I can remember doing a show with you on men and motor's where we tried three cars to drive to see which one i would buy, I wanted a tvr at the time. Sadly you couldn't find a tvr so it was your air-cooled Porsche 911 (Which I hit the camera man with, I thought I was in reverse but sadly I was in first) a Marcus, and a caterham 7. I did buy the tvr, but I should have bought the air-cooled Porsche 911 it would have been worth a fortune now.... opps 😔 also it was about 2002 not 1999 when you joined top gear, I can remember when talking to you on that day you were being considered and hopping to get the top gear job, I have been watching you ever since
This guy doesn’t give himself enough credit, having been able to BS his way through 7 whole years of his life, but I’ll agree with him in that it does seem like he’s calmed down a lot with time.
His style of presentation was also the most distinct I felt within the trio. He is easily the most flamboyant of the three, as well as being the most exuberant.
@@MegaHariboboy I think a lot of it has to do with his radio experience in the 80s. He knows how to have a grip on things while presenting in a way the other two don’t quite have.

I actually worked with Richard on Men and Motors back in the day. I Remember him picking me up for a shoot in his wife's Rav 4. Was a great day filming around Sheffield and a great guy.
Ahh, telly nostalgia, I remember Richard doing Men & Motors, it was entertaining stuff, at a time when Top Gear was the only car show on national TV, and quite staid too. Richard was in fact a pioneer, as the shows were clearly just him, and a bloke with a camcorder, shooting everything in an couple of hours, often in the rain... In fact, it was mostly similar 'content' to what is on TH-cam today, bloke talking to his phone, but years before TH-cam even existed! Richard mate, everyone is still copying you!

Did you see his "Should I Be Worried About...?" series? I think thats the only one I skipped after the first episode. But I did love Brainiac: Science Abuse (particularly the hot professor).
That's one of my favourite episodes! I know that a lot of it is a set up / loosely scripted, but it was still hilariously funny. I remember James referring to the Work of the Divine Potter very clearly indeed...
Richard Hammond is one of the very few people i would absolutely love to meet in person, but will never, ever get the chance to. He seems like a genuinely awesome bloke!

I was there back in the day watching Men & Motors. I can remember saying “That Richard Hammond bloke should be on Top Gear”. The internet was in its infancy and we had these cable/ satellite shows to get our car and “specialist” fixes 😂.

As weird as it must have been watching yourself presenting cars over 20 years ago, I think those vintage videos are still a treat especially when shopping for a now classic/youngtimer. When searching for my current car, a 2003 Z4 3.0i, a review done by you + a comparative review with JM & JC truly helped in the pursuit of the purchase 👍🏽 It's that enthusiasm that keeps you gripped to Top Gear & The Grand Tour for so many years 👏🏽

As someone who watches a lot of Top Gear on DAVE, it's strange to see how much Hammond has aged. He's aged well. But I don't always notice it thanks to endless reruns.
Ah men, what a great video, what a trip by the side of the great Richard Hammond. I enjoyed every second of it. I love these guys so much, it's just incredible.
I absolutely love this video! The first time I saw Richard was when he reviewed the VFR400 on 2 Wheels on M&M, I loved him from that moment! I also remember his review of a Kawasaki Drifter and his 2 part Oulton Park track day experience. All pivotal moments in making me a fan of his. When he secured the Top Gear job I was so excited for him, I knew he would be great. I used to watch old TG and Driven too so I knew of Clarkson and May as well, TG was just the best! Richard has always had a brilliant presenting style, and seeing him react to himself was so cute, he's not changed at all! I remember those shirts very well 😂. I hope to see a part 2 to this, including some old motorbike reviews please 😁
This was a missed opportunity in some ways. I would have loved to see his reaction to reviewing cars like the Perodua Kelisa or Proton Impian. Cars which they later mercilessly bashed on TG. Hoping for a Part 2.

Richard,I am older than you (64) so you look young today and even younger way way back when. The two cars i recall you reviewing , for no reason, was the Scenic 4x4 and a Rav 4. I remember at the end of one review , not sure which car, you said you would consider buying one with your own cash !
This is pretty funny because I've been watching a lot of Hammond's reviews on men and motors recently (including most of the clips he used) and was wondering to myself if he had ever re-visited them. Hilarious.
Hammond (or actually any TV personality) was lucky that he started his career at a time before social media existed when viewers were not able to comment or sh** on the videos and thus accuracy of information was not as critical as today when all you need is for one viewer to point out an error for the whole world to turn against you
I remember being a visiting engineer at the Ford Saarlouis factory in Germany (Working on the original Focus RS) and the whole off line area was full of the very first production ST170s

This is quite a lot like top gear! Richard brought some quality to the table. Top Gear is the best thing in TV history.

Richard,I am older than you (64) so you look young today and even younger way way back when. The two cars i recall you reviewing , for no reason, was the Scenic 4x4 and a Rav 4. I remember at the end of one review , not sure which car, you said you would consider buying one with your own cash !

This is pretty funny because I've been watching a lot of Hammond's reviews on men and motors recently (including most of the clips he used) and was wondering to myself if he had ever re-visited them. Hilarious.
Hammond (or actually any TV personality) was lucky that he started his career at a time before social media existed when viewers were not able to comment or sh** on the videos and thus accuracy of information was not as critical as today when all you need is for one viewer to point out an error for the whole world to turn against you
I remember being a visiting engineer at the Ford Saarlouis factory in Germany (Working on the original Focus RS) and the whole off line area was full of the very first production ST170s

Hammond if you see this you were always my favorite in top gear when I was a kid! Clarkson is now on a farming spree and May is bumping his Honda through London 🤣🤣 how times changed
