  • Hey!
    It's finally here!! Our first cover song that is entirely played in 31 TET!
    In our last episode ( • If Stevie Wonder were ... ) we asked ourselves what it would sound like if Stevie Wonder were a microtonal composer.
    So this is our rendition of his classic "Overjoyed". We hope it does the original justice while being fresh and microtonally innovative at the same time. And who knows, maybe Stevie will join the xenharmonic community after all? How cool would that be!
    We also would like to say a gigantic thanks to Tina Burova (Violin) and Peter Scharonow (Bass & Beatboxing) for their awesome commitment and their musicality. You flarping rock!
    And a huge thanks to all our Patrons on Patreon for helping to make these videos possible!
    Join them and support this channel:

    Refreshing to hear micro tonal harmony that isn't violently awful

    And it works great.

    This is soooooo trippy..... but unlike any other sort of trippyness I have ever encountered. Watched this a couple times now, and I'm just smiling to myself and thinking.... WTF just happened! Both beautiful and bizarre.... both totally tasteful and totally outrageous.

    • @elkminister4444
      @elkminister4444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is a flarp an interval or accidental?

    • @HearBetweenTheLines
      @HearBetweenTheLines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@elkminister4444 Flarp is the monosyllabic word we came up with for "half-flat". So it is an accidental. In 31 TET the difference between let's say a C and a C flarp would be a fifth tone (about 40 cents). Hope this helps :)

    wow, that's amazing! guys, seems like you are deep into this microtonal stuff. I don't know if you'll like the idea. But I just found that there are no vocal warmups for this EDO on the youtube. Maybe you can record a small video with warmup with 31 tones for vocalists. You'll be the first, or one of the first and people will enjoy it.
    Good luck!

    just discovered this mindblowing channel. any advice or related links on how to get started on a strings instrument? particular the doublebass. how do you wrap your head around that. are you thinking of where normal hand positions would be and then shift from there into flarpy territory? Or throw out all regular fret thinking, except somehow purified or 'just-ified' (hehe) 3rd, 5th, 7th and so on?

    I think the reason Stevie Wonder doesn’t make microtonal music is that most keyboard solutions don’t work for the blind. Like he can play piano because he can feel the black notes. Those don’t exist on something like the lumatone.

    • @HearBetweenTheLines
      @HearBetweenTheLines  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting thought! I agree, the Lumatone could have variable (maybe clip-on?) tactile markers to let the performer feel where their hands are :) Anyway, I'd love for Stevie to mess around with microtones, it'd have to be exciting what he comes up with!

      Ouff, I don't think so... The step sizes in 31 are: 5 - 5 - 4 - 4- 4 - 3 - 3 - 3 , though
