The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian.
Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he co-composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You or Hero and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that increased Celine Dion WW fame). He is also now the producer of Dimash for his US career.
When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, they were living in San Francisco’s bay area, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics.
Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels).
One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests:
- Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it),
- Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US, she is her friend and role model and he made several duets with her),

I just discovered Lara a few months back & wondered why was she not a big ⭐️ in the United States. As an American I thought “Sometimes we are stupid”. This time both Lara & Celine Dion signed with the “Sony Label”. Celine got promoted in the United States & Canada. While, Lara was promoted around the World, but not in the United States. Sony saw her gift of many languages & Lara has continued as a bearer of Musical Fruit. She ruled the EuroPop Rock Chart. Like Mariah Carey she took songs that had been hits & put her own spin into the song: “I will always love you” written & released twice becoming the #1 Country song on Country Music Chart. Then Whitney Houston released the song in a Grand Production & it became famous world wide. Lara’s performance is heavily influenced by Whitney Houston’s version, mainly pulling the Sax out & putting an electric guitar into the middle of the song. *Lara knocked Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” out of the park like it was nothing. The entry you will love as a metal head. *Always pick a live performance with Lara Fabian. She sings in 13 Languages & Now speaks in 8 Languages. Turkish is the most recent & she is fluent, not once did she stutter during an interview. This concert “From Lara with Love” was part of a PBS fundraiser. During this time period hair extensions had not yet come out, so that is her hair. Shoot I play for the other team, but for Lara sign me up I’m changing.
* Side Note: Dolly Parton has officially retired due to her husband falling into dementia. She must be with him 24/7 now. She tells a story in all her songs & after singing one she said, “That paints a pretty good picture”.
