hey John, huge respect for you for the awesome tips here and congrats on the 4K mate! I know many of our viewers they sometimes don't acknowledge the hours and days we put in making each video, mostly just view the video, sharing the video to mates but not liking or comments. Here's to 10K followers coming! 🥂
Thanks for this. I remember back to the late 90s when kings were first coming back to Syd Harb after the kingfish trap ban and near extinction in the harbour. The Bantry / Sugarloaf point area was one of the first places the big schools of rats appeared. It was always on the minute of dead low tide it would go nuts, as the bait was forced off the flats. Sad to hear they’ve moved on from here as it’s a safe place for small boats. I used to get them from my kayak on fly there. I also used to see them regularly follow in my bream lures up the back of Sailors Bay at Northbridge. You’d be standing on a marina pontoon doing a slow roll with a pink 5cm Nilsmaster and a pack of monsters would appear from the depths looking at the weird little lure, before slowly swimming away disinterested.
I enjoyed reading your comment! Much appreciated and thanks for sharing 🥹 I too enjoy fly fishing. Never really had the right style of boat for it. Now that I am getting back into kayak fishing, fly fishing is on the agenda. Never tried saltwater fly fishing either. Thanks for enjoying the content 👍
@@JYLFishing saltwater fly sometimes is the only way you can get kings to bite… for example when they are fixated on tiny bait in Spring. You can’t really match that with conventional gear. Anyway, normally a strong #8 weight rod, a reel with a decent drag, a slow sinking “intermediate” fly line, and a box of baitfish pattern flies will get you going. Tight lines!
Now you got me excited 😁 Always wanted to try but held back. Now more than enough reasons to have a crack. I had already tied a fair few minnow flies already.
Congrats on 4K subs mate, it's so nice to have someone giving advice to newbies and keeping everything open and accessible. Cheers for making the hobby more open and simple for everyone!
Thanks for the video. I normally fish Brisbane water but I've always wanted to drive my boat under the harbor bridge. Is Roseville a good place to launch to do this?
Thanks a lot! Yes, although I pass our great Sydney Harbour at least a couple of times a month.... I always enjoy the view. Roseville Davidson boat ramp is great for that for sure.
Thanks for the video mate great content! I’m familiar with a few of those spots myself. Hey when you arrive to a spot do you look for them in the sonar before committing or you just through a line hoping for them to show up? I’m struggling to find them… spend 3 hours catching bait then try a few of those spots and it’s already late and no action… any tips would be appreciated. Cheers 🙏
Thank you so much. I for one may sit on one of the known spots all day if I am having a lazy bait session. These spots offer plenty of bait and other species so there are plenty of catch to be had whilst you wait for kings to move in. When I am after more action, I roam around spot to spot. I often have other mates on their boats and we strategically split up fishing different areas to search for them. About the bait.... as I mentioned in the video, I sometimes don't bother catching bait at first light if that timing all lines up for feeding activity for kings. Good luck and please share your future success.
@@JYLFishing Thanks so much for your answer mate. Hey so if you sometimes don't catch bait do you use frozen squid or yakkas? I assumed that you must use fresh bait to catch Kingies some times I cant even catch the bait.. its so frustrating.. Using frozen bait would open new possibilities if that works. Thank you!
Subscribed, I can vouch for some of these spots as well. There are some obvious well known spots but you've pointed out some not so commonly known. Great vid
awesome info mate, at the end where u say if the tide looks good first thing in the morning, go straight to the spot, what tides do u mean? like a tide change? or a particular tide for a particular spot?
I have video on where to catch yakkas right here 😁 Where and how to catch Yellowtail. Yakka and Squid LIVE BAIT? Hot Spots REVEALED! th-cam.com/video/AabVN9KNjC8/w-d-xo.html
As Mulloway are more resident fish it may not be a great idea to reveal all the spots to everyone. I don't really have that many spots anyway. I do have a few Mulloway session videos where you could get an idea where it was from the video.
If you need a guide always up for a trip ... many years spent on kings as a pro boater not much I don't know out of syd .... ps don't go to nz you'll come back never looking at another syd king or snapper 😅

Thanks a lot! Always good helping out and seeing people out there!
First timer here, this video is exactly what I was after. I'm not fishing for kingies but the run down of the website was very handy. Thanks
Glad you found it useful!
Be sure to give the oil wharf in Botany Bay a go also

Thank you for taking the time for making this informative and helpful video. Nige from Sydney
My pleasure! I am waiting for the day you change your username to “happyfisherman” 💪👍
@JYLFishing maybe I will should I ever get to go fishing again. In the meantime, I fish vicariously through watching others on TH-cam.
By all means.... let me know what sort of fishing session you would like me to produce.
do u have any recommendations on a rod, reel and leader and braid for catching kinfish
On a boat, ideally 4000 - 8000 reel with 10lb - 50lb. I like to fish light and I normally go with 2500 - 5000 reel on 8lb - 20lb braid.

Great catch finding your channel
😂 I will do my best so the channel is your PB catch 👍
What location do you generally use to gauge the forecast when going out to the peak? Great content by the way really loving it!
Fantastic to hear! For FAD and Peak, I would check Kurnell.
very informative clip. Thanks a lot.
You are welcome! Glad it was informative!
Can you do one for mulloway
