I named my Honda after John, solely because of the amount of sticky situations he’s gotten me out of. John (from the show) was a truly wonderful machine.
Was honored when they named it John, because Johns are dependable. Was heartbroken when it lost in the first round. That truck was brilliant. Truly a shame that it had to be destroyed.
I think Ive genuinely watched it about 5/6 times so far lol. Its probably my favourite special out of both Top Gear and GT. It easily put Mongolia on my bucket list of places to visit. What a magnificent episode and country.
I'm shocked that John wasn't in the top 2... the Mongolian special is our all-time favorite. Story, cinematography, the journey, everything was just great.
Hammond gotta be the only guy to say "if you've just joined us" towards the end of a youtube video. That's some classical film and radio training right there.
It is definitely awesome to see the difference between what most fans think and what he feels. We all loved John! Richard is the reason for my love of wrx's. From the africa special 'heart of the nile' i said I am gonna go get one of those for myself and I did.
This was the video I've always imagined I wanted to see because the series is coming to an end next year and would love to see the other 2 join the trend as well !
The Focus was a brilliant build. Unfortunately it didn't work as well as it could have. Loved the tank in Dubai 😂 The Dodge Demon and Hellcat seemed to give you a great smile factor.
Fantastic video, but we're partial to Fury. As a matter of fact, is that a little Fury diecast on your shelf right behind the motorcycle at 2:22? ...next to a little diecast of the MBG GT that you race?! That's so cool! I wonder if anyone else would want one of those? (We might have even made them). :) Love ya, Richard! Keep the DriveTribe videos coming! -Vic and Johnny, FH
I'm glad to see Martin made it out the champ. As an original owner of a USDM 2004 STi , black with gold wheels (first year in the US). I still look at it lovingly as I walk out my house to get in to my work-issued boremobile every morning.
Don't ever sell it! I sold mine in the UK and have regretted it ever since... (Black 2004, Sti PPP Type UK, gold rims replaced with black with diamond cut edges).
@@gppowis no worries I plan on keeping it forever. Mom has a 2002 bugeye auto wagon in WRB with gold Prodrive P1s, we love our subies in this household
Happy New Year DRIVETRIBE ! i wish you lot of customers and that everything works out well. i would love to see all 3 of you together again even in a pub just for talk.
the Subaru is such an amazing car , I absolutely loved it from the special and it makes me really happy that Richard actually bought and still drives it
Happy to see the WRX on top, i have mine for nearly 10 years now and it got to a point where it felt.. maybe it was time. But rewatching the show and the followup 'rebuild' of the car, i just smile each time i sit in the car again. No, it aint a STI (though it got the exhaust and spoiler), but for me it remains 1 of the most beatifull cars ever build. If i only i would give it more 'care' :(
John or Martin were always my top picks. John quite literally hopped his way into getting you some alcohol, and Martin, well i don’t think there was any other car you had quite as much fun in as Martin
Can you restore the Buick Riviera soon? it looks so awesome and it gives me massive Due South nostalgia, because one of the main characters of that show had a green 72 riviera for the main vehicle.
As Richard said: it's such a great representation of that car maker at that time that I imagine there must no temptation to seriously modify, only restore/replace. So it could be a smooth operation.
That turned out exactly as I expected 😂. I've owned an STI of that generation and sold it during the pandemic for more than I paid for it. Got my 57 Bel Air, which was a dream car of mine, but have recently considered selling it for an SSR.
Between Geoff and John, it's hard to decide. Definitely tough to decide between Bolivia and Middle East. I believe the best moment is probably the big dramatic entrance after his injury. All the dancing girls and everything. You were absolutely staggered.
I'll be honest: I would have bet all my money on John, but it didn't even make it past the first stage. I understand it might have been a miserable experience, but the Mongolia special was just glorious.
Bewildered that John would be out first round. That's a top 5 car in these three's career. Just goes to show how much they hate each other, that a brilliant car suffered just because they all fit in it.
Nice tournament! I think it's a good choice that Subaru won. I think that Matra Murena is also interesting. I like that type of car. The Chevrolet SSR doesn't look too serious, but it looks fun.
Honestly can understand the logic behind eliminating John but he was definitely the greatest GT car, in the greatest GT special My personal top 5 would be; 1.John 2.Beach Buggy 3.Subaru 4.Buic 5.Scarab boat
Hammond is still so young how can you end grand tour with just another special, come on drivetribe just have Richard doing grand tour alone I will watch it
My favorite is the Fiat, because I’m old enough to remember before they all rusted away, and I’ve always wanted a poor man’s Stratos. Can I have it, please?
I’m surprised that John didn’t achieve higher, even though from what I remember Richard never was able to drive him cause the other two wouldn’t let him, John was the only car that I remember that never broke down, he survived the bumpy meadow, his signature hop up hills, he even survived being drowned, justice for John ✊
I think it’s interesting to see this. There’s ones you assume Hammond pretended to like for TV, but didn’t actually like. But here it’s revealed he actually at least kinda liked them (the Maserati for example, or the Fiat X1/9)
Mine would be the Demon followed very close by the Riviera. I'd never take the Subaru. I hate Japanese cars. But as an American I hate the SSR. lol An old friend had the twin of the Riviera and when we met I fell in love with his car. But as a hot rod guy, I want the sheer ignorant power of the Demon. Just my opinions. Lots of fun! Thanks for doing this.
@DRIVETRIBE, Please Very Please May you Ask Richard Hammond for me, Just this Once, Which Out of these 2 of His Ultimate Cars?, Would Win and to Keep and the Other to Sell in an Auction and they are: 1. Oliver From Top Gear Botswana Special and Richard Hammond's Blast Lab OR 2. Martini - the Subaru Impreza Sti V-Limited From The Grand Tour: The Scandi Flick From James Duggins
John is obviously the true gigachad amongst all these cars. None of the others can boast the same achievement as John...
I named my Honda after John, solely because of the amount of sticky situations he’s gotten me out of. John (from the show) was a truly wonderful machine.
John jumping with enthusiasm, and swimming to victory, will always be some of my favorite moments
John is the true best car
Built by them and carry the 3 buffons
Hammond is wrong
Maybe is because he drive it a lot
Was honored when they named it John, because Johns are dependable. Was heartbroken when it lost in the first round. That truck was brilliant. Truly a shame that it had to be destroyed.
Of course John is amazing but never forget the first guy, Geoff
JOHN?! You eliminated JOHN?! He was such a nice, dependable chap! He hopped his way into our hearts…
They didn't let him drive it 😂
Watching that special I can see why he didn’t choose it I as a viewer I would choose it but him as the one who had to experience it I don’t blame him
John was more of a team car too. Not just Richard’s. Wonder if that played into his decision.
@@eradaalmasi7590Am sure he drove it . He just doesn't remember it 😂
Your pain is shared.
The Mongolian adventure remains my most-watched Grand Tour episode and John was a big part of the appeal.
It seems the most honest one to me. There were no skits, no camera trickery--just the boys facing genuine hardship on a real adventure.
I've watched John scamper up hills at least 20 times
I think Ive genuinely watched it about 5/6 times so far lol. Its probably my favourite special out of both Top Gear and GT. It easily put Mongolia on my bucket list of places to visit. What a magnificent episode and country.
Totally agree. Best special across both shows.
Same here
I'm shocked that John wasn't in the top 2... the Mongolian special is our all-time favorite. Story, cinematography, the journey, everything was just great.
Ah but he didn’t get to drive it.
@@historytank5673He drove it . He just doesn't remember it
John gets my vote because he was hilarious to watch at times - especially bouncing up the hills.
John was a legend. No other vehicle could have gotten through what John went through, having to deal with those 3 goofballs.
John was the only car who kept the trio and theirs nonsense all through out mongolia, he had heart and soul, and hopped over our hearts.
As soon as he called it Martin, the competition was over! I hope Martin and Oliver are very happy together in his garage.
Hammond gotta be the only guy to say "if you've just joined us" towards the end of a youtube video. That's some classical film and radio training right there.
Old habits
"If you've just joined us"
A tv presenter to the core ❤
My favourite car you’ve driven on the Grand Tour has to be the Subaru from the Scandi Flick. Such a stunning car.
But John?
I'm still shocked at how Richard made it thru Mozambique. Physically it looked torturous
I gotta say that the STI had some sort of charm to it that makes it my favorite out of the bunch.
John is my choice by a mile! That's my favorite episode ever
Same
I don't think there's a human in existence that has more trouble trying to grasp a knockout tournament bracket than Hammond
Never heard the word "quarter finals"

Come on Richard

Then quarter finals
Then semi finals
Then the final
John won in the viewers hearts
wish Richard would start doing car reviews on this channel again, or just documenting stuff
Definitely!!!
Like a mother giving birth, you unpacked, assembled, drove and coerced it as it essentially delivered you from the middle of nowhere. Respect!
Now, Martin vs Oliver?
the Subaru is such an amazing car , I absolutely loved it from the special and it makes me really happy that Richard actually bought and still drives it
I think we all knew at the beginning it would be Martin. However, I agree with the comments that it should have been John.
The truck over John?! That’s sh**!
#justiceforjohn
3:05 Richard's Birmingham accent coming out for a moment there.
The Scarab was so awesome! I looked up its Sale in Florida when the Special came out, had new engines and new drives, a real dream machine.
Loved this, could you do the same with Jezza and Mays cars? Asking for a friend :)
