name is bubble :)
Nice! What fish is he?
I don't own a saltwater tank but im saving up for one and researching but i do know that dory needs a big tank i don't know about the other fish but i think the yellow one has the same problem.
Qotw: because of a doctor being stupid and not realizing i had strep throat i ended up laying in a hospital bed with scarlet fever for 9 days without eating any ACTUAL food. Usually i would just say "I've gone 9 days without eating " though.
Everyone else is sleeping in New Years day, but Repashy and Millie are still here making quality content
omg i guess so LOL
cries
Starting the new year with FTR, let's go folks!
My go to fun fact about myself is that I was bit by a blue and gold macaw (type of parrot) at the parrot rescue I work at and he gave me nerve damage in my middle finger. His name was Rocco and I despise him to this day.
I’m having my betta watch this from his planted 10 gallon aquarium so he knows how loved he is.
The outro makes watching the entire video worth it.
6:00 it's not really a completely aquatic plant, but Lucky Bamboo is a species of Dracaena. Those tend to go well in aquariums.
There was the one time, I did a wall and body painting with my poo.
I was 7months and managed to get out of pampers while I was doing midday sleeping alone in the child's room.
Idk how much this can say about me but it's hilarious
happy new year!!! thanks for making these videos!
Happy new year! Thanks for another great review!
Happy New Year Chris! 🎉
Happy new year to all of you ❤️
Happy Monday and happy new year ❤
HAPPY NEWYEAR!!
A girl can dream though lol
Qotw: I was born with a rare genetic disease (luckily not bad enough to cause anything too detrimental) that causes my eyes to have harmless brown flecks of colour in them called lisch nodules.
I was trying to net a minnow from my tank about a month ago and homie jumped out and onto my counter, then when I tried to pick him up he flopped onto the floor...I did not feel like the best fish keeper that day, even though that tank has a lid and it was only off to get him out
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Amazing video as always, definitely made me laugh!
QOTW: I got my scuba diving certificate last year (at the age of 11).
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳🥳🥳
Also question for anyone kind enough to give advice 🥹
I recently set up my first fish tank which is 10 gallons. I have 4-5 amano shrimp and 2 otocynclets. The shrimp and otos are thriving but i have 2 snails 🐌 that died when they ate, what i believe to be poop and waste at the bottom of the fish tank 😔 both snails were always fine on the walls of the tanks and surface but when they start eating the waste on the bottom they die and I don’t know how to prevent this 😞 if anyone could shed some light as to what I could do differently I would really appreciate it 😔
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 🎉😊
Happy new year 🎉 I am so sad rn I came back the 31 of December from vacation and my oranda goldfish was missing out of its tank all the fish was there and we realised it was a cat climbing threw the window .
Apparently my grandfather's words of fatherly wisdom to my dad in his teens were: Sex is not a frog, it doesn't jump away.
Amazon fish tank: I’m the least of your worries..
Bettas just existing: 😦
3:50 it's like cucumber infused water, but with fish, for your carnivorous pets
Been here since you started the channel chris your the man happy new year!
Happy New Year!!!
I was indeed eating breakfast and FRUIT when the tapeworm part came💀
You missed the tetra in with the goldfish in the pet fountain in the beginning of the video 😂
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!!
Bonne et heureuse année 😊 Happy new year all ^^
Happy new year to Hevrybody 🥂🎉. Chris, what I can do to make pearl weed to carpet instead of growing up ?
I just got out the hospital and cringing at terrible tanks is what I need as a distraction thank you broski 😎😎
Love these vids I always make sure my tank would be rated well on terms of safety and sometimes looks :)
QOTW: I once fell down a railroad embankment and impaled myself on a a broken metal fence post. It went in through my armpit.
Happy new year everyone!!! 🎉
QOTW: I once flayed my pointer finger open with a table saw, then had to have 12 stitches put in to sew it back together!
Wow a transparent fish tank what will they think of next
thx for these vids Chris cuz my fish are addicted to them.
the only thing the break proof explosion proof dinosaur egg seems maybe good for is transporting fish? maybe? if its that spillproof and everything, itll probably survive me disobeying the laws of the road because free bird came up on the radio and its the guitar solo and my high rollover risk honda winds up overturned in a ditch. and then explodes. itd be good to know my fish would be okay :)
Maybe that first fish tank is for if you want to get those crazy shrimp (pistol shrimp)that can break glass by sending shockwaves as loud as a gunshot.
Happy New Year!! ^.^
Happy New Year!!!
fun fact: I have myopia in my left eye, so I am short sighted both physically and philosphically.
I was really glad to see Chris knows to question that saltwater stocking. Those fish are healthy but will quickly outgrow the tank (if not already)
had a feelin!
Awesome way to start the year!
Good quality acrylic is just as good as glass, even better than glass for large tanks.
I bet that fish store wishes they had an explosion proof fish tank now 😏
I know next to nothing about saltwater tanks and even I know that it was over stocked and some of the fish (specifically the blue tang aka Dory fish) need a far bigger tank than that.
i got a 20gal with plants wood rocks from Canada ,shrimp and guppy's
Happy New year! Best content! Explosion proof? XD
Fun fact about myself!
I stepped on an exacto-knife when I was 4!
i have lived less than 3 hours away from the ocean for 27 years, yet i have never seen it in person
I love your fishy videos
Happy FTR Monday!
Thanks so much my mondays are always better with monday chris criticizim
Reefer here. Nice corals and fish but a Sailfin, dory, and a yellow tang is too much! Dory needs like a 5ft tank. Yellow tang can stay but dory and Sailfin need to go. 2.5/5 for fish but 4.5/5 Scape
