I always enjoyed Weavings voice, it's also nice to have Frank Welker back although I would have loved his voices to have been more like his original G1, maybe we will hear that voice again in the future with Transformers ROTB. 😉
Hugo Weaving’s performance portrays Megatron as this brutal, barbaric, and yet terrifying warrior. Frank Wellker’s performance is more gentle in tone and more intimidating, but also manipulative, like some evil warlord. Frank Welker is easily the classic, but Hugo Weaving can be a worthy replacement.
Too bad Hugo's on record saying he doesn't like/care (I forget which) about the character or franchise. People usually do their best work when they're invested.

I love the more monster like feel and aggression of hugo weaving and frankwelker is definitely more iconic since he was the first megatron, over all i like them both but i definitely gotta lean towards hugo weaving more since his voice fits this version of megatron of the bay verse
Prime Megatron is my second best interpretation of Megatron. He was savage, conniving, firm, commanding and totall believeable while he was at it. Only Beast Wars Megatron sits higher to me.
Some may not notice, but Frank Welker actually changes the megatron voice to sound more like the Hugo weaving megatron and doesn’t just use his transformers prime voice

My only disappointment is that Hugo Weaving didn't enjoy voicing Megatron, phoned in his lines and only did a good job inadvertedly. Whereas Frank Welker thoroughly enjoys playing Galvatron/Megatron, and you can tell because he does different variations, growls and low tones, where Hugo just YELLED A LOT
He also didn’t enjoy playing red skull because of the make up process, I don’t know he’s super talented and idk much of his roles but when I do he’s doing a good job but always hearing he hated it or disliked it, must be a tough guy to work with
Well, whatever the reason Hugo Weaving has to say, I can only respect his opinion and statement about his experience during his performance in every movie he participate. The only thing I didn't understand is that how can someone didn't enjoy the voice of the character that every fan of the movie or series love so much that they would hear it over and over again.

Honestly this is like a rare instance where both voice actors work so well for the character that they're both at the same level; I might even say interchangeable. They both fit Megatron perfectly in the live action movies.
I feel like the voice matches the change in Megatron’s character perfectly. Megatron becomes more calm, calculating, and cunning in the last film, and Frank Welker perfectly captures that tone. Megatron was still a barbaric brutal gladiator sort in the first three films, and evidently, Hugo Weaving’s louder and more aggressive tone was more fitting there.
Frank's MGT voice sounds really menacing and evil. Hugo's MGT voice on the other hand sounds monstrous and aggressive. Can't really decide which Megatron voice is better among them because both are really awesome.
I think both work well. Hugo for Megatron's OG voice, and Frank (despite being the OG voice on G1) could be said to have had his voice changed slightly from being reborn into the Galvatron body, and still kept the new voice even when reformatted into his Knight body by Quintessa. They both sound pretty similar anyway, so not too big of a deal to worry about. I think Frank might have tried his best to sound like Hugo, he's definitely got a good voice range, if true then that shows the dedication of Hugo, instead of just doing a completely different voice he tried to keep it as close to the OG as possible.

In my headcanon (where we ignore the recast), Megatron's voice began to change as the revivals he received shaved some years of his life and made him older a lot sooner than expected. It was not as noticeable of a change in the original trilogy because he was frozen for so long and would be revived in ROTF while he would stick around longer until his death in DOTM where his revival in AOE means he gets another few years of his life removed thanks to his revival accelerating his Cybertronian age.
It's funny how in TLK we can see Megatron during various historical events from time when supposed to be frozen. Yet they didn't let Travis Knight to include Megatron during War for Cybetron scene cause "continuity".

Honestly, if you consider the Prequel motion comic at least partially canon and that scene on Cybertron flashback with Frank Welker as Megatron, the explanation fits seemlessly.
Weaving's voice fits the brutal nature of Megatron far better. Silly to say Welker's is on a "whole other level". At the least they are on equal level. Saying otherwise makes you sound like an idiot.
Hugo honestly was my favorite; he made the character almost like a horror villain (ironically). Frank Welker is amazing, because he is the original voice actor… however, Hugo just made the character scary. Btw, how do you upload the clips so clearly (4K).
They're both good actors. The difference between them doesn't even seem that out of place, because of how much Megatron/Galvatron has changed over the years, but they both served the character well, I think.
Frank Weller sounds like a cunning manipulator, but his voice is amazing too. But Hugo Weaving's voice is just pure terrifying. His voice sounds like a brutal, merciless and feared dictator. Ik Frank Weller is iconic but I'm little bit biased since a grew up with the movies but Hugo Weaving is just a lot scarier.
Hugo Weaving's Megatron reminds me a lot of Orson Welles' Unicron, giving it your all yet somehow still phoning it in. You can clearly hear he wasn't having fun, but it's badass anyway.
Both are awesome in their own ways. I love Hugo's voice because it fits bayverse (will include galvatron and new megatron but he left) Megatron because the design is 'monster-like' and very different from the G1 design. Frank's voice on Galvatron and New Megatron doesn't feel out of place because it doesn't resembles Old Megatron (07, RoTF, DoTM) design.
Even with him being the main villain in that one, tbh of all the films he was probably at some of his most intimidating in the first. You felt his presence, he was unrelenting in this one, he beat the ever loving shit out of prime effortlessly and was only stopped by the All spark (sure he may’ve been struck with a few missiles and tripped by Prime, but I think he would still have been able to go at it)
There were others like one stars cream in the comics that saved Megatron just to be brutally tortured by him in the end ti the point he asked for death twice, another loyal stars cream was robots in disguise starscream

@@flybeep1661 Hugo does have a menacing tone but Frank’s sounds just a bit older, as if he’s a bit weary of the war, and that really sells it for me. He also sounds a bit more dignified imo which really fits the knight aesthetic. You gotta love how it takes inspiration from Hugo’s but also mixes it with G1 Megs. You can hear more of it in Transformers Prime’s Megatron.
The fact that they brought back Peter Cullen and Frank Welker made this whole franchise for me. I went and saw the 2007 Transformers movie almost solely because of that.

I prefer Hugo Weaving. Frank Welker reminds me too much of the G1 comic-book villain Megatron. The first three movies however, set the tone for what Galvatron would sound like, and I think the difference in voices between Hugo and frank illustrates the changes in the character between Megatron and Galvatron. I'm just glad he didn't sound like he did in G1, because it'd be impossible to take him seriously.

Fun Fact: Frank did actually audition for Megatron in the first movie but Michael Bay Deemed his voice too light feeling it would be disrespectful to ask him to change it, so bay chose Hugo Weaving instead. although Frank did voice some of the decepticons in ROTF and DOTM like soundwave shockwave and barricade and more.
I grew up with Welker's portrayal of Megaton since G1 and I'm 27 currently but I definitely enjoyed Weaving's portrayal of Megaton as it's always amazing to see how actors put their own spin on the voice of characters, it would be nice if we got to hear how Weaving would portray Megaton and Galvatron in Transformers 4 and 5 if he decided to stay on if he was given a better script that he would say that it was the most fun he had
Though Weaving is unintentionally brilliant, gotta give it to Welker. His voice is more iconic and synonymous with the character. Again, Weaving did a good job, but I also can’t get over the fact that he hates most the movies he’s in.
I loved both Hugo Weaving and Frank Welker as Lord Megatron. Plus I grew up with the live action movies and Transformers Prime series which is from 2000s until 2014 which is my best years of my life and both of these voices are nostalgic and made me happy in an otherwise sad and depressing year for me right now which is 2020 and 2021. So having some Transformers content really made me happy and forget some of my problems right now.
I think they both did great job TBH, Hugo Weaving was doing great, judging from how terrible scripts were in original trilogy. Also, I'm maybe a fan of both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, but I also think that there is room for new voice actors for Optimus Prime and Megatron. On the other hand, it's hard not to like original VA take on modern Megatron, Frank Welker's voice i much less "generic" . But I think that his voice in Prime was just better - it sounds more natural. I would also love to see David Kaye take on movieverse Megatron.
Weaving did a superb job. He made Megatron feel like and unstoppable force of nature that was feared by the deceptions. Welkers performance somehow added intelligence to the character. He had plans, goals and respect from the deceptions.
Steve Blum voicing Starscream was also underrated you could definitely see he tried bringing a more modernized version of Christopher Charles Collins's G1 Starscream to the big screen.

Without doubt, Frank Walker is King as Megatron became a household name thanks to his distinct voice and villainy! Hugo( still being a great actor) was only chosen for Bays preferences.

Another things is that it took me years to realize that “Holy shit Frank is back for Megatron.” Shoot Micheal Bay was wrong Frank can be Megatron for live action.
Comparing Frank and Hugo's Megatron voices/performances is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are terrific in their own right. Frank is the OG classic Megatron and is so iconic, but I also like the demonic gutteral growl Hugo brought to his version, which fit with the more devilish design Megatron had in the live-action films. I've got nostalgia for Frank but also enjoy how genuinely terrifying and threatening Hugo is in the role. Both are interchangably excellent in the role.
Imagine Hugo’s Megatron voice sounding like the 07 movie but for the entire trilogy and somehow combing the same lines said by Welker in his TF Prime Megatron voice but with the same audio editing like 07 Megs. Then combing both Megatron voice lines to see how it would sound together. Idk y but I feel like it would sound cool and interesting af.
Tbh, if Weaving actually had some knowledge of Transformers, he probably would of enjoyed playing Megatron a lot more. I think both are equally as good. Weaving gives off Megatron’s ruthlessness and lust for power while Welker gives off Megatron’s cold and deceptive personality
I like to think the reason he sounds different in TLK is because of (what I assume to be the cause of not being Galvatron) him being reformatted and becoming less like an alien monster and closer to insanity

With all respect to Hugo Weaving, it is Frank Welker all the way. Frank Welker gives Megatron the manipulative, duplicitous, and lawful-evil overtones that he had in the G1 comics. Hugo Weaving seems more suited to Galvatron - the crazy-wheeling, chaotic-evil Two-Face of the Transformers universe. The subtle, subversive evil versus the blatant, Russian-roulette evil.
Accurate. There's far more nuance to Welker, who obviously understood the character better. Hugo did a far better job than I expected when I first heard he got cast, though, which was a pleasant surprise.
Sometimes i like to do Hugo's lines with franks voice (i can do both of their voices pretty damn well) and franks lines In Hugo's voice, and most of the lines work with both voices

Specifically in Transformers Prime, the Transformers: The Last Knight, and surprisingly in Transformers: The Ride. Although my dream was to hear David Kaye once again voice Megatron in these films at least once.

It's funny how in TLK we can see Megatron during various historical events from time when supposed to be frozen. Yet they didn't let Travis Knight to include Megatron during War for Cybetron scene cause "continuity".
That, or he had a man made voice box and that slightly changed his voice.

Honestly, if you consider the Prequel motion comic at least partially canon and that scene on Cybertron flashback with Frank Welker as Megatron, the explanation fits seemlessly.
Hugo works for the monstrous megatron. But Frank is on a whole other level. He gives actual character and has the voice of a leader.
Weaving's voice fits the brutal nature of Megatron far better. Silly to say Welker's is on a "whole other level". At the least they are on equal level. Saying otherwise makes you sound like an idiot.
Hugo honestly was my favorite; he made the character almost like a horror villain (ironically). Frank Welker is amazing, because he is the original voice actor… however, Hugo just made the character scary. Btw, how do you upload the clips so clearly (4K).
They're both good actors. The difference between them doesn't even seem that out of place, because of how much Megatron/Galvatron has changed over the years, but they both served the character well, I think.

Frank Weller sounds like a cunning manipulator, but his voice is amazing too. But Hugo Weaving's voice is just pure terrifying. His voice sounds like a brutal, merciless and feared dictator. Ik Frank Weller is iconic but I'm little bit biased since a grew up with the movies but Hugo Weaving is just a lot scarier.
Weaving definitely has an sense of aggression and power, while Welker sounds patient and calm, like he’s always in control.
I honestly like both.
Its Always Good to Hear the Voice actors That made Their Characters Memorable
Hugo Weaving's Megatron reminds me a lot of Orson Welles' Unicron, giving it your all yet somehow still phoning it in. You can clearly hear he wasn't having fun, but it's badass anyway.
Both are awesome in their own ways. I love Hugo's voice because it fits bayverse (will include galvatron and new megatron but he left) Megatron because the design is 'monster-like' and very different from the G1 design. Frank's voice on Galvatron and New Megatron doesn't feel out of place because it doesn't resembles Old Megatron (07, RoTF, DoTM) design.

Even with him being the main villain in that one, tbh of all the films he was probably at some of his most intimidating in the first. You felt his presence, he was unrelenting in this one, he beat the ever loving shit out of prime effortlessly and was only stopped by the All spark (sure he may’ve been struck with a few missiles and tripped by Prime, but I think he would still have been able to go at it)
I know everyone picks a side, but they’re both tied for me, they’re both great and I honestly can’t decide which one I like more.

There were others like one stars cream in the comics that saved Megatron just to be brutally tortured by him in the end ti the point he asked for death twice, another loyal stars cream was robots in disguise starscream

I think Frank Welker's best Megatron impression was from Transformers: Prime. You can hear it a little bit when he says "Now you will watch Earth die." in TLK.

@@flybeep1661 Hugo does have a menacing tone but Frank’s sounds just a bit older, as if he’s a bit weary of the war, and that really sells it for me. He also sounds a bit more dignified imo which really fits the knight aesthetic.
You gotta love how it takes inspiration from Hugo’s but also mixes it with G1 Megs. You can hear more of it in Transformers Prime’s Megatron.

I prefer Hugo Weaving. Frank Welker reminds me too much of the G1 comic-book villain Megatron. The first three movies however, set the tone for what Galvatron would sound like, and I think the difference in voices between Hugo and frank illustrates the changes in the character between Megatron and Galvatron. I'm just glad he didn't sound like he did in G1, because it'd be impossible to take him seriously.

Fun Fact: Frank did actually audition for Megatron in the first movie but Michael Bay Deemed his voice too light feeling it would be disrespectful to ask him to change it, so bay chose Hugo Weaving instead. although Frank did voice some of the decepticons in ROTF and DOTM like soundwave shockwave and barricade and more.

I grew up with Welker's portrayal of Megaton since G1 and I'm 27 currently but I definitely enjoyed Weaving's portrayal of Megaton as it's always amazing to see how actors put their own spin on the voice of characters, it would be nice if we got to hear how Weaving would portray Megaton and Galvatron in Transformers 4 and 5 if he decided to stay on if he was given a better script that he would say that it was the most fun he had
Though Weaving is unintentionally brilliant, gotta give it to Welker. His voice is more iconic and synonymous with the character. Again, Weaving did a good job, but I also can’t get over the fact that he hates most the movies he’s in.

I loved both Hugo Weaving and Frank Welker as Lord Megatron. Plus I grew up with the live action movies and Transformers Prime series which is from 2000s until 2014 which is my best years of my life and both of these voices are nostalgic and made me happy in an otherwise sad and depressing year for me right now which is 2020 and 2021. So having some Transformers content really made me happy and forget some of my problems right now.
I think they both did great job TBH, Hugo Weaving was doing great, judging from how terrible scripts were in original trilogy. Also, I'm maybe a fan of both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, but I also think that there is room for new voice actors for Optimus Prime and Megatron.
On the other hand, it's hard not to like original VA take on modern Megatron, Frank Welker's voice i much less "generic" . But I think that his voice in Prime was just better - it sounds more natural.
I would also love to see David Kaye take on movieverse Megatron.
The thing is tho every time they replace Cullen, it just isn't the same and just sounds bad like in the siege show. Imo
Weaving did a superb job. He made Megatron feel like and unstoppable force of nature that was feared by the deceptions. Welkers performance somehow added intelligence to the character. He had plans, goals and respect from the deceptions.
Steve Blum voicing Starscream was also underrated you could definitely see he tried bringing a more modernized version of Christopher Charles Collins's G1 Starscream to the big screen.

Comparing Frank and Hugo's Megatron voices/performances is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are terrific in their own right. Frank is the OG classic Megatron and is so iconic, but I also like the demonic gutteral growl Hugo brought to his version, which fit with the more devilish design Megatron had in the live-action films. I've got nostalgia for Frank but also enjoy how genuinely terrifying and threatening Hugo is in the role. Both are interchangably excellent in the role.
Imagine Hugo’s Megatron voice sounding like the 07 movie but for the entire trilogy and somehow combing the same lines said by Welker in his TF Prime Megatron voice but with the same audio editing like 07 Megs. Then combing both Megatron voice lines to see how it would sound together. Idk y but I feel like it would sound cool and interesting af.

I think both are equally as good. Weaving gives off Megatron’s ruthlessness and lust for power while Welker gives off Megatron’s cold and deceptive personality

I think their voices fit their designs. Hugo's more barbaric and savage tone fits the more alien-like design of the first three movies, while Frank's more gentle yet manipulate tone fits the g1/knight style.

I find it amusing that it's not just Frank welker voicing Megatron, it's Frank welker replicating Hugo Weaving's interpretation of megatron.
With all respect to Hugo Weaving, it is Frank Welker all the way. Frank Welker gives Megatron the manipulative, duplicitous, and lawful-evil overtones that he had in the G1 comics. Hugo Weaving seems more suited to Galvatron - the crazy-wheeling, chaotic-evil Two-Face of the Transformers universe. The subtle, subversive evil versus the blatant, Russian-roulette evil.
Accurate. There's far more nuance to Welker, who obviously understood the character better.
Hugo did a far better job than I expected when I first heard he got cast, though, which was a pleasant surprise.
