Sightseeing navigation in Shirakawa-go
Centered on the UNESCO world heritage site of Ogi-machi, the “World Heritage Area” contains a number of gassho style houses preserved in their original form since around 1800. In this area, even today, people continue their daily lives, surrounded by the uniquely beautiful scenery. Since each tourist office offers information such as walking maps and places of interest, they make for an ideal first stop upon arrival. The “Southern Nature Area” around Hirase is a hot spring region where you can enjoy the simple purity of nature. The hot springs at Oshirakawa are particularly popular with women, renowned for their beautifying effects on the skin and also known as “Kodakara no Yu” (fertility baths). Travelling between the “World Heritage Area” and the “Southern Nature Area” takes about fifteen minutes by bus or car. Whether visiting the gassho style houses of the world heritage site, or relaxing body and mind in the hot spring baths, we hope you will enjoy your time in Shirakawa-go.

Also I envy the Japanese. They rarely have health problems that requires medical attention. They actually encourage me to eat healthier:)

@@mod4516 winter or autumn has its own charm. It depends on your preference. If you like snow better than autumn foliage then you must go during winter. As for me, since autumn is my favourite season, I prefer to go during autumn than winter.
@Benny Ben I am from Indonesia, but I have lived in Japan for 3 years to get my Doctoral degree. If I compare between Japan and Indonesia, Japan surely more expensive, but if I compare Japan to US or Germany, it almost equally expensive.

I come from a villiage nearby, Shirakawa in particular probably won't be a very nice place to live because of the immense amount of tourists and a lot of the houses are open for people to drop in at any time which would be not very conductive to a peaceful life i think. The surrounding villiages, although not quite as kept in their heritage state, are very similar aside from the buildings (most houses look like the ones in the video with metal roofing) so I'd recommend living there instead if you wanted to (it's very cheap to live there too, so if you were determined I'm sure anyone could go there, the extra people/revenue would do the less known villiages good too)
Seek God first and his kingdom. Because just think about, you'll get something infinitely better than this when we are with God.

Wish to visit wonderful/ancient Japan some years
In a so-so remote place in Yokoshiba-hikari, I used to live on a hill top 2-storey house surrounded with trees including sakura and crazy racoons. When you go down the hill, you’d see that it’s surrounded with rice fields and a river. I lived there for 5 years. Life and the universe humbled me and made me realize to always live in the present moment - take it slow. I was amazed how it made my weary soul peaceful and love life even more. I will always treasure the memories Japan has given me. O hope everybody can find peace within especially in these trying times.

i remember living in my father's village for the summer when I was young. although it didn't look like this one in Japan, it had a very similar climate and beautiful green views and this video brings back that nostalgia. you are so lucky and your kid will really treasure this memory when they grow up.

Gorgeous video, each frame was so carefully set up yet seemed so instinctively chosen. I'm suspecting that you just have a great aesthetic eye, a natural creative gift. I love Shirakawa-go, it's breath-takingly gorgeous all year round, in all seasons and weathers-- even in the rain when the mist swirls around the mountains. But it's a perfect place for a summer time ice-cream made with local Hida milk: can you feel any happier in life than at that moment? The little swallows aren't afraid of humans and there are tadpoles in the rice paddies. Charming details everywhere, like the way glass bottles of soft drinks are sold on the street, all sitting in a small tub with a watermill washing mountain water over them with an honesty box to the side. You can buy all kinds of locally made speciality products to support the residents all kind enough to share their magical village landscape and streets with all us wide-eyed, incredibly happy, relaxed tourists. :) Wonderful video, thank you for the upload.
