The saddest part to me is Nina is innocent. What does she know of the world's evils? She doesn't feel hatred or angry towards her father, her mind is still stuck on "this is my daddy" and she cares for him when he's dead
I don't know if her innocence is a mercy or makes it worse. She doesn't know what happened to her and all I can hope is that she isn't aware of her suffering.

Honestly, I don't know why you people are so mad about this. I've seen plenty of anime characters who've done horrible things that can be compared to this, but I don't see people getting mad over it. For example: Overhaul. He basically took the granddaughter of his boss, who he put in a coma, and then used her body to create bullets. He did this by drawing blood from her until she couldn't take no more, and then explode her body using his power, and then bring her back to life. He did this so many times. Yet I don't see anyone getting mad at him. In fact, I actually see people who like Overhaul. So why, why do people hate this man so much?

Daddy hurts... no Daddy..." literally crying. i never watched the english dub for fma but they did a pretty good job mimicking the distorted sound like from the original dub. this is just as miserable and that's why i'm crying. like honestly i've never felt this much pity and sorrow for a character before i watched fma.
The sad part is when her dad FREAKING murders her and the dog and makes them one. And then of course Scar kills him, and she goes: "Daddy is hurting..." and "Can we play now?"
Scar did the merciful thing and put her out of the suffering her damned turd of a dad put her and that sweet dog into just to keep a stupid job. Just sell groceries if you need the money so bad. I just don’t even know what to say. This is so disturbing to me, that such experimentation on an innocent child could have happened. At first it just seems like Shao was so desperate to keep his license as a state Alchemist, but then he reveals his true sadistic nature and how far he is willing to go, even what he would do to his own blood. In several video essays, it has come to the consensus that Ed was betrayed from this moment, and so deeply scarred, due to the fact, that he thought alchemy was a tool to help people, but then we reveal that the leadership of Amestris will do whatever they can to further their military and inhumane experiments. That we will never see that girl smile or play with her brothers again, reduced to such a pitiful aberration barely even capable of acknowledging reality, leads to you being crushed in such an unimaginable way by how cruel people are in both fiction and reality. The series has been that of science and religion, and it was the idea today that science is the ultimate factor, that religion is an aging construct (I don’t believe this), and that only through science can the human race push on. Science is a powerful field of study, and with it comes several ethical concerns in the past leading up to today: Abortion, CRISPR, Human and animal experimentation, Lucifer Effect’s prison experiment, Designer Babies, Human Cloning, Euthanasia: I could go on. We all have to be very careful, and adhere to the moral guidelines that we have set for ourself, and not by society, so that we understand the weight of conscientious morals and right and wrong, so that we don’t become cruel and vile ourselves. Side Note: I can’t unheard what I heard, so I’m going to say it anyway: I’m pretty sure that this cruel scene was inspired form Mengel’s otherworldly scary and inhumane experiments during WW2.

Just sitting while looking at the fields. Thinking about what she did during all those times she had. She was pleasant on how it happened. As her final minute kicks in, she began to see her father and said "Im coming home father!"

The scene where Nina and Alexander beg for Shou's life and later when they mourn his death really reminds me of another scene, where the nature of purely Kind-hearted people are explored. It was in the Mysterious stranger by mark Twain, and it was when a dog who knew nothing but abuse and pain from his drunken master was the only one who mourned when his master died because he loved him despite all the pain the master caused him. The mysterious stranger remarks at that point how no human could ever be capable of such unconditional forgiveness, kindness, or love. The chimera Nina expresses exactly this when she shows genuin concern for her father's well being, even though he gave her a fate worse than death. Alphonse likely only stopped Edward because he didn't want to see his brother murder a man out of hatred. Either it was Alexander's or Nina's or even a mix of the two, but it showed that they made up a very rare set of people. Those that will love you no matter how much abuse you throw at them. That for me, only makes their ultimate fate hit harder.
You know, I think at one point, Shou was a decent parent, because why else would Nina love him so much. I think his studies into Alchemy really twisted his self awareness and consciousness that it made him who he was. That's essentially a thing that can happen when you're so focused on a work or a craft in life when you don't have other hobbies or somebody to tell you to stop before you get to deep into it. Granted what he does go far beyond that, but at a basic analysis it is a somewhat similar symptom.
He was a decent parent. But not because he cared for his daughter. Or anyone, on that matter. I prefer to think he is a psychopath. He just couldn’t connect with other people, didn’t feel attachment. He probably acted like a good parent just because he could, and to be seen as one. What kind of a father would kill his wife (idk how else to put it) and continue living like nothing ever happened, in front of a child who he knows misses her mom.
All throughout this I was thinking, “No, please, not again, why, this child didn’t deserve this. Don’t put her through this again, don’t put me through this again, don’t put Big Brother through this again. Don’t put anyone through this again.”
Fun Fact: Later in the Full Metal Alchemist manga, it is suggested that there is a way to reverse the effects of a Chimera fusion. Unfortunately, Scar murdered Nina Tucker believing her to be a monster in torment, so this option wasn't available at the time.
yeah, in one of the animes where Shou lived, but Scar STILL atacked the convoy carrying Nina and killed her, Shou himself found a method my leeching all the Canine DNA into himself...but with Nina already dead, all he had was a soulless doll. Screw you, Scar.
I balled like a baby during this, as a grown man I'm not afraid to admit it. One of the saddest things I've ever seen in any movie or show. Only things that compare are Fry's dog in Futurama and the beginning of Up
In FMAB Tucker is a psychopath who had no regrets about what he did to his daughter. His last moments were reflecting on how he felt no one understood him. This is creepy enough but in the 2003 version Tucker remarks "I knew my life would be ruined either way, so I choose to see if I could do it." Tucker loved his daughter enough that he could recognize that his life would be "ruined" without her in it but he still chose to do it. His passion for science won out. Now THAT chills me to the bones. It wasn't that he didn't feel ANY feelings for his little girl, it's that he was able to do what he did to her IN SPITE of loving her.
This scene is still sad as hell, but...a question came to mind The military made chimera soldiers that could change back to human form at will Would it have been possible to bring Nina to the military and have her 'modified' so if nothing else she could turn herself back into a human form? Or are chimera stuck the way they're originally made?
What a lot of people don't pay attention to is the fact that he did this to his wife too. What he did to nina was beyond fucked up but it wasn't even his first time doing it. The fact that he did this to not only the thing that HE helped bring into the world but also the woman he swore his life to all for the name of keeping his job really shows how fucked tucker really is.
At first I thought her dad was a good man, but once I learned what he did to his wife and repeated the same thing with his daughter I realized how much of a sick, twisted and sadistic man he was, poor Nina, she was so young and innocent. 😭😢

For what he’s done in his human life, the soul of Shou Tucker is in the Eighth Circle of Hell: Fraud, in the Malebolge of Sorcerers, Magicians, Alchemists, and Fortune Tellers. His head is twisted the wrong way on his body, forced to look back as he and countless others walk forward and guarded by demons who oversee the punishments in those ditches.

The fact that this anime has the worst father in all of anime (Shou Tucker, of course) and the best father in all of anime (Maes Hughes) is the definition of irony.
Alright, can we please get a show in which each episode is simply a different FMA character killing Tucker and avenging Nina. Or one where everything is the same but Nina and Alexander are alive and are adopted by the Hughes, and taken care by everyone’s favorite dad (who is also very much alive) I need that in my life, I need it now.
You know I worry I've been so effected by so many tragic fandoms and stories/characters that when I wasnt even effected watching this I was a little worried. But it is heartbreaking. I have seen and read several anime and manga some of which are more disturbing than fma, but nothing has ever hit me as hard as what happened to nina, I just can't wrap my mind around why? I have read berserk, it disturbed me at many instances, but nina and her fate straight up haunts me till date, I have watched this series about 7 years ago and read the manga over a decade ago, and have consumed a large amount of manga and anime after that but no matter how dark or disturbing things I read or see in other series, nothing haunts me like nina. It was in the Mysterious stranger by mark Twain, and it was when a dog who knew nothing but abuse and pain from his drunken master was the only one who mourned when his master died because he loved him despite all the pain the master caused him. The mysterious stranger remarks at that point how no human could ever be capable of such unconditional forgiveness, kindness, or love.
The chimera Nina expresses exactly this when she shows genuin concern for her father's well being, even though he gave her a fate worse than death. Alphonse likely only stopped Edward because he didn't want to see his brother murder a man out of hatred.
Either it was Alexander's or Nina's or even a mix of the two, but it showed that they made up a very rare set of people. Those that will love you no matter how much abuse you throw at them.
That for me, only makes their ultimate fate hit harder.

You know, I think at one point, Shou was a decent parent, because why else would Nina love him so much. I think his studies into Alchemy really twisted his self awareness and consciousness that it made him who he was. That's essentially a thing that can happen when you're so focused on a work or a craft in life when you don't have other hobbies or somebody to tell you to stop before you get to deep into it. Granted what he does go far beyond that, but at a basic analysis it is a somewhat similar symptom.

He was a decent parent. But not because he cared for his daughter. Or anyone, on that matter. I prefer to think he is a psychopath. He just couldn’t connect with other people, didn’t feel attachment. He probably acted like a good parent just because he could, and to be seen as one. What kind of a father would kill his wife (idk how else to put it) and continue living like nothing ever happened, in front of a child who he knows misses her mom.
All throughout this I was thinking, “No, please, not again, why, this child didn’t deserve this. Don’t put her through this again, don’t put me through this again, don’t put Big Brother through this again. Don’t put anyone through this again.”

Later in the Full Metal Alchemist manga, it is suggested that there is a way to reverse the effects of a Chimera fusion. Unfortunately, Scar murdered Nina Tucker believing her to be a monster in torment, so this option wasn't available at the time.
yeah, in one of the animes where Shou lived, but Scar STILL atacked the convoy carrying Nina and killed her, Shou himself found a method my leeching all the Canine DNA into himself...but with Nina already dead, all he had was a soulless doll. Screw you, Scar.

I balled like a baby during this, as a grown man I'm not afraid to admit it. One of the saddest things I've ever seen in any movie or show. Only things that compare are Fry's dog in Futurama and the beginning of Up
In FMAB Tucker is a psychopath who had no regrets about what he did to his daughter. His last moments were reflecting on how he felt no one understood him. This is creepy enough but in the 2003 version Tucker remarks "I knew my life would be ruined either way, so I choose to see if I could do it." Tucker loved his daughter enough that he could recognize that his life would be "ruined" without her in it but he still chose to do it. His passion for science won out. Now THAT chills me to the bones. It wasn't that he didn't feel ANY feelings for his little girl, it's that he was able to do what he did to her IN SPITE of loving her.

What a lot of people don't pay attention to is the fact that he did this to his wife too. What he did to nina was beyond fucked up but it wasn't even his first time doing it. The fact that he did this to not only the thing that HE helped bring into the world but also the woman he swore his life to all for the name of keeping his job really shows how fucked tucker really is.
When I first saw that episode I was on the brink of tears and to not cry I Screamed at the top of my lungs into a pillow

For what he’s done in his human life, the soul of Shou Tucker is in the Eighth Circle of Hell: Fraud, in the Malebolge of Sorcerers, Magicians, Alchemists, and Fortune Tellers. His head is twisted the wrong way on his body, forced to look back as he and countless others walk forward and guarded by demons who oversee the punishments in those ditches.

You know I worry I've been so effected by so many tragic fandoms and stories/characters that when I wasnt even effected watching this I was a little worried. But it is heartbreaking. Uh, personally, Scar, I like to imagine Tucker in hell, not heaven. Tucker in FMA03 gets a redemption arc I like but still, I squint at Shou, like Goddamn you couldnt just be poor again and find another way, you selfishly use your own child and dog to save your own ass?
I have seen and read several anime and manga some of which are more disturbing than fma, but nothing has ever hit me as hard as what happened to nina, I just can't wrap my mind around why? I have read berserk, it disturbed me at many instances, but nina and her fate straight up haunts me till date, I have watched this series about 7 years ago and read the manga over a decade ago, and have consumed a large amount of manga and anime after that but no matter how dark or disturbing things I read or see in other series, nothing haunts me like nina. Damn, she was just for a couple of chapters and episodes. I can't figure out why this haunts me more than anything.💔
