She can sing for sure, doesn't change the fact that pretty much the entire Eras tour that was sung live was autotuned th-cam.com/video/xMNYiDH-fDY/w-d-xo.html . And no, this is not hate, I love Taylor Swift, she's dope AF! Her songs are amazing, her commercial success almost unmatched, her stage presence and charisma off the charts. However it doesn't do her legacy any good when people are being ignorant and won't accept simple facts like that her live vocals on the Eras tour are either lip-synced or autotuned. Doesn't make her a bad singer, it just means that she utilizes a set of tools to make her shows the best that they can be. Like most other artists and shows today.

I’m sick of the people hating on her saying she doesn’t know how to sing! I agree she has a vocal coach so that she could perform better bcuz it had been awhile since she last toured and she needed the vocal stamina to perform 44 songs with like no breaks! She trained singing 44 songs running or jogging on a freaking treadmill for her fans! There are different types of voices and Taylor is a mezzo-soprano. There are other singers who are mezzo-soprano but it’s rare to ever hear them getting the hate Taylor gets!

her natural, comfortable range of singing voice is an Alto. She has the range to sing mezzo soprano notes, but those notes are not in her natural range and there's nothing wrong with that, it's not anything bad. I think she sings well. has she improved over time, yes. most singers do as the voice matures with age. if you're either using it regularly (vocal exercise) and/or doing extra work with vocal coaches, you're going to hear noticeable difference in the voice over time.

@@Jess-y7c Yes, her vocal is better now but as I said that before her tone from Speak Now tour is more suitable for the song when compare to the other. Vocally it weaker but musically it fitter. Speak Now run through my life with lot of meanings and we all know how weak was her voice in the past. Vocally, There are a lot of bad performances in the past 10-18 years but there are also have some really good vocal perfomance and more suitable for the song than now. We all know the emotions on Enchanted and we all know how magical is it. Personally, her sound in the Eras Tour makes me felt like that song is not about enchanting anymore, it was like we hold our hand and sing along with her memories about our experiences that we have had. I love that feeling too but from the point of view of the song, musically, her vocal right now (or in TET) dont have that (SNWT) magic sound from her throat to describe the feeling when we are Enchanted to meet someone who make us blushing all the way home. And this feeling is so, SO real when I listen to her performance from Speak Now world tour.

Like the type of routine that she would need to establish (e.g. the exercises you mentioned for her mouth muscles, speaking quietly before the concert, drills, etc). Or like the amount of times she would need to practice. That would be interesting!

She’s come a LONG way as a singer, but also things to consider are: she’s older now and her voice has matured and depended, she’s switched genres so she doesn’t need that nasally twang anymore, and a lot of these songs aren’t fresh wounds with raw emotion anymore like they were back then. Lots of anger and shaky voice etc because she was feeling it deeply.

From what I read about Swift is that she had a thin voice at first. It was working with a professional coach, like you!, that helped her redirect her singing and make her able to project and sing much better and louder.
I did read that her grandmother was a professional opera singer. So it is surprising that Taylor Swift singing was so thin and nasal.
This is why there are coaches like yourself. To help singers learn to sing properly
But her early work is most likely why the 'Taylor Swift can't sing' meme has stuck with her for years even to today with her improvements and singing really well.

Could some of the earlier country twang fight against some of the vocal "openness" in order to achieve the accent while singing? I know there are fabulous country singers, but I wonder if it's a bit more of a challenge to do both? There are a lot of singers out there who seemingly "drop their accent" when they sing - is it because singing with a certain level of openness sort of forces it to fall off?
I think she phased the accent around the Red era (give or take) and then switched to pop, but she also used to amp it up in songs quite a bit in the early days and I wonder if that could also have added an extra challenge? Either way - it is sooooo crazy to see these transformations!

I did actually know her accent was fake, but it technically didn't affect the question and I was worried about someone challenging that instead of discussing the vocal stuff. A lot of singers from diverse backgrounds don't sing with an accent (or "their" accent), and I am thinking vocal coaching helps with technique... And without sounding too crass (too late), the throat and mouth perhaps have no accent 😂

That's not what she means by "ownership". In this context it means "taking control" of the song, i.e. singing with confidence.

Actually Taylor’s voice was shaking at 4:58 and she was so tense was because of how hard singing that song was. She was hurt and in pain, that’s song was very emotional for her especially after everything she’s been through that lead to all too well. but in the newer one she’s healed and happier.

I would really love to see your reaction to the Taylor/ Stevie nicks performance from way back when. They did a mash up of their songs and it was very VERY critiqued at the time. It’s what created the line “grumbling on about how I can’t sing” in mean, it was that talked about. There’s a lot of talk about Taylor trying to match with Stevie but their ranges don’t compliment each other, so she sounds worse? Idk. So a knowledgable ear on this (plus any clips from modern day performances), would be really cool!! ❤

I think she's also learned to sing outside of her accent as well. My mouth is pretty closed when I talk because of my accent and it used to be that when I sang, I'd keep it closed, too. I think Taylor's grown out of her accent as well as matured 😊

Earlier taylor singing is more like sepreate the vocal and breath, but now she is combine with them. Right breath, and more space, means less push for the vocal cord, is good for the vocal cord, the bad position, will damge the vocal cord, when you're young, you not gonna fell it, as long as you grown, you will find out.

Granted I’m not American but while she’s improved vocally incredibly I am curious about you comparing the different way she says notes now, would some of the choices not also be the country accent being heavier then than it is now? I would have assumed that would also have been mentioned

I ll I’ve this! There was talent whe she was a country little girl and talent now. I hear that she was a little rich girl made by her parents but to better yourself, to evolve to her level now, to put a 3 hr concert and work at it to make it happen. It takes talent and hard work.
