I loved the woman in her 30 year with her intensity and her vocal performances.
I loved the 40 year old with her willingness to discover many different musical styles, always with a fabulous voice.
And I love the woman in her 50s who has managed to preserve her voice through hard work, adapting to the evolution of her voice while retaining that little bit of enthusiasm and complicity that makes us melt.

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

Lara is an international legend. She has written 200+ songs in 4 languages (not this one though, this is a cover) covered by most great singers from the past and current generation.
Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban covered her songs.
And I check your recent videos: Dimash and Jackie Evancho covered several of her songs (she even wrote lyrics of songs for them), she is an inspiration for them, but also Diana Ankudinova, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, … covered at least one of her songs.

Lara can speak and understand a little Dutch as well. Belgium is divided in 2 parts, one part is the French speaking part and the other is Flemish. Flemish is Dutch with an accent as that part of Belgium belonged to the Dutch back in the day. Fun fact back in the day American soldiers in World War 2 tought they were in France and called the fries "French fries" but the soldiers were in the French speaking part of Belgium not in France. Americans call them French fries because of this mistake made in WW2. The Belgiums invented fries so they really should be called Belgium fries. Belgium fries are served with mayonaise, they do this in The Netherlands as well. Mayonaise from Belgium is nothing like American mayonaise by the way. Suggest to listen to the song Je t'aime sang by Lara Fabian. Pick the version of Je t'aime in Paris. That is one of Lara Fabian' most emotional performances

I have no idea what the French language sounds like. I think I was mis reading her name and said Laura . When I saw it come up today and saw it said Lara I thought my son wrote it wrong. Anyway no problem. Lara is amazing and fabulous and I really love her voice.

If you want to hear her in English try Broken Vow or Adagio from the same concert ( Lara with Love )you will be hook for life.
