Tammy Lucas is a singer/songwriter and vocal producer born with music in her blood. Her Dad is Ray Lucas, Soul Jazz Funk & RnB drummer who played with the Apollo house band/Jimi Hendrix/ Dionne Warwick /Donnie Hathaway/Nina Simone and many more. Also her Mom, was lead of a girl group for a time.
Tammy's recording artistry began as result of being a member of the legendary Paradise Garage. She was introduced to up and coming producers; Boyd Jarvis & Timmy Regisford. She wrote lyrics & melody to Jarvis' club track, her 1st song HEY BOY and performed it on the Paradise Garage stage while the maestro himself Mr. Larry Levan mixed her debut record from the DJ booth.
Tammy began writing and recording songs with Teddy Riley when he was a HIP HOP producer. Her soulful style help create the New Jack Swing sound. Together they co-wrote the song JOY with Michael Jackson for his Dangerous album. She helped Chad & Pharrell get signed to their 1st deal and began writing sessions with them that lasted for years. Tammy was an integral part of the production duo's writing team, and she helped them create the super successful Neptune sound.

This is incredible. SWV is my favorite R&B group of all time, but somehow I prefer this version of the song because it's understated & subtle, with a grainy sound...this is what I want to hear entering a dimly lit wine bar ;)

Nice rare track! I liked how Tammy sings it, very different to Coko. Both version are great. Interesting fact you can hear Joe on the tail end of the background vocals of the SWV accapella version and very clearly at the end.
Wow!! I never knew the male's voice in this song was Joe. I have never heard this version before until now. I like it. I love me some SWV, but Tammy's voice is wonderful too. I like the smooth, jazzy sound.

Very talented and very selfless to think about other artists besides herself that's a gift just goes to show you that everything that you create has value Tammy doesn't have to get back in any studio if she don't want
She can just relax and drop her demos and those demos will make money if that's what she wants to do I listen to this a couple of times and I really like it raised in the 90s I love this type of music as someone who does music myself it let me know that no matter what my age is I can release my stuff and you never know it may just do great things it doesn't always have to be something negative congratulations to Miss Lucas I wish her nothing but the best really pretty woman in all her pictures too❤️

Wow. This is really a gem. Would love to hear a cdq version of this. I bet there are adats and flopoy disks laying around in producers' basements of all the great demos/reference tracks of hits from the '90s. I'm guesding alotta those pre-digital age producers likely haven't transferred everything to digital hard drives yet.

I was just talking about Tammy Lucas and the Neptunes…being Teddy Riley protégés the other day …Tammy sung the hook for “ Is It Good For You?” by Heavy D & The Boyz but Teddy Riley did a version of that instrumental with Tammy singing verses with that same hook…it appeared on the Juice music soundtrack…I knew that she was a well known studio session singer who toured with well known artists as background singer just like Faith Evans , Mary J Blige, Debra Killings, and Kelly Price , etc in the early 90’s…the music label executives were more concerned about looks than actual vocal talent went came down to marketing at a time when BET and MTV with Video Vibrations and MTV Jams…being more about how you looked…even Soul Train, the artists lip synced and it was more about how she looked…maybe she didn’t have a knockout figure and not willing to wear sexy outfits…Missy Elliot was so traumatized by what label executives would say about her looks…after Sista lost their deal through De Vante’s production company…all she wanted to do was rap on other people’s songs…co write and co produce/ arrange vocals…Sylvia Stone at Elektra Records…had to beg her to do a solo album because she knew how talented she was…Tammy Lucas was more like Faith Evans and Debra Killings…she created the blueprint for a lot of artists to have monster hits!
She was meant to be the first Artist to release an album on Teddy's Lil Man label followed by the Neptunes and then Queen Pen. Teddy decided otherwise and sadly lost them

It's crazy that some artists don't think themselves the way that we do. I was on a cruise w/LeAnne SWV). She was shocked that ppl, especially kids, still love SWV. I told her they've always been relevant, on the radio, ppl knew who she was, the old hades play their music so the youngins hear it & love SWV. I've known her since 93. She didn't know that I have always been a fan, from day 1, until 2016. I put them beside New Edition. She had no idea. She said I never talked abt it unless they brought it up. She thought we didn't rock w/them. I said bit@h...stop playin! 😊 I wanted to ask a lot of questions, but that was kinda weird. I love SWV like I've never been around them. WHEN Tammy comes out w/some tracks I'm all in. Absolutely. Tammy has been trippin. We love her. I'll buy the old & the new songs.
