@breeisenough9488 testing one self is a dream many want to propel to. I'm sure if they could do it all over, they would still go stateside(its the mecca of many singers' achievement). It's the circle of life. A singer will always want to go solo eventually, and a conscious spoken word artist will always stay true to what they feel is right. They left a legacy and music we can always draw back to

@freebernard3473 Neo-Soul was built on a Hip-Hop template so that can't be true.
If you remove The Ummah, the Roots, and Common, there is no Neo-Soul. The black music discussion is bs. Are you depending on the machine to push you in a positive light to the world? Would you listen to an old Common Sense or Black Thought verse and think that's possible?

We can all claim that we love the times we’re living in now but it was nothing like the music and culture of the 90’s and before that. There was so much more love all around. Be fr with yourself.

Bp themselves helped ruin it because other blk folks during that time only care about rap and foolishness. Bw only wanted dudes to sing to them or that Trey Songs thing while Bw themselves talk crap about bm in their music. Then bm were pushing swag and sleeping around in their music. There were nothing meaningful pushed in the mainstream at that point unless it was what someone’s image represented.

I think it’s important to realize, accept, and understand that not everybody is meant to be life time friends even in the capacity in which you’ve made money or history together. Some people are in entertainment groups with their siblings and they fall out all the time sometimes the relationship flourishes outside of business, in it or not at all.
We could all wish they was still cool at some capacity but it wasn’t our experience that was lived so none of us really know how we would feel or react to protecting our peace on both ends.

Which ideology should WE as black people and BLACK WOMEN specifically be following. That was the same problem, no contradiction, that plagued US in the 1950s and 1960s. I used to see them in Philly at the Black Lilly for $5 bucks every week. Black lily was a weekly showcase that featured female talent on Tuesday night and Questlove was one of the backers as well as Jazzyfatnastees, one of them were married to the Roots manager (RIP). For a while the roots used to be the house band. Jill Scott, jaguar Wright, Kindred and family soul, Jazzyfatnastees, Jazmine Sullivan and a rock band performed there. Jill Scott stopped performing there once she was signed and started recording. So Kindred was the best act and Floetry was the second-best set.
One day they were walking by my job at 5th and market, they were arguing with each other walking down the street. I interrupted them and let them know how much I appreciate their music. They had big smiles and thanked me. They then went back to arguing.
There was one song they did they perform that they never released on a record. It used to start with "I wouldn't even mind if we were friends". It was on a cd that kindred and the family soul bootlegged for the Black Lilly showcase. They were promptly told to stop selling it. I still have my copy.
Natelie use to act like she was the star of the show on stage. Marsha didn't need her, and most people thought the same.
J.Erving is DR Julius Erving's son FYI.

There is alway a person or people planting deviant seeds to fulfill their own personal goals. Whether it exposing artists to drugs/ financially abusing or deliberately separating groups. You hear artists such as Xscape, Angie Stone, male artist all talk about being mistreatment and outsiders causing division. The Music Industry isn’t there to support, but to drain for their own gains.

I loved me some Floetry. When they hit the radio, it was NOTHING like what was being played... And that in itself was EVERYTHING DIFFERENT, BUT SO RIGHT!!! I hate they COULDN'T get it TOGETHER, TALK ABOUT THE PROBLEMS, FIND A SOLUTION, & PUSH PASS IT. To be best friends, & now your NOT, that's a lot. It makes you question, WAS YOU REALLY BEST FRIENDS 🤔. Then that sends thoughts into one's head. I wish BOTH of them the BEST in they perspective careers that they love. ❤️

Tye Tribbett used to be in those chats before the fame. They loved their fans. We'll i know Natalie did. She even called me a couple of times. Would get backstage. Those were the days.

But ! None of that Mattered !
In Entertainment, It is very hard to mesh personalities ! Ego's, wants, needs, visions and artistry, have torn apart so many groups and partnerships. You must maintain, respect, common courtesy and complete open communication to each other ! And Still ! You are at each others mercy !
