Love it. The-Race is seriously turning into clickbait. Just weeks ago Ferrari was the frontrunner, and Mercedes was in "Panic" mode. RedBull had weaknesses. They're all over the place.
Isn't this why the term 'shock' is meaningful here. Before the race, not sure anyone would have put Merc to have the pace we saw in the race even after Hamilton's p3 performance. generally the top 4 are converging and that's a good thing. Lets hope it's not a false dawn as the comments here suggest.
the other thing that bothers me is how they calculate that pace break down, why not do it for each team member rather than just the entire team? obviously the Merc had pace, the track was never fully dry & in the last couple years Mercedes has always gotten a boost in those kinds of conditions, plus even before it went to dry tyres George was being caught by Max and Lando, had there not been that second rain period I don't think George would've been as close to winning as he actually was. plus given how Merc themselves have been handling the media after Montreal it feels like to me anyway that they don't actually understand why they were as fast as they were as much as they'd want to, sure it's a car they can now fight with but what are they fighting for? it doesn't look like they're gonna be up there with McLaren and RedBull, maybe they're keeping pace to Ferrari but it's tough to tell given how much wet weather obfuscates a car and driver's pace.

Merc set the fastest times in FP3, in qualifying and indeed in the race... what is there to be "exaggerated"? The stopwatch never lies, according to one Torger Christian Wolff. ;) (The first two practice sessions didn't yield much useful information but even there they were among the fastest)
Even if it was a one race outlier due to conditions, it was a great race to watch. F1 is most interesting when multiple teams have a real chance at winning each week.
I have literally been saying this the whole time, everyone was going insane. Mercedes from the beginning were saying they weren't gonna be at the front but have a good platform to build on. Not being at the front was calculated to be 2nd or 3rd fastest but McLaren and Ferrari were way closer than anyone expected, even themselves. Their pace before obviously made sense cause they are 2 years behind on development from Red Bull, and a year behind the other two. This is still the same team (mostly) that won 8 championships in a row through 3 substantial regulation changes.
8:54 typo: "Occam's razor" ... We know what it is; also: to be distinguished from "Ocon's razor" which is searching for ways to rebuild Esteban's and his teammate's cars with the smallest possible set of parts.
The Mercs have the same issues Ferrari had last year. Poor downforce that cooks tyres and therefore can only perform in cold weather. See Spa last year. It will probably be behind the top 3 next week
The RACE fell down just like Mercedes did in 2022. I started following you guys due to exceptional journalism and insights, but now it is more like a video on any rumours/thing that has no base or proof. Stop milking F1 for views
If mercedes continues like this would max actually consider going to mercedes? I know it is only one race but it's clear red bull does not have an advantage to the rest anymore. A couple months ago I would have never considered it but now I don't know
Mercedes have had a decent car all season. They have done well here because they didn’t have time to mess up the setup and destroy the practice pace they had
1:43 I think the Red Bull has less wing than the Mercedes this race. That's why they were faster in the straights and slower in the slow speed corners.
I think the circuit just suited us better, mate. You shouldn't expect AMG Petronas to replicate this again. Maybe towards the very end of the season. The wing upgrade definitely helped, though.
It’s a single race… it’s not gonna last. You know why? Because just a few weeks ago the drivers were reporting to media that they still do not understand the car and have poor correlation with the sim. Combining that with the fact that they were surprised the upgrades made as much of a difference as they did in Canada only proves they are still quite clueless. It was a one time opportunity for them, just like Brazil 2022, but they didn’t take it.
Progress has been made, I think RB and MV still win their respective championships. However the completion from Mclaren and MB will make for more entertaining races and some races wins. Ferrari if they can get consistent can also be a spoiler.
I don't know what you guys were analyzing. Here is what I think happened: Mercedes predominantly heats up it's tyres faster and burns em' up faster. In Canada, the temperatures were cold and damp, which played into the hands of the Mercedes Car. The proof of which is that when the track heated up marginally Russel lost pace and Max and especially Land and Oscar was phenomenally quick, they all breezed past the Mercedes and Russel tried as hard as he could but only got the pace back when they pitted for the second time for Mediums and Lewis for Hards. While on a track which marginally heated Max was belting in fastest laps after fastest laps, only after Mercedes went it for a second pitstop that both their drivers could belt in fastest laps. For Ferrari it was the opposite, as they're easier on their tyres it is took them way longer to heat up their tyres but by then both Charles and Sainz were done for the day. So, Mercedes did pick up 3rd and 4th and could only scalp up Oscar for under dry conditions Mclarens were not that quick, but in changing conditions they were untouchable.
I don't get this whole Lewis had a better race narrative. He was bolted behind Nando for half an hour. George made 2 mistakes, Max and Lando also made a mistake. It's a dice roll in the wet, you could end up like Carlos Sainz, or like Max you can get saved by the safety car. George got impatient overtaking Piastri that was his big error. Beyond that he was always fighting and his last overtake on Lewis was top class. He might have had the better tyre, but it was on the wet side of the track. Showing he'd learnt from his over-zealous dive on Piastri.
Mercedes narrow window seems to have been a trend for a number of seasons now and it has been a few seasons now to show a wider window and more compatibility with more tracks is and has been the key to success. The era of high budgets and a very specific setup and car and data you nail per race all but making one car for every race is long gone. Mercedes has been slow to get this.
Not as simple as Occam's razor. I think that if I were Mercedes I would develop the car to favour GR's driving stile more than LH's, because he's going to be at the team in 2025, which will be a year with little development on the 2025 car as teams switch focus to the Formula changes in 2026.
W13 was the fastest car in the end of 2022. They start bad and suddenly become faster. If this time they made the magic change soon enough they might be able to win something. Or it will be like 2022 and 2023.
so the W14 would've been great with Max Verstappen (rear instability but incredibly strong and consistent front end grip--both aero and mechanical, porpoising was gone from the W13). The W15 was understeering but small setup changes caused it to be like the W14 but still not ideal (so with the setup changes, again, Verstappen would've thrived).
I've seen this movie before... Come on, Mercedes has been strong all season in cooler conditions and then when conditions were hotter in quali and race they were nowhere. This weekend conditions remained rather cold hence their performance. There was also something favouring Mercedes engines. Have you counted how many Mercedes engines made Q3?
Nah I don't think they're "back", the interchangeable conditions helped them a lot. Just think back to Lewis finishing 2nd in the sprint in China, also in interchangeable conditions.
Yet another Mercedes and 2 Briton drivers story. Should change name to The UK Race Drivers Only channel. So many other stories you ignored, like Ferrari failures, Alpines Ocon issues, and even Haas bold X- Wet gamble. But let’s focus on The British drivers. Again.
Interesting to know where Russell would have placed in quali without that perfect tow too. Ultimately it doesn't matter.. where you finish is where you finish.. but with such fine margins in q3.. you're quickly hero to zero
Did the low temperatures in Montreal played any part, Barcelona on the other hand will reveal true picture, temperatures will be higher and high speed corners will prove much better tests.
I must admit as soon as Hamilton claimed, "The performance of my car goes away from me over the weekend" I could just see the BS drama and headlines claiming sabotage. It's just been a while since we've heard Sir Louis making such bizarre claims.
One week, they're saying that the slower you go, the less the car wants to turn. The next, the car almost wins in a track where there's only slow-ish long corners. I mean...
“Should have won Canadian Grand Prix…..”. These statements get tiring. OK. So certain cars can challenge RB on certain tracks in certain conditions. Sometimes it might be Merc (under cold, wet, and bumpy tracks), Ferrari (in tight and bumpy tracks ) and McLaren in bumpy more open tracks. The problem is, RB is at least pretty good at even the worst track and conditions for them. Yes, others are catching RB, which makes it much more fun to watch. The problem is, just when everyone gets close enough on a consistent basis, they will change the rules again.
The journos love to jump to conclusions after one race. McLaren was the big thing after Miami, Ferrari after Monaco, and now it's Mercedes. Canada was a mixed race and it threw up mixed results.
Funny saying without even thinking that Russel was quickest. Go back to the Q3 recap....and notice that he was exactly as quick as Max....but made the time earlier which provided him pole. But that does NOT make him quikest....it only provides pole to him. I admit...it seldon happens that the time for pole was the same as the second car... Next. Canada was not a race which gives any guarantee about ho upgrades and other things work. Haas proved that by passing a lot of cars at the start (on full wets). Being quicker even than the frontrunners. All mercedes showed us that they had a great setup in their car for these conditions....and Ferrari the opposite.
"it makes little sense for mercedes to slow Hamilton." Over the last two years when Lewis wasn't testing setups he was consistently beating Russell in qualifying and destroying him in the race 2H 2022 and 2023. Russell constantly makes mistakes when the pressure rises, and having lost their best driver to Ferrari Mercedes needs to prove to it's shareholders that Russell can be the number 1 driver going forward. Whether there is sabotage or not, it is not out of this world to believe they would do this, when there is clear reason for doing so. Lewis commented this weekend saying his tire blankets were consistently too cool in qualifying which prevented him from properly switching on his tires losing him time. This makes more sense than Lewis suddenly being slow at one of his best tracks in his career.
1 race. 1 No. Thinking RB had another one of their worst weekend and... still Won. And thinking merc had one of their best and scrapped out 3... no merc ain't even close
One race in the rain, to say Merc is back is just feeding false hope to Team LH. Max still won and there’s still a large gap between him and the other championship contenders because none of them are anywhere close to being consistent enough to challenge. This was also a rain race that was always going to lead to some outlying results which we saw in Canada.
The knee-jerk reactions after every race from the media are funny. Just like Red Bull/Max isn't on the way down (as evidenced by Monaco), Merc hasn't suddenly turned the corner. At least, not using Canada as evidence. One race does not a trend make.
Keywords: cooler weather. The Mercs become considerably better when it's quite cool. Same goes vice versa for Ferrari: they become more at ease once the temps are higher (f.e. Monaco).
Wait, I thought all the F1 teams have had to use the same gearing and have for quite a while. Did that change? How would the Mercedes have shorter gearing as this video claims?

Do you have a source on that? just curious because there might be other factors
Merc set the fastest times in FP3, in qualifying and indeed in the race... what is there to be "exaggerated"? The stopwatch never lies, according to one Torger Christian Wolff. ;)
(The first two practice sessions didn't yield much useful information but even there they were among the fastest)
that's not what Marco said !
Are we forgetting the Mclaren consistency? Hehe
Every opinion in f1 this season is super premature and rezhcig at straws.
Even if it was a one race outlier due to conditions, it was a great race to watch. F1 is most interesting when multiple teams have a real chance at winning each week.
Read the ‘headline’ didn’t watch the video. Get a grip ‘the race’
Watch it.
Because of the low temperatures
LH looked bummed in interviews. Do you think he is now starting to regret leaving MB?
They aren't, it was all down to a chaotic race.
Honestly idk if that’s true…as much as I want it to be
Wet track, wet setups. Pretty much an early call to refer them as “frontrunners”
It's one race Linda, calm down
I felt that mclaren was dominant in race. Somehow lando got 15s in a few laps. Only safety cars didnt play in landos hands
Dude that was one qualifying…
Bro it was one cold race and thats it, Mercedes ain't back lmao
8:54 typo: "Occam's razor" ... We know what it is; also: to be distinguished from "Ocon's razor" which is searching for ways to rebuild Esteban's and his teammate's cars with the smallest possible set of parts.
p.s. that's very funny, for those of you who are new to humour
Ocon’s razor 😂😂😂😂
Please a video on ferrari and how everything went wrong
Guaranteed video a few weeks from now "What has happened to Mercedes after their mid-season upswing??"
We have to wait until 10 races and it will determine what teams did exceed, it is too early to see if Merc did improve
The Mercs have the same issues Ferrari had last year. Poor downforce that cooks tyres and therefore can only perform in cold weather. See Spa last year. It will probably be behind the top 3 next week
I’m interested to see how they do on more normal tracks
1:05 I'm sure they haven't had that many DNFs right?
The RACE fell down just like Mercedes did in 2022.
I started following you guys due to exceptional journalism and insights, but now it is more like a video on any rumours/thing that has no base or proof. Stop milking F1 for views
If mercedes continues like this would max actually consider going to mercedes? I know it is only one race but it's clear red bull does not have an advantage to the rest anymore. A couple months ago I would have never considered it but now I don't know
WHOSE HERE AFTER THE AUSTRIAN GP👇
Mercedes have had a decent car all season. They have done well here because they didn’t have time to mess up the setup and destroy the practice pace they had
You need to relook at your understanding of Occam's Razor. It doesn't mean what you think it does.
1:43 I think the Red Bull has less wing than the Mercedes this race. That's why they were faster in the straights and slower in the slow speed corners.
What’s the music used in this video?
George is so prone to errors when he has a chance like Singapore and now Canada
Bro it was one race.... Merc isn't a "Frontrunner again"
The same will be said in Singapore, but I don't think they will be able to from now on fight for podiums and victories consistantly, yet.
I would point to it more being the colder, lower grip track conditions.
Progress has been made, I think RB and MV still win their respective championships. However the completion from Mclaren and MB will make for more entertaining races and some races wins. Ferrari if they can get consistent can also be a spoiler.
I don't know what you guys were analyzing. Here is what I think happened:
Mercedes predominantly heats up it's tyres faster and burns em' up faster.
Who’s the author of the illustrations? They look very nice! I tried to read the signature but I wasn’t able to.
Found out through LinkedIn. The illustrator’s name is Rosario Giuliana.
Lol they’re not
I don't get this whole Lewis had a better race narrative.
In Spain, Mercedes will be back to the usual 5-7 finishing.
Three better cars didn’t finish the race, that’s why…
Not as simple as Occam's razor. I think that if I were Mercedes I would develop the car to favour GR's driving stile more than LH's, because he's going to be at the team in 2025, which will be a year with little development on the 2025 car as teams switch focus to the Formula changes in 2026.
W13 was the fastest car in the end of 2022. They start bad and suddenly become faster. If this time they made the magic change soon enough they might be able to win something. Or it will be like 2022 and 2023.
Merc should hire sainz and get rid of Russell
so the W14 would've been great with Max Verstappen (rear instability but incredibly strong and consistent front end grip--both aero and mechanical, porpoising was gone from the W13). The W15 was understeering but small setup changes caused it to be like the W14 but still not ideal (so with the setup changes, again, Verstappen would've thrived).
I’m surprised you guys haven’t put out a video how Ricciardo is back again.
What a channel …
I remember Saturday how the RB cars were back and Sunday the race happened where both RB cars finished behind Lance Stroll. 😂😂😂
Did you guys watch the race???

The Race fell off 😭❤
The journos love to jump to conclusions after one race.
If the bookie's lines on whether this is a false dawn or not, I'd go with -105 (yes)
