In my opinion, Frank Welker voicing Megatron in Transformers: Prime is his best performance as the character by far. He retains most of what made the Decepticon leader from the G1 series so cool, while also sounding more menacing, calculating, and ruthless. In other words, he literally refined and polished his voice for the villain.
Yup. He also sounds more sinister the way he speaks softly with a threatening hiss and only raises his voice occasionally. I wonder if they would have gone with Frank Welker for Megatron in the Michael Bay films had he used this voice from the start.
I think it’s because he made Megatron sound older and more experienced than his G1 counterpart. He sounds like he’s really seen some sh*t over the years and doesn’t want to put up with upstart idiots like Starscream
You know what? I think kaye's megatron vs corey's megatron vs welker's megatron come to a tie. They all added a different and unique touch on megatron. They all sounded differently and were great in their own way. There megatron's also differed in personalities somewhat. So we cant really say who's the best.

Well since reactivate is on the horizon and from the looks of things a few voice actors may make a return so I think it’s a pretty safe bet burton may return to voice shockwave
Corey burton has the deceptive smooth talking slyness of someone who’s definitely biding his time and like a snake waiting to strike when all the cards are in his favor, Frank has the aggressive anger of someone who above all else will triumph over his lifelong enemy everything else be damned as long as he wins over him
Frank Welker captures the fury and sadistic nature of Megatron. When I hear him, I think of Megatron the warrior, Megatron the tyrant. Corey Burton on the other hand captures the intelligent and deceitful nature of Megatron. A pure evil villian who commits acts not out of raw emotion l, but out of calculated cruelty. When I hear him, I think of Megatron the deceiver, Megatron the Mastermind.
Funny how inside their own series, despite being the more warrior like, Megatron Prime is shown weaker to more characters in single combat than Megatron Animated ( in the sense that Megatron Prime has a handful of characters that can beat him one on one, Optimus, Unicron, Predaking, Skywing, while Animated Megs has only Omega Supreme, and Optimus )

Burton does a pretty good Megatron and TFA Megatron is definitely one of my favourites, but I honestly think he does a better job voicing Shockwave. (No-one can voice Shockwave better than him) Frank's voice though, not only is it the Megatron voice I grew up with, but everytime that guy spoke in TFP, he always had an effect on the atmosphere, he always felt like a foreboding presence and every time he spoke, whatever the mood was beforehand was suddenly extremely dark and menacing.

From what I understand, ever since G1, Frank's natural voice is pitched down in post production, which might be the same case here. It works pretty naturally here. Burton's just sounds like he's doing the same accent he does for Count Dooku if you listen to the inflection a bit. I think both work in their own right, and you really can't compare them. Animated Megs is slower, less aggressive, more cunning. Prime Megatron is more traditional, an authoritarian.
Welker’s performance in Prime will always be my favorite portrayal from him. Instead of the constant whisper screaming of the other Megatrons he’s played, he’s more sinister sounding and sounds a LOT more natural here. Though Corey Burton is the definitive Megatron for a lot of people, and for good reason. I personally side with Jason Marnocha, specifically from Combiner Wars and WFC: Siege, but I won’t deny Burton’s talent

I love TFP far more than Animated and it ain't even a question. That being said, as good as Welker is, Burton is far more sinister and maybe even scarier as Megatron.
I think they both work very well for their own types of Megatrons. Animated's Megatron is very chill, eerily sinister, and unnerving, and I personally believe Burton's voicing perfectly matches his character. Prime's Megatron is less scary, but still intimidating, and a very determined and serious warrior type. Welker's voicing definitely matches Prime's Megatron far better than Burton's could, and Burton's voicing matches Animated's Megatron far better than Welker's could. Both are very good actors for each of their Megatron's.
As much as I love Frank, TFA Megatron was so satisfying to listen to. He was so smooth and cold, like I could probably listen to him for hours. He lacked the aggression TFP Megatron has. While Frank also had his moments of sly cunning, he was very quick to jump to angry bouts of yelling. I feel like he spent a large amount of time growling and yelling, unlike TFA Megatron. I don't know, I like them both a lot in their own ways and I couldn't really choose a favorite. I think they both fit their roles perfectly, though. I definitely wouldn't want the voices switched around.
Seriously tho, Burton's Megatron sounds like a leader that you'll follow because you are confident of his charisma. Welker's Megatron is like a leader you'll follow because you fear him.
Now this is the toughest decisions because both actors did the fantastic job as the voice of Megatron. Both of them gave Megatron a great personality and threating voice. I love both of them to be honest. I can't choose because both of them have great voices. Especially Animated Megatron, he is more of a mysterious alien in the first season until the season 1 finale where he finally becomes a very shakesperean, freedom fighter, and maintains his position of power. He shows that he means business. Prime Megatron is the better version of his G1 version except much stronger, violent, powerful, more badass, and a force to be reckon. It's a shame I can't get my hands on Leader Class Animated Megatron and APC Toys Dark Master (Third Party Version of Transformers Prime Megatron) because both of those figures looks fantastic but also very expensive to buy it.
We all love Corey Burton's Megatron. Cold, Calculating, Menacing, its the kind of voice you have an urge to obey and wonder what he wants u to do. Frank Welker's Megatron on the other hand, ever since he began the voice role since 1984, his different takes on different versions of Megatron sound so similar but sound different enough to tell em apart. He definitely peaked when he voiced PRIME Megatron. Prime Megatron had that COMMANDING and THREATENING voice, the kind of voice that forces u to obey it's every command or you'll die a quick and painful death. If I had to pick who my favorite Megatron VA is, it's OBVIOUSLY the OG Frank Welker.
@@MireMiraMe Im pretty sure TFP Megs gets defeated way more times than Animated Megs did, which was just 5 times over 42 episodes. Have to rewatch Prime to be sure but I sincerely remember TFP being overpowered or beaten plenty of times and not just by Optimus.

Corey Burton's Megatron sounds an awful lot like Mr. Freeze from _Batman: The Animated Series._ Cold, calculating, largely "beyond emotions"... Frank Welker never fails to give you the fear instilled by a mighty warrior.

As great as Welker is, I prefer Burton’s take. Welker’s great at the snarling monster clawing at his cage to get out. But Burton plays it like a monster who’s biding his time and seemingly unconcerned about his cage. That makes the moments where he does snap and let loose all the more terrifying, and creates suspense because you don’t know when those moments will happen.
I say both. frank welker has that g1 and intense fear each time. Corey burton is more of a gladiator and a sophisticated king but with some spice in him
Theres not as much growling with franks prime version as there is with G1 and live action. He feels more calculating and like the best version of megatron.
Burton does so well with his version, but Welker is purely Megatron. He can get the cold sadistic Megatron that Burton did perfectly, aswell as the brutal tyrant-ness
Unpopular opinion here but *out of the 2* I prefer Courey Burtons performance. Frank Welker brings a lot of energy to the character, which was the reason why he got so iconic in the first place. This energy perfectly played off with his character interactions in the first Generation and I loved it whenever Megs was on screen. Whoever I think he does'nt really get to show his talent as much in Prime as he could, because of the shows more serialized approach. He works wonders in the first few episodes because his aggressive tone sets him up as a serious foe that our protagonists will struggle to overcome. Like a gun that can and will fire on all cylinders once it gets started. Where he starts to falter is in the long run, after his first appearance he started to loose that effect on me. When he was put at a disadvantage, this aggressive tone made him seem more uncontrolled than anything. A gun that fires on all cylinders needs to be able to aim. The more he appeared and did nothing the more the impression of power his voice once held started to waver. This is where Corey Burtons performance differs. While Frank Welker holds more power, Corey Burtons gives the impression of something that had in the long run a stronger effect on me, control. His voice did not give off as much power but had it under control, and could lash out with it when needed. This gun needed to load, but a gun that loads has time to aim. And a gun that aims, hits. Within Corey Burtons performance was feelable power that was held back, that only came to prominence whenever he needed to use it. It was that calmness before the storm that intruiged me. When he let out what he held he did so with success. When he boasted he meant it. Which made his performance when he gave up control all the more satisfying. His performance expressed defeat, the plans were derailed, there was no more way to victory. When Megatron was lying on the floor in defeat, and Corey reverted back to calmness there was no sense of control or power. He was defeated and his performance made you feel it. I know this was a long comment and thank you for reading this far. I need you to understand that arguing from a specific point is very hard and takes a lot of explaination because I needed to explain why I prefered one 10/10 actor over another 10/10 actor, and im sure a lot of my points got lost in my rambling.
It might just be me being so familiar with both Animated and Prime Megs, but Corey Burton has a nice smoothness to his Megs voice that definitely fits a more conniving, master manipulator Megatron who is more likely to get others to due what he wants but leave the glory for himself. While Frank Welker has a bit more of a Brutish, harsh feel to how he voices Megatron, fitting close with someone who might plan but is equally likely to just start punching and blasting at the first sign of a threat. Both are great so it's simply a question of who fits the version of the character in any continuity.
Frank's Megatron has always been my favourite. Not only is he great on his own, but he's also the only one that has such fantastic chemistry with Peter Cullen when he's playing Optimus Prime. The best acting performances stem from the actors' chemistry and these two have it in spades. The live action movies always felt like they were missing something when Peter didn't have Frank around. They elevate each other and you can just hear the sparks from that recording booth when they get to play off each other in G1 and Prime. TFA Megatron is really darn good, I'll give you that. Probably my 2nd or 3rd by competing with the voice actor for Armada/Beast Wars Megatron, who had fantastic chemistry with his Optimus as well.
I mean no disrespect to Frank Welker, but I feel like his G1 Megatron voice was too raspy for my liking, but his TFP voice was certainly an improvement, giving Megatron a more growly voice. But Corey Burton’s TFA Megatron just sends shivers up my spine! And he’s my favorite Megatron voice actor.
Burton was a good choice, he’s not better or worse than Welker, but he’s unique and he almost gives a cold and calculated demeanour to Megatron, almost like a serial killer or a criminal mastermind.
Regardless of who you think was better, we can all agree they both did an excellent job. Both are seasoned VAs who have been in the industry for a LONG time, and their experience shows.
One thijg i did want to see from TFP Megatron was to have all his purple accents glow purple while his eyes stay red without the influence of Dark Energon.
Honestly G1 frank walker has been my favorite. I swear I’m not just a geewunner but it’s just so unique and iconic. TFP when he yells and scolds starscream is good too.
I love them both! But I have to say, if it was Shattered Glass, Prime Megatron's voice would be way too rough to fit a "gentle giant" character. Whereas I feel like Animated Megatron would still be able to pull that off. And we could've even seen it ourselves, had season 4 not been cancelled...
I would give to see a multiverse series revolving around a new Megatron, where he meets other versions of himself from other universes acted by their original voice talent. We have quite a list of bangers.
I respect both actors simply due to their amazing range, and both Megatrons in this instance are amazing acts unto themselves. However I give this one to Animated Megs just because he's equally as suave and cunning as he is imposing.
For animated shows I remember Burton’s Megatron to be chilling with how he talked (I also prefer his cybertronian version of himself to his helicopter version), although the way they made Franks voice evil and have such presence is especially creepy and badass sounding when he breaks the 4th wall a little bit and sends Knockout’s spine tingling lol. For these animated series’s aside, I still feel for some reason that Hugo Weaving’s Megatron particularly more in the 07 movie still just gives me more chills to this day with how robotic and evil he sounds. Also kinda wish they would’ve kept that robotic sounding aesthetic at least a little bit for all the Bay movies instead of scrapping it in ROTF🤔😒. Anyways ya small rant and such over lol

Corey told me that his Megatron was inspired by John Hurt. I love his take in Animated, I thought it was a truly great show. Obviously I also love Frank's take. These guys are gifted maniacs and I mean that in the best possible way. We are blessed to live in the same period as these guys - thank you for many, many, MANY hours of fun!
TFA Megs. Corey Burton, in my opinion, is how Megatron should be. Calculating, menacing, manipulative with a little bit of warlord in the mix while maintaining the stoic expression TFA Megs has should do just fine.

Hugo weller does very well as Megatron in transformers (2007)
To be honest, Kaye’s Megatron voice comes across as… I don’t know if flamboyant is the right word for it, but it’s not that menacing, that’s for sure

Especially Animated Megatron, he is more of a mysterious alien in the first season until the season 1 finale where he finally becomes a very shakesperean, freedom fighter, and maintains his position of power. He shows that he means business. Prime Megatron is the better version of his G1 version except much stronger, violent, powerful, more badass, and a force to be reckon. It's a shame I can't get my hands on Leader Class Animated Megatron and APC Toys Dark Master (Third Party Version of Transformers Prime Megatron) because both of those figures looks fantastic but also very expensive to buy it.

We all love Corey Burton's Megatron. Cold, Calculating, Menacing, its the kind of voice you have an urge to obey and wonder what he wants u to do.
Frank Welker's Megatron on the other hand, ever since he began the voice role since 1984, his different takes on different versions of Megatron sound so similar but sound different enough to tell em apart. He definitely peaked when he voiced PRIME Megatron. Prime Megatron had that COMMANDING and THREATENING voice, the kind of voice that forces u to obey it's every command or you'll die a quick and painful death.
If I had to pick who my favorite Megatron VA is, it's OBVIOUSLY the OG Frank Welker.
They both do a fantastic job. But I love Corey Burton’s bone chilling, and calculating voice.
I like Frank's take, but there's something so menacing about Corey Burton's calculated take on Megatron.
I like the way the Animated version was so calculated in his approach.
@@MireMiraMe Im pretty sure TFP Megs gets defeated way more times than Animated Megs did, which was just 5 times over 42 episodes. Have to rewatch Prime to be sure but I sincerely remember TFP being overpowered or beaten plenty of times and not just by Optimus.
Corey Burton, Frank Welker and David Kaye are probably my top 3 all time favorite Megatron voice actors.

Both Corey Burton and Frank Welker are great at voicing Megatron and they sure make the character of their own, Corey Burton's Animated Megatron is more of a chilling schemer while Frank Welker's Prime Megatron is a fierce tyrant. Both are intimidating in their own way.
If Animated continued I would have liked Frank as Unicron

If frank welker voiced megatron in war for cybertron trilogy, I would’ve love him to use the transformers prime megatron voice as he sounds more menacing for modern day and it’s the type of voice frank welker should’ve used in age of extinction and the last knight for megatron.

As great as Welker is, I prefer Burton’s take. Welker’s great at the snarling monster clawing at his cage to get out. But Burton plays it like a monster who’s biding his time and seemingly unconcerned about his cage. That makes the moments where he does snap and let loose all the more terrifying, and creates suspense because you don’t know when those moments will happen.
I say both. frank welker has that g1 and intense fear each time. Corey burton is more of a gladiator and a sophisticated king but with some spice in him
Corey Burton is also the voice of G1 Shockwave. Imagine if Animated Shockwave was voiced by Frank Welker!
Theres not as much growling with franks prime version as there is with G1 and live action. He feels more calculating and like the best version of megatron.
He also sounds more calm, which is what I don't usually expect from Megatron.

Unpopular opinion here but *out of the 2* I prefer Courey Burtons performance.
Frank Welker brings a lot of energy to the character, which was the reason why he got so iconic in the first place.
This energy perfectly played off with his character interactions in the first Generation and I loved it whenever Megs was on screen.
Whoever I think he does'nt really get to show his talent as much in Prime as he could, because of the shows more serialized approach.
He works wonders in the first few episodes because his aggressive tone sets him up as a serious foe that our protagonists will struggle to overcome.
Like a gun that can and will fire on all cylinders once it gets started.
Where he starts to falter is in the long run, after his first appearance he started to loose that effect on me.
When he was put at a disadvantage, this aggressive tone made him seem more uncontrolled than anything.
A gun that fires on all cylinders needs to be able to aim.
The more he appeared and did nothing the more the impression of power his voice once held started to waver.
This is where Corey Burtons performance differs.
While Frank Welker holds more power, Corey Burtons gives the impression of something that had in the long run a stronger effect on me, control.
His voice did not give off as much power but had it under control, and could lash out with it when needed.
This gun needed to load, but a gun that loads has time to aim.
And a gun that aims, hits.
Within Corey Burtons performance was feelable power that was held back, that only came to prominence whenever he needed to use it.
It was that calmness before the storm that intruiged me.
When he let out what he held he did so with success.
When he boasted he meant it.
Which made his performance when he gave up control all the more satisfying.
His performance expressed defeat, the plans were derailed, there was no more way to victory.
When Megatron was lying on the floor in defeat, and Corey reverted back to calmness there was no sense of control or power.
He was defeated and his performance made you feel it.

I need you to understand that arguing from a specific point is very hard and takes a lot of explaination because I needed to explain why I prefered one 10/10 actor over another 10/10 actor, and im sure a lot of my points got lost in my rambling.

in a way is more imposing and threatening someone calm and hostile than someone aggresive and hostile.
It might just be me being so familiar with both Animated and Prime Megs, but Corey Burton has a nice smoothness to his Megs voice that definitely fits a more conniving, master manipulator Megatron who is more likely to get others to due what he wants but leave the glory for himself. While Frank Welker has a bit more of a Brutish, harsh feel to how he voices Megatron, fitting close with someone who might plan but is equally likely to just start punching and blasting at the first sign of a threat.
Both are great so it's simply a question of who fits the version of the character in any continuity.

Somehow, there are 2 voice actors that VA'd Megatron so well. Corey Burton and whoever voiced Beyverse Negatron up to DoTM.

Frank's Megatron has always been my favourite. Not only is he great on his own, but he's also the only one that has such fantastic chemistry with Peter Cullen when he's playing Optimus Prime. The best acting performances stem from the actors' chemistry and these two have it in spades. The live action movies always felt like they were missing something when Peter didn't have Frank around. They elevate each other and you can just hear the sparks from that recording booth when they get to play off each other in G1 and Prime.
TFA Megatron is really darn good, I'll give you that. Probably my 2nd or 3rd by competing with the voice actor for Armada/Beast Wars Megatron, who had fantastic chemistry with his Optimus as well.
I mean no disrespect to Frank Welker, but I feel like his G1 Megatron voice was too raspy for my liking, but his TFP voice was certainly an improvement, giving Megatron a more growly voice.
But Corey Burton’s TFA Megatron just sends shivers up my spine! And he’s my favorite Megatron voice actor.
Burton was a good choice, he’s not better or worse than Welker, but he’s unique and he almost gives a cold and calculated demeanour to Megatron, almost like a serial killer or a criminal mastermind.
Regardless of who you think was better, we can all agree they both did an excellent job. Both are seasoned VAs who have been in the industry for a LONG time, and their experience shows.
Burton and Welker are the best voices for the character. Hugo Weaving is a close third, but his is very much Monster Megatron.

I love them both! But I have to say, if it was Shattered Glass, Prime Megatron's voice would be way too rough to fit a "gentle giant" character. Whereas I feel like Animated Megatron would still be able to pull that off. And we could've even seen it ourselves, had season 4 not been cancelled...

Such a shame Corey has yet to come back as Megatron in some capacity ever since Animated, he does an incredible voice for the character.
I respect both actors simply due to their amazing range, and both Megatrons in this instance are amazing acts unto themselves. However I give this one to Animated Megs just because he's equally as suave and cunning as he is imposing.

For animated shows I remember Burton’s Megatron to be chilling with how he talked (I also prefer his cybertronian version of himself to his helicopter version), although the way they made Franks voice evil and have such presence is especially creepy and badass sounding when he breaks the 4th wall a little bit and sends Knockout’s spine tingling lol. For these animated series’s aside, I still feel for some reason that Hugo Weaving’s Megatron particularly more in the 07 movie still just gives me more chills to this day with how robotic and evil he sounds. Also kinda wish they would’ve kept that robotic sounding aesthetic at least a little bit for all the Bay movies instead of scrapping it in ROTF🤔😒. Anyways ya small rant and such over lol

Corey told me that his Megatron was inspired by John Hurt. I love his take in Animated, I thought it was a truly great show. Obviously I also love Frank's take. These guys are gifted maniacs and I mean that in the best possible way. We are blessed to live in the same period as these guys - thank you for many, many, MANY hours of fun!

TFA Megs. Corey Burton, in my opinion, is how Megatron should be. Calculating, menacing, manipulative with a little bit of warlord in the mix while maintaining the stoic expression TFA Megs has should do just fine.
