      @13thSystem 8 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      It's not scripted, they just goof around and act as they always do then they edit out the boring parts.

    • @tdc1991x

      +13thSystem A lot of it is scripted, and rightly so - made it much more entertaining

    • @13thSystem
      @13thSystem 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      tdc1991x Nope, the three just said what they wanted to and did what they want, it's why the new top gear sucks, because they're not as creative and funny as the old trio. The only thing scripted in top gear is their schedule.

      Theyre not kidding when they say Alfas have a certain 'magic'. The GTV for example just FELT so responsive and lively! The 156 v6 2.5 litre sounded AMAZING. Yes, the Maserati is obviously a much higher caliber car, but a car is a lot of things and Alfas give you this amazing feeling of being driver centric and, for their price, are amazing

    Statements like this shows the genius that was Top Gear. This is the kind of insight only car fanatics would understand and feel, brilliantly explained to the general public so they too can understand, but with a sly quip emphasizing how ridiculous the situation is. Because the world of cars IS often ridiculous and that's what makes it fun and special.

No noticeable rust except now for the exhaust system but then I visited seasides quite a lot too. Still as frisky as she used to be when new.

    • @darios9797
      @darios9797 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      i could of gotten lucky with mine, or you could of gotten unlucky with yours, also you need to realise most of the things you named are things that have to be replaced on a regular basis on pretty much any car, like the leather or the lambda sensor, for example i did have to replace the lambda sensor once (cheap fix), i have an aftermarket exhaust so i cant say anything about the rust, my gearbox works well, the only leather that looks a little worn is the one on the steering wheel ( cheap fix), badges look good, dashboard lights look good, water pump never gave me any problems.
      not every car is the same.
      oh and i did have problems with my sideskirts but only because the roads here are shit and i damaged the mounting points after hitting some potholes pretty hard.
      every car has its flaws, i am not saying it is perfect but it isnt unrealiable either.

    In the Spider, you only have to think of a corner to make it oversteer. It has a live rear axle, very little weight in the back, and therefore hardly any rear-wheel traction in corners.
    My favorite of the three, given they were in good condition, would be the 75

    As an Italian, I can say one thing, my father is a true “alfista” since the 60’s, Alfa Junior, GTV, Giulietta, Alfetta, 33 sw, 164.
    I’ve always been on his cara since I was a baby.. the engine of a 2.0 v6 busso modified will deeply remains in my soul.
    Everything they saying about problems is also true. I remember on garda lake’s highway in summer running at 200km/h in the 164 and the rearview mirror felt down because the glue that was keeping it up just did’n’t kept it. imagine this was a 65 millions Italians Lira at this moment.. probably comparable to a 45k € today. Anyway my friends still loves my father because when we were young they wanted to come in my father’s car because the émotions were strongers than they’re parents pussies Mercedes cdi

The problem with alfas is just that everyone expects them to be as good as bmws and Mercedes’ while treating them much worse. If you treat a bmw like you would treat an Alfa, it won’t even reach 100.000.

    Anyone can say what they want about Alfas, but typically the bashers know little to nothing about them. I've owned over thirty cars in my life, including four Porsches, but I only drive Alfas now. I have the most fun in them. And the person who said they were s*t in the '80s... really? The GTV6 and the 75/Milano were fantastic drivers cars, and I'd take a 164S or Q over the 5-series of that time. All my Alfas (I'm on my 5th) still ran and looked like new well past 100K miles. Their engines go forever if maintained. Whatever else, they are designed for fun, and they succeed.

    people critical of alfas always point out the flaws (over engineering, break down all the time, are ridiculousley expensive to fix, ridiculousley expensive to buy, etc.)

    never why
    just that they are

    • @catriona_drummond
      @catriona_drummond 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it is actually difficult to explain. I owned alfas for 20 years now and especially my 164 3.0 went under my skin. It's unbelievable. I had no idea hat I bought into. You think you buy a consumer good but actually enter a relationship.
      I'm sorry if I sound all mystical there but believe me, I never heard about the Alfa legend before and I still fell for it. Head over heels. I have been through bad times financially and whatnot, I've almost starved myself now and then just to keep the car. Because sneaking out on the evening, and just having a bit of a drive was always worth it.
      I don't know if new Alfas like the Giulia still have "it", somehow I doubt it. It's bloody weird in any case with those old Alfas. It's like they become people, freinds, you care for them...
      About the reliability: Normal cars you drive until they break then you take them to a garage and have them fixed. With an alfa you need to be more proactive. Look after them, bring them to the garage BEFORE they break. For example timing belts - they say 80,000 km changing interval. No, you go and have it changed at 60,000. Hear an unfamiliar sound? check it! As you become more familiar with teh car you feel when something is about to go wrong and if you proactively deal with it it usually can be fixed without too much cost.
      My 164 never let my down somewhere out on the road. Not once. in 10 years.
