Took me a minute. But he disassembles the doffer shaft. Then puts the spacers back on the shaft. Grinds through the wound up cotton. So it can be peeled off easily. Nice trick!!

There’s no real reason to align all the doffers like that,
I was adjusting a doffer one day and was thinkin , this doffer is taking a lot to adjust.
I looked down and found the doffer was aligned like their doin, and the spindles were positioned directly in the valleys of the doffer, it clean missed every one

I have another question. The cotton rolls you take out. How much do you get per roll.

There are grease items out there. So how many times a day will you grease it. Love this video

Really appreciate you going into the extra detail on that. Lot of stuff going on in a cotton picker and they are truly an engineering marvel. I work for Schaeffer in Alabama and this will be a great training and information video for my fellow reps that sell spindle clean and picker grease. Lots of stuff needing lube. Hope y’all have a productive crop this year and thanks again for the effort you put into these videos.

Yea.... Your video brought back a lot of painfull memories...... We ceased growing cotton about 5 years ago when we were offered 100 acres of established Tifton Coastal Bermuda Hayland....Bought necessary baling plus stationary rebaling equip, we convert 4x5 rounds into small squares for feed stores and TSC and call ins......We also do contract sprigging........Plans for coming year are to do some in the field baling and bundling (1840 MF baler and Bale Baron already here)

Great to watch, I work for a JD dealer in Australia 🇦🇺, I work a lot on these machines, you gave a pretty good explanation of how they work.

Those guys got a good business there. Geez that’s expensive to keep it up to par, tip top shape.

Excellent. I watched your other video too. This really explains a lot more about the spindles and maintenance. A lot of moving parts and close tolerances. Definitely an engineering marvel but like you said it’s like maintaining a helicopter.

Where can I get a moisture column jig and straightener from?

I will have to find out where they got it from. Thanks for watching!

    Hello Ryan,
    great video! Very informative.
The broken gear-nut made me think (minute 6:40). Are those only attached by the pin? Is the pin hollow? Could you tell me the reasons why the gear nuts de-attach from the shaft?
Thanks a lot and have a great Weekend.

Yes. Secured by roll pin. It doesn't happen often....just 2-3 a year if that. I think it is probably from the spindle becoming wrapper with cotton and hitting against the doffer. Thanks for watching!

Also over loading the spindle when adjusting doffers and moisture towers
