Polyurethane! Great videos, thank you for posting
The motor get bad in those tractors at 6 to 8000 hour's, john deere aint gone tell farmers that
Really nice coloration even that early in the season. You guys are making wonders.
I planted dry roast last year
Appreciate the hard work farmers in our area do.
Took me a minute. But he disassembles the doffer shaft. Then puts the spacers back on the shaft. Grinds through the wound up cotton. So it can be peeled off easily. Nice trick!!
It goes around to everyone i help a customer in sc he lost a cat 3406E i built 10. years ago then a 4020 engine and now 9986 cotton picker engine is hammering and incavhuge puff of smoke locked up. we will be doing an engine swap this week.
damn drivin it out of tbe field and load it ..
I have been helping my cousin (in NE GA) pick his cotton : he has a JD 9970 (4 row) since 2017. He picks, and I operate the module builder. My cousins and neighbors used to use IH (McCormick) 1- and 2-row pickers - those days are long gone. I remember helping my cousin work on his IH header spindles back during the early 1980’s.
Please give full information about John Deere 9970 basket picker display
I have another question. The cotton rolls you take out. How much do you get per roll.
There are grease items out there. So how many times a day will you grease it. Love this video
Start making video again pleaseeeeeeee
Is there 2 different varieties in this field
Hi Jenkins, my father is running a factory of manufacture this spindles. And I have some of them on my hand. Would you like a sample of 10 for free? If you could share a address with me.
Really glad to see you back!!!!!!
Glad to see you back!!!!!!!!!!
Where do you get your hardfacing blades? I've never seen them here in Australia
Hi we are harvesting our peanuts at the moment but they dont seem to invert so good. A lot still to the side or still on the bottom any ideas to why? Too much dirt?
There’s no real reason to align all the doffers like that, I was adjusting a doffer one day and was thinkin , this doffer is taking a lot to adjust. I looked down and found the doffer was aligned like their doin, and the spindles were positioned directly in the valleys of the doffer, it clean missed every one
Great to watch, I work for a JD dealer in Australia 🇦🇺, I work a lot on these machines, you gave a pretty good explanation of how they work.
I forgot to ask…What were the doffers made of before…um what’s that stuff called? Oh yeah, Polyurethane! I ask because I was watching a video of a one row IH cotton picker a guy restored and the whole cotton picker/stripper unit was very similar to modern ones. But I know they didn’t have…um…what’s that called? Polyurethane back then. Thank you and thanks for the video. I showed it to my 86 year old dad and he was delighted.
Excellent. I watched your other video too. This really explains a lot more about the spindles and maintenance. A lot of moving parts and close tolerances. Definitely an engineering marvel but like you said it’s like maintaining a helicopter.
My dad’s a retired farmer from Kansas (wheat, soybeans, corn) and we were talking about how cotton harvesters, especially how the spindles work. We mostly had it down but this video really answered a lot of questions we both had. (I thought the liquid helped remove the cotton, I was wrong) It’s quite a machine, very complex and I can see the level of maintenance you have to do. Running a combine harvesting wheat is a cake walk compared to this. Thanks for the video, it helped my understanding a lot.
Was that due to the timing train gear mesh issue?
Are u putting something in its engine that ur not supposed to?
Travis from south Texas. Just had exact same thing happen last Friday. Fortunately is was on our last few acres. Unfortunately it is going to cost me a ton. We had about 200 hours on new style fan drive. Replaced a fan belt and a few hours later bye bye engine. No fun. Any advice? Seems like Deere should help us out. Wonder how much of a known problem this is?
It’s a well known problem. When I posted these videos when we were going through it , I got lots of responses that other people had gone through the same thing. That was almost 2 years ago and I still frequently get messages like yours. It hasn’t been very long ago that I got a message stating the same thing. The new style drive failed and ruined the engine. There was one guy… I believe from Texas , that removed the variable rate drives and fabricated a direct drive on 3 pickers. He sent a video. It’s stressful knowing in the back of your mind that you are sitting on a ticking bomb. Good luck and holler if I can help.
I wish you would share more videos man I in joy watching your videos
"There's your problem. Anybody that has these sprayers knows about them" ..... I have a 4720. I'd say you got lucky. We usually don't get out of the road.
I havent grown cotton in 11 years until this year. I just bought a 7760 but it hasn't been delivered yet. I've never driven or ridden on a roll picker. I had no idea how to do anything with the baler section, and I did not know how to load the wrap. Thanks for the video. Nice to have the grease pump hyd ports on the machine. Had to use a tractor to load grease on the old pickers we used to run.
I worked at the co op in jay Florida Chris Casey
Hi Ryan from Australia, and thanks for the video, we have just had the same disaster happen to a CP690 which had the new style fan drive fitted less than 300 hours ago on a machine of less than 800 engine hours total. Was rebuilding the engine much cheaper than a new complete replacement engine and do JD do remanufactured ones still?
Wow. That doesn’t sound good. I was wondering if the new style fan drive would be any better after being run for some hours. The story I was told from someone who was very familiar with these machines in the beginning said that both fan drives were available at the time and the engineers picked the old style drive to move forward with. After they started having trouble with those drives they decided to try the new style drive that we are using now. I was a little worried that it may not be a true fix. To answer your other question… as far as I know you can still get factory reman engines. Thanks for watching.
I'm working on a engine swap right now on the same picker. And yeah I've seen fan drives cause that problem. I change them out a few times a year on pickers amd combines. Nice video
Enjoyed the video, any upcoming videos?
I Always enjoy the videos. I hope y’all will have some more farm content this year as well. Thanks
Hey there how are you doing are going to make some new videos?
Miss you guys buddy
This is an outstanding video. I’m a recent grad looking to get into this field.
We also plant peanut m and ms
Im out of Andalusia if yall need somebody to haul your equipment to the dealer...or deliver new equipment
I was curious to know about picking system of such machines and rightly its maintenance is similar to that of Helicopters.Great education ..Thank you so much
How many acres do the tractors work on?
I used to work for M&M stamping the little M on every piece and this video is true. 🙃
I'm 83 and grew up in Western TN picking cotton but not with a machine. I kind of miss the old ways. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you for this awesome video! I'm a content writer and needed some info on cotton picking for a John Deere Cotton picker and this made my research a whole lot easier. All the best from Cape Town, South Africa.
Really enjoyed both videos on cotton picker maintenance. This information has been most helpful as I may be performing maintenance and repair on a large fleet of pickers.
Yea.... Your video brought back a lot of painfull memories...... We ceased growing cotton about 5 years ago when we were offered 100 acres of established Tifton Coastal Bermuda Hayland....Bought necessary baling plus stationary rebaling equip, we convert 4x5 rounds into small squares for feed stores and TSC and call ins......We also do contract sprigging........Plans for coming year are to do some in the field baling and bundling (1840 MF baler and Bale Baron already here)
Whats up Jenkins. Molino Fl here!!
Did they cross thread those last two?
Thanks for a cute video and for growing all those peanuts!
